The Mythology of the Animal Farm in Children's Literature Over the Fence
Free Download Stacy E. Hoult-Saros, "The Mythology of the Animal Farm in Children's Literature: Over the Fence "
English | ISBN: 1498519776 | 2016 | 192 pages | EPUB | 977 KB
The Mythology of the Animal Farm in Children's Literature: Over the Fence analyzes the ways in which myths about farmed animals' lives are perpetuated in children's materials. Specifically, this book investigates the use of five recurring thematic devices in about eighty books for young children published during the past five decades. The close readings of texts and images draw on a wide range of fields, including animal theory, psychoanalytic and Marxian literary criticism, child development theory, histories of farming and domestication, and postcolonial theory. In spite of the underlying seriousness of the project, the material lends itself to humorous and not overly heavy-handed explications that provide insight into the complex workings of a literary genre based on the covering up of real animal lives.

The Mystery of Emotions Seeking a Theory of What We Feel
Free Download Hinshelwood, "The Mystery of Emotions: Seeking a Theory of What We Feel"
English | ISBN: 1800131747 | 2023 | 240 pages | PDF | 3 MB
Psychoanalysis is, above all, the science of the emotions but, as yet, there is no single accepted theory of affects. Instead, there are many, all of them too limited, based, as they are, on idiosyncratic introspection. R. D. Hinshelwood presents an extensive scoping of the prominent theories from the philosophy of mind and academic psychology alongside a review of psychoanalytic ideas based on instinct theory or object relations. This wide review of divergent theories from various disciplines helps to mitigate variation and identify commonalities. From this scoping exercise, Hinshelwood creates a form of qualitative meta-analysis which enables the most common dimensions to come to the fore - namely, 113 features of affects form a more general theory with four dimensions. This more systematic view offers an affective 'space' as a model for thinking about the nature of affects, their origins, and their consequences. At the same time, Hinshelwood retains the personal. He starts with the memory which initiated his quest to understand how much we are rooted in the experience of our feelings and includes a chapter documenting his own idiosyncrasies to bring his own bias to the fore. In this way, the book preserves the especially personal and intimate quality of its universal topic.

The Modern Philosopher, Letters to Her Son and Verses on the Siege of Gibraltar, by Elizabeth Craven
Free Download Julia Gasper, "The Modern Philosopher, Letters to Her Son and Verses on the Siege of Gibraltar, by Elizabeth Craven"
English | ISBN: 1443895040 | 2017 | 138 pages | PDF | 541 KB
This book offers a modern edition of three fascinating and important works by Elizabeth Craven (1750-1828), an English author who lived for many years on the Continent. Craven is mainly remembered for her scandalous personal life, but deserves more serious attention. She was influenced by Enlightenment ideas and took a broad interest in the events of her time. The Modern Philosopher (1790) is a satire on the egalitarian theories of the French Revolution. The intellectual Longinius advocates equality in theory as perfectly logical, but is dismayed when his household put it into practice. Its love-Description has a happy ending. Written originally in French, it is here translated for the first time and presented in parallel text.

The Miami Times and the Fight for Equality Race, Sport, and the Black Press, 1948–1958
Free Download Yanela G. McLeod, "The Miami Times and the Fight for Equality: Race, Sport, and the Black Press, 1948-1958 "
English | ISBN: 149857663X | 2018 | 198 pages | EPUB | 23 MB
This book helps inject the Miami Times into the historical narrative of the Civil Rights Movement in Florida by highlighting its role in Rice v Arnold, a 1949 lawsuit filed by black recreational golfers in Miami to oppose segregation on the city's public golf course. Founded in 1923 by Bahamian-born H.E.S. Reeves who ran the newspaper with his son Garth C. Reeves Sr., the newspaper financially and editorially supported efforts to desegregate Miami schools, beaches, residential communities, public transportation systems and sports complexes. Its support of the Rice v Arnold legal challenge is but one example that demonstrates how the newspaper, as a conduit of social change, worked with other Miami community leaders to improve conditions for the city's black population.

The Meaning of Mourning Perspectives on Death, Loss, and Grief
Free Download Mikolaj Slawkowski-Rode, "The Meaning of Mourning: Perspectives on Death, Loss, and Grief"
English | ISBN: 1666908924 | 2023 | 264 pages | EPUB, PDF | 1166 KB + 3 MB
Grief is a universal human response to death and loss. Mourning is an equally universally observable practice that enables the bereaved to express their grief and come to terms with the reality of loss. Yet, despite their prevalence, there is no unified understanding of the nature and meaning of grief and mourning. The Meaning of Mourning: Perspectives on Death, Loss, and Grief brings together fifteen essays from diverse disciplines addressing the topics of death, grief, and mourning. The collection moves from general questions concerning the putative badness of death and the meaning of loss through the phenomenology and psychology of grief, to personal and cultural aspects of mourning. Contributors examine topics such as theodicy and grief, reproductive loss, mourning as a form of recognition of value, the roots of grief in early childhood, grief in COVID-times, hope, phenomenology of loss, public commemoration and mourning rituals, mourning for a devastated culture, the Necropolis of Glasgow, and the "art of outliving." Edited by Mikołaj Sławkowski-Rode, the volume provides a survey of the rich topography of methodologies, problems, approaches, and disciplines that are involved in the study of issues surrounding loss and our responses to it and guides the reader through a spectrum of perspectives, highlighting the connections and discontinuities between them.

The Meaning and Redemptive–Historical Significance of John 2022
Free Download Adrian P. Rosen, "The Meaning and Redemptive-Historical Significance of John 20:22 "
English | ISBN: 1433192705 | 2022 | 342 pages | EPUB, PDF | 2 MB + 36 MB
This monograph endeavors to clarify the nature and significance of the impartation of the Holy Spirit in John 20:22. Previous scholarship has produced a confusingly diverse and contradictory array of competing interpretations of this much-debated verse. The present work, which will prove immensely valuable to every scholar, pastor, and serious student interested in this question, carefully walks the reader through the interpretive issues. The book offers a more extensive survey of the history of interpretation of John 20:22 than that found in other works on Johannine pneumatology. It includes extensive exegetical analysis of the related motifs of the glorification of Jesus and eternal life as well as every passage in the Gospel of John mentioning the Spirit. The impartation of the Spirit on Resurrection Day is here clarified in terms of the nature of the gift itself, how this relates to Pentecost, and how this impartation constitutes a momentous step forward in the outworking of God's unfolding plan in the history of redemption.

The Marketing of Works
Free Download Sergiy E. Pogodayev, "The Marketing of Works"
English | ISBN: 1527571246 | 2021 | 470 pages | PDF | 4 MB
This book is the first to describe a new type of marketing: namely, the marketing of works. This is the line of marketing activity that provides search and receiving orders to meet the effective demand of customers for the manufacture, repair, modernization, re\-equipment, or liquidation of the customers facilities with a change in their market value and without transferring ownership to these objects from the customer to the executor of works. The book will show the reader that works are a type of production activity that changes the market value of the objects being processed as opposed to the services, and provides definitions of concepts at the end of each chapter. It will serve to provide marketing theorists with many opportunities for research that will enable them to make their own scientific discoveries and acquire new scientific results.
