Transnational Lampedusa Representing Migration in Italy and Beyond
Free Download Transnational Lampedusa: Representing Migration in Italy and Beyond by Jacopo Colombini
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 293 Pages | ISBN : 3031457331 | 20.9 MB
This book examines how Lampedusa, Italy's southernmost island, has become a transnational symbol representing migration to Europe from the Global South. It analyses how three very different associations have used the name "Lampedusa" as a means of restoring a sense of subjectivity or agency to migrants themselves. Jacopo Colombini argues that the work of the Archivio delle Memorie Migranti (Rome), the self-organised refugee group Lampedusa in Hamburg, and the Lampedusa-based Collettivo Askavusa offers an alternative to the stereotypical, often racially connoted, public discussion of migrant presence in Italy and Europe. He also demonstrates, however, that the marginalisation of migrant and refugee voices in the public discourse is also partially and unavoidably reproduced in the cultural projects that wish to restore their agency.

Free Download Alan Marcus, "Transnational Geographers in the United States: Navigating Autobiogeographies in a Global Age"
English | ISBN: 1498509487 | 2016 | 146 pages | EPUB | 1347 KB
This volume was written by eight transnational geographers. These narratives comprise a collection of essays as a way to map personal trajectories and experiences which examine the concept of place at the micro-level. Eight transnational geographers convey their professional and personal identities in a global age. By using an approach called, autobiogeography, these narratives will be of interest to geographers and other social science and humanities scholars as well as of interest to the general public. This volume explores the concepts of transnationalism, borders, fragmentation, movement, displacement, space, place and "home." Drawing from various national, ethnic, and cultural perspectives, the authors write about various important adjustments within contemporary global trends which in turn, reflect ever-changing ways to look at geography, migration processes, and transnationalism. Like other migrants who have left their home, they all left "something" behind.

Transnational Generations in the Arab Gulf States and Beyond
Free Download Transnational Generations in the Arab Gulf States and Beyond by Kyoko Matsukawa, Akiko Watanabe, Zahra R. Babar
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 256 Pages | ISBN : 9819951828 | 15.9 MB
This book examines the recent migration phenomenon in the Arab Gulf states for work and residence. It sheds light on the transnationality of diverse groups of migrants from different generations, and unpacks how migrants' multiple senses of belonging, orientations and adaptive strategies have shaped contemporary migration in the Gulf region. In turn, the analysis presented here shows how the Arab Gulf states' citizenship and educational policies affect second-generation migrants in particular. Through a series of fine-grained ethnographic case studies, the authors demonstrate the ways in which these second-generation migrants construct their identities in relation to their putative 'home' country in the Gulf as well as their complex relationship to their parents' countries of origin. This is what underpins the deeply transnational character of their lives, choices and notions of belonging. While migration scholars often situate these groups as 'temporary', this does not in fact capture the reality of temporariness for the migrants themselves, their children or their dependants. The result is a complex and ongoing construction of identity that shapes the way of life for millions of migrants. Relevant to scholars of migration and international studies, particularly focused on the Middle East, Transnational Generations in the Arab Gulf States and Beyond is also of interest to social scientists researching student mobility in higher education, intergenerational families, identity politics and globalisation.

Translating and Transmediating Children's Literature (2024)
Free Download Translating and Transmediating Children's Literature by Anna Kérchy
English | EPUB | 2020 | 352 Pages | ISBN : 3030525260 | 96.6 MB
From Struwwelpeter to Peter Rabbit, from Alice to Bilbo―this collection of essays shows how the classics of children's literature have been transformed across languages, genres, and diverse media forms. This book argues that translation regularly involves transmediation―the telling of a story across media and vice versa―and that transmediation is a specific form of translation. Beyond the classic examples, the book also takes the reader on a worldwide tour, and examines, among other things, the role of Soviet science fiction in North Korea, the ethical uses of Lego Star Wars in a Brazilian context, and the history of Latin translation in children's literature. Bringing together scholars from more than a dozen countries and language backgrounds, these cross-disciplinary essays focus on regularly overlooked transmediation practices and terminology, such as book cover art, trans-sensory storytelling, écart, enfreakment, foreignizing domestication, and intra-cultural transformation.

Transcendence in Heidegger's Early Thought Toward Being as Event
Free Download Erik Kuravsky, "Transcendence in Heidegger's Early Thought: Toward Being as Event"
English | ISBN: 3031412907 | 2023 | 330 pages | EPUB, PDF | 533 KB + 6 MB
This book demonstrates how Heidegger's departure from ontotheology occurs initially as a preparation for the concept of Dasein's transcendence and subsequently as its explicit development and overcoming. Dasein's transcendence is revealed as the foundation for the subsequent concept of Beyng as an Event, which stands in contrast to all ontotheological perspectives that assert a singular a priori foundation of the universe attributed to beings, God, consciousness, or even an independent "process" of Being that doesn't rely on Dasein. The book illustrates that transcendence is not an attribute of human consciousness or a connection to something external to it. Instead, as a "primal act," transcendence paves the way for a non-representational dwelling in the essence of a historically unfolding Being, a contemplative recollection of the truth of Beyng. Throughout the book, there is a gradual progression towards an understanding of transcendence as an active engagement, wherein we "do" transcendence. This process involves a reconstruction of the ontological significance of action, emphasizing its performative embeddedness in existence and its inseparability from Beyng.
