Great Satan's rage American negativity and rapmetal in the age of supercapitalism
Free Download Scott Wilson, "Great Satan's rage: American negativity and rap/metal in the age of supercapitalism"
English | ISBN: 071909741X | 2015 | 208 pages | PDF | 9 MB
Newly available in paperback, this book looks at how rap and metal have been highly engaged with America's role in the world, supercapitalism and their own role within it. This has especially been the case when genres - hitherto clearly identified as indelibly 'black' or 'white' forms of music - have crossed over as an effect of cross-racial forms of identification and desire, marketing strategy, political engagement, opportunism and experimentation. It is how examples of these forms have negotiated, contested, raged against, survived, exploited, simulated and performed 'Satan's rage' that is the subject of this book.

Granularity An Ontological Inquiry Into Justice and Holistic Education
Free Download Şevket Benhür Oral, "Granularity: An Ontological Inquiry Into Justice and Holistic Education"
English | ISBN: 303141537X | 2023 | 490 pages | EPUB, PDF | 945 KB + 15 MB
This book presents an original exploration of philosophical questions pertaining to the ways we grasp the Absolute by bringing together the Buddhist notion of interpermeation of all phenomena into contemporary strains of thought in continental philosophy. This text introduces an ontological concept, granularity, deploying it to probe questions concerning the intersection of ontology, ethics, and education. A wide range of issues in metaphysics are covered―including being, nothingness, unity, plurality, truth, change, transformation, subjectivity, contradiction, coherence, potentiality―from the perspective of thinkers such as Hegel, Heidegger, Badiou, Meillassoux, Malabou, Žižek, and Harman. The text deploys granularity in arguing for an ethics of unconditional hospitality within education. This volume is intended for students and researchers working in the areas of philosophy of education, philosophy of religion, and continental philosophy.

Nearly two-thirds provide some kind of childcare and a recent study from Oxford University found that regular contact with grandparents helps create happier children and well-adjusted adolescents. The Grandad Manual will follow on from the success of the Dad Manual. Along with practical projects and games, it will also contain care and welfare sections - covering those unfamiliar areas, such as monitoring internet and digital time and following the wishes of the parents, which may not mirror those of the grandparents. Whether you're going to be a grandparent for the first time or if you are about to look after your grandchildren for a week or two - the Grandad Manual will guide you through a variety of ways to keep them entertained, happy and safe.

Grammaticalization from a Typological Perspective
Free Download Heiko Narrog, "Grammaticalization from a Typological Perspective "
English | ISBN: 019879584X | 2019 | 496 pages | PDF | 5 MB
This volume explores the way in which grammaticalization processes - whereby lexical words eventually become markers of grammatical categories - converge and differ across various types of language. While grammaticalization at its core is a unidirectional phenomenon, in which the same pathways of change are replicated across languages, certain language types and language areas have distinct preferences with respect to what they grammaticalize and how. Previous work has principally addressed this question with specific reference to languages of Southeast and East Asia that do not seem to grammaticalize paradigms of categories in the same manner as Indo-European languages, or form extensive grammaticalization chains. This volume takes a broader approach and proceeds systematically area by area: specialists in the field address the processes of grammaticalization in languages of Africa, Europe, Asia and the Pacific, and the Americas, and in creole languages. The studies reveal a number of unique pathways of grammaticalization in each language area, as well as identifying the universal shared features of the phenomenon.

Governmental Automated Decision–Making and Human Rights Reconciling Law and Intelligent Systems
Free Download Governmental Automated Decision-Making and Human Rights: Reconciling Law and Intelligent Systems by Stefan Schäferling
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 312 Pages | ISBN : 3031481240 | 6.8 MB
With the growing capabilities of artificial intelligence, governments are integrating AI technologies into administrative and even judicial decision-making, aiding and in some cases even replacing human decision-makers. Predictive policing, automated benefits administration, and automated risk assessment in criminal sentencing are but a few prominent examples of a general trend. While the turn towards governmental automated decision-making promises to reduce the impact of human biases and produce efficiency gains, reducing the human element in governmental decision-making also entails significant risks. This book analyses these risks through a comparative constitutional law and human rights lens, examining US law, German law, and international human rights law. It also highlights the structural challenges that automation poses for legal systems built on the assumption of exclusively human decision-making. Special attention is paid to the question whether existing law can adequately address the lack of transparency in governmental automated decision-making, its discriminatory processes and outcomes, as well as its fundamental challenge to human agency. Building on that analysis, it proposes a path towards securing the values of human dignity and agency at the heart of democratic societies and the rule of law in an increasingly automated world. This book will be of interest to researchers and scholars focusing on the evolving relationship of law and technology as well as human rights scholars. Further, it represents a valuable contribution to the debate on the regulation of artificial intelligence and the role human rights can play in that process.

Government Responses to the COVID–19 Pandemic Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Free Download Government Responses to the COVID-19 Pandemic: Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Olga Shvetsova
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 263 Pages | ISBN : 3031308433 | 14.3 MB
This book examines how governments around the world responded to the health emergency created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Before vaccines became available, non-medical interventions were the main means to protect the public. Non-medical interventions were put in place by governments as public health policies. In every nation, politicians and governments faced a choice situation, and worldwide, they made different choices. Public health policies came at a price, in economic, social, and ultimately electoral costs to the political incumbents. The book discusses differences in governments' policy efforts to mitigate the virus spread. The authors conduct in-depth analysis of country-cases from Africa, North and South America, Asia, and Europe. They also offer small-n- comparative analyses as well as report global patterns and trends of governments' responsiveness to the medical emergency. It will appeal to all those interested in public policy, health policy and governance.
