Alice Munro and the Anatomy of the Short Story
Free Download Oriana Palusci, "Alice Munro and the Anatomy of the Short Story"
English | ISBN: 1527503534 | 2017 | 203 pages | PDF | 764 KB
Alice Munro has devoted her entire career to the short story form in her fourteen collections, having won the Nobel Prize in Literature as master of the contemporary short story. This edited volume investigates her art as a storyteller, the processes she performs on the contemporary short story genre in her creative anatomical theatre. Divided into five topical sections, it is a collection of scholarly chapters which offer textual insights into a single story, compare two or more texts, or casts a more panoramic view on Munros literary production, embracing stories from her first collection Dance of the Happy Shades to her last published Dear Life. Through different critical approaches that range from post-structuralism to cultural studies, from linguistics and rhetorical analyses to translation studies, the authors insist on the concept that no fixed patterns prevail in her short stories, as Munro has constantly developed, challenged, and revised existing modes of generic configuration, while discussing the fluidity, the elusiveness, the indeterminacy, the ambiguity of her superb writing.

Algebraic Aspects of Cryptography
Free Download Algebraic Aspects of Cryptography by Neal Koblitz
English | PDF | 1998 | 214 Pages | ISBN : 3540634460 | 20.2 MB
This book is intended as a text for a course on cryptography with emphasis on algebraic methods. It is written so as to be accessible to graduate or advanced undergraduate students, as well as to scientists in other fields. The first three chapters form a self-contained introduction to basic concepts and techniques. Here my approach is intuitive and informal. For example, the treatment of computational complexity in Chapter 2, while lacking formalistic rigor, emphasizes the aspects of the subject that are most important in cryptography. Chapters 4-6 and the Appendix contain material that for the most part has not previously appeared in textbook form. A novel feature is the inclusion of three types of cryptography - "hidden monomial" systems, combinatorial-algebraic sys tems, and hyperelliptic systems - that are at an early stage of development. It is too soon to know which, if any, of these cryptosystems will ultimately be of practical use. But in the rapidly growing field of cryptography it is worthwhile to continually explore new one-way constructions coming from different areas of mathematics. Perhaps some of the readers will contribute to the research that still needs to be done. This book is designed not as a comprehensive reference work, but rather as a selective textbook. The many exercises (with answers at the back of the book) make it suitable for use in a math or computer science course or in a program of independent study.

Alcohol and Alcohol–related Diseases
Free Download Alcohol and Alcohol-related Diseases by Sebastian Mueller, Markus Heilig
English | PDF (True) | 2023 | 1577 Pages | ISBN : 303132482X | 63.6 MB
Alcohol is one of the major risk factors for negative health outcomes worldwide. It accounts for more than 60 alcohol-related diseases, ranging from addiction, through liver cirrhosis, to cancer. Collectively, these conditions account for mortality and morbidity that make alcohol use one of the leading preventable causes of disability adjusted life-years (DALYs) lost globally. In this book, an international faculty covers all aspects of alcohol-related disorders, ranging from addiction/alcohol use disorders (AUD) to alcohol-related diseases of other organs such as liver, heart or cancer. A special focus is to reach out to primary care physicians who are in the front line of this major health problem. The book also provides an update for addiction specialists, as well as specialists in internal medicine, gastroenterology and hepatology. The book is divided into sections that include epidemiology, alcohol use disorders and addiction, alcohol-related liver disease, alcoholic hepatitis, primary care and interdisciplinary approaches and other alcohol-related diseases. Besides current diagnostic measures and treatment strategies, the book deals with the many underlying molecular and genetic mechanisms of alcohol toxicity. Novel insights include prospective data on all-cause mortality and the emerging major role of alcohol-mediated hemolysis and enhanced red blood cell turnover. The book also aims at guiding policy makers to handle the topic of alcohol in our society more responsibly.

Aircraft Fatigue Management
Free Download Aircraft Fatigue Management by Lorrie Molent
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 (2024 Edition) | 69 Pages | ISBN : 9819974674 | 12.1 MB
Fatigue occurs under cyclic loading and can significantly degrade the operational capability and safety of metallic aircraft components and structures. This book provides summaries of some metallic aircraft structural integrity issues, innovative but established examples of maintaining operational capability-airworthiness, and assessments of safe in-service fatigue lives. These topics are based on a through-life fatigue management philosophy that ensures safe and continued operation, including during life extensions that are almost inevitably required. This philosophy is underpinned by observations of the behaviour of fatigue cracks in actual structures subjected to realistic service loading conditions. The book includes topics like aircraft design requirements, individual aircraft fatigue loads monitoring, airframe fatigue testing, sources of fatigue-nucleating discontinuities, and prediction of fatigue crack growth from these discontinuities. All these aspects contribute to discussing methods of assuring the structural integrity and operational capability of realistically cracked structures. The book also discusses the exponential behaviour of lead or dominant cracks-those leading to first failure-and the practical significance of differences between fatigue fracture topographies produced under constant amplitude and variable amplitude loading. The book can be a valuable reference for researchers and professionals interested in aircraft fatigue management and allied fields.

Agricultural Heritage Systems in Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South America
Free Download Agricultural Heritage Systems in Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South America by Mauro Agnoletti , Antonio Santoro , Beatrice Fiore , Francesco Piras , Federica Romano , Alessandra Bazzurro
English | EPUB (True) | 2023 | 380 Pages | ISBN : 3031448804 | 86.7 MB
Agriculture is often considered as one of the main threats to ecosystems. Unsustainable farming practices often result in habitat loss, inefficient use of water, soil degradation, pollution, genetic erosion, among other negative impacts on human life, including hunger, low food quality, reduced access to food resources, as well as the abandonment of rural areas. Nevertheless, when agriculture is practiced in a sustainable way, it can contribute to the preservation of many habitats, to the protection of watersheds, to the preservation and improvement of soil health.
