Contemporary Dance Choreography and Spectatorship Embodied Emotion
Free Download Lucía Piquero Álvarez, "Contemporary Dance Choreography and Spectatorship: Embodied Emotion"
English | ISBN: 3031449614 | 2024 | 257 pages | EPUB, PDF | 5 MB + 5 MB
This book offers an approach which unites choreographic and spectatorial perspectives, and argues for dance itself―its materials, its structures―as a medium of emotional communication. Contemporary dance often seems to contend with issues of understanding, regularly being "read" in "languages" which alienate it. Even if emotion seems a significant part of people's engagement with dance, its workings are often surrounded by an air of mysticism. Engaging with these issues, this study investigates the experience of emotion in Euro-American contemporary dance theatre. It questions its dependence on the artist's personal emotions, and the assumption that it is mediated by representational meaning. Instead, this book proposes that the emotional import of dance emerges from an interplay between perceptual properties and symbolic elements in an embodied affective cognitive experience. This experience includes the background of the spectator as well as the context of work, choreographer, performer(s) and other creative agents.

Contemplating DisAbility in Schools and Society A Life in Education
Free Download David J. Connor, "Contemplating Dis/Ability in Schools and Society: A Life in Education "
English | ISBN: 1498568211 | 2018 | 320 pages | EPUB | 705 KB
This book chronicles the professional life of a career-long, inclusive educator in New York City through eight different stages in special and general education. Developing a new approach to research as part of qualitative methodology, David J. Connor merges the academic genre of autoethnography with memoir to create a narrative that engages the reader through stories of personal experiences within the professional world that politicized him as an educator. After each chapter's narrative, a systematic analytic commentary follows that focuses on: teaching and learning in schools and universities; the influence of educational laws; specific models of disability and how influence educators and educational researchers; and educational structures and systems-including their impact on social, political, and cultural experiences of people with disabilities.

Rather than seeking to debunk conspiracy theories as the work of fringe groups and cranks, Donatella Di Cesare develops an original account that portrays conspiracy as the spectre of a shattered community.

Conservation, Sustainability, and Environmental Justice in India
Free Download Alok Gupta, "Conservation, Sustainability, and Environmental Justice in India "
English | ISBN: 1793614547 | 2020 | 296 pages | PDF | 3 MB
Conservation, Sustainability, and Environmental Justice in India highlights the environmental challenges that India faces, largely due to high population and limited natural resources, and discusses the gap between the intent of environmental policies and the actualization of those policies. Contributors posit that the protection of the environment poses a fundamental challenge to the nation's desire to industrialize and develop more quickly, arguing that the conservation of biodiversity, protection of wetlands, prevention of environmental pollution, and promotion of ecological balance are all crucial in enabling sustainable development. This book poses the question of how large a role the judiciary system should play in the protection of the environment as a vital body that passes policies to promote conservation and sustainable development.
