Claus Oetke Truth Paradoxes, Meaning, and Interpretation, Two Essays
Free Download Wolfgang Kunne, "Claus Oetke: Truth Paradoxes, Meaning, and Interpretation, Two Essays "
English | ISBN: 3700188803 | 2022 | 224 pages | PDF | 1446 KB
The two essays in this book are united by a common philosophical concern. While the first is dedicated to a problem in systematic philosophy, the second mainly deals with the interpretation of a specific issue articulated in a certain Indian philosophical tradition. In the first essay Oetke focusses on a complex of questions that occupied philosophy ever since a Cretan asserted that no Cretan tells the truth. Since the discussion of the family of truth paradoxes was very intensive in 20th century logic and analytical philosophy, one would not have expected essentially new insights into the source and the range of those paradoxes, and yet this is exactly what this essay offers by emphasizing the need to distinguish different types of meaning. The second essay addresses issues in the hermeneutics of classical texts. It takes its start from Oetke's final (unpublished) comment on a series of articles in the Journal of Indian Philosophy that deal with the interpretation of the sadvitiyaprayoga ("proof-formulation that entails a counterpart"). Oetke generalizes the point of his critical observations by showing the relevance of acknowledging diverse types of both meaning and interpretation in the methodology of research not only in the history of Indian philosophy. His essay is a substantial contribution to the contemporary literature of methodology in the history of philosophy in general.

Classroom Detracking in the US Examples for School Leadership
Free Download Classroom Detracking in the US: Examples for School Leadership by Margaret Thornton
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 158 Pages | ISBN : 3031464435 | 5 MB
This book offers a comprehensive examination of how school leaders can institute detracking in their school with research-based best practices. Since the 1980s, researchers and educators have called for detracking as an alternative to the common practice of seperating students into classes by supposed achievement levels. In its most basic form, detracking places students in the same classroom regardless of perceived previous achievement. In this book, Thornton focuses on four high-quality detracking programs across the US to provide a roadmap of best practices for school leaders. Focusing on schools in diverse suburban and urban areas, this book will be beneficial to a wide variety of school leaders as well as school leadership researchers. With the effects of the pandemic still felt in schools and the heated debates at school boards across the country, leaders and researchers both need a path forward for equity-focused work. This book helps to provide way finders on that path while also speaking to the need to travel the path in the first place.

Classical Myth in Four Films of Alfred Hitchcock
Free Download Mark William Padilla, "Classical Myth in Four Films of Alfred Hitchcock"
English | ISBN: 1498529151 | 2016 | 336 pages | EPUB | 20 MB
Classical Myth in Four Films of Alfred Hitchcock presents an original study of Alfred Hitchcock by considering how his classics-informed London upbringing marks some of his films. The Catholic and Irish-English Hitchcock (1899-1980) was born to a mercantile family and attended a Jesuit college preparatory, whose curriculum featured Latin and classical humanities. An important expression of Edwardian culture at-large was an appreciation for classical ideas, texts, images, and myth. Mark Padilla traces the ways that Hitchcock's films convey mythical themes, patterns, and symbols, though they do not overtly reference them. Hitchcock was a modernist who used myth in unconscious ways as he sought to tell effective stories in the film medium. This book treats four representative films, each from a different decade of his early career. The first two movies were produced in London: The Farmer's Wife (1928) and The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934); the second two in Hollywood: Rebecca (1940) and Strangers on a Train (1951). In close readings of these movies, Padilla discusses myths and literary texts such as the Judgment of Paris, The Homeric Hymn to Demeter, Aristophanes's Frogs, Apuleius's tale "Cupid and Psyche," Homer's Odyssey, and The Homeric Hymn to Hermes. Additionally, many Olympian deities and heroes have archetypal resonances in the films in question. Padilla also presents a new reading of Hitchcock's circumstances as he entered film work in 1920 and theorizes why and how the films may be viewed as an expression of the classical tradition and of classical reception.

This topical book examines the debates around contemporary conflicts between liberal democracies and increasingly vociferous special interest groups within society. It analyses the way a new sense of difference and the growth of multi-culturalism are straining modern notions of citizenship and rights, looking in particular at how ethnic conflicts in Eastern Europe have escalated to international tragedies, while in the US and Canada, race, ethnicity and radical feminism are at the heart of a social conflict which challenges national identity and the unity of the state.

Chronotropics Caribbean Women Writing Spacetime
Free Download Chronotropics: Caribbean Women Writing Spacetime by Odile Ferly, Tegan Zimmerman
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 318 Pages | ISBN : 3031321103 | 7.5 MB
This book deconstructs androcentric approaches to spacetime inherited from western modernity through its theoretical frame of the chronotropics. It sheds light on the literary acts of archival disruption, radical remapping, and epistemic marronnage by twenty-first-century Caribbean women writers to restore a connection to spacetime, expanding it within and beyond the region. Arguing that the chronotropics points to a vocation for social justice and collective healing, this pan-Caribbean volume returns to autochthonous ontologies and epistemologies to propose a poetics and politics of the chronotropics that is anticolonial, gender inclusive, pluralistic, and non-anthropocentric.

Chronotopes and Migration
Free Download Farzad Karimzad, "Chronotopes and Migration "
English | ISBN: 1138549401 | 2021 | 144 pages | EPUB, PDF | 1139 KB + 5 MB
In Chronotopes and Migration: Language, Social Imagination, and Behavior, Farzad Karimzad and Lydia Catedral investigate migrants' polycentric identities, imaginations, ideologies, and orientations to home and host countries through the notion of chronotope. The book focuses on the authors' ethnographically situated research with two migrant populations - Iranians and Uzbeks in the United States - to highlight the institutional constraints and individual subjectivities involved in transnational mobility. The authors provide a model for how the notion of cultural chronotope can be applied to the study of language and migration at multiple scale levels, and they showcase a coherent picture of the ways in which chronotopes organize various aspects of migrant life.
