Critical Pedagogy and Cognition An Introduction to a Postformal Educational Psychology
Free Download Critical Pedagogy and Cognition: An Introduction to a Postformal Educational Psychology By Curry Stephenson Malott (auth.)
2011 | 196 Pages | ISBN: 9400706294 | PDF | 2 MB
This book simultaneously contributes to the fields of critical pedagogy and educational psychology in new and innovative ways by demonstrating how critical pedagogy, postformal psychology, and Enlightenment science, seemingly separate and distinct disciplines, are actually part of the same larger, contextualized, complex whole from the inner most developmentally-fixed biological context of human faculties to the perpetually shifting, socially and politically constructed context of individual schema and human civilization. The text's uniqueness stems from its bold attempt to connect the postformal critical constructivist/pedagogy work of Joe Kincheloe and others to Western science through a shared, although previously misunderstood, critique and rejection of crude forms of social control, which the psychologists call behaviorism and Western scientists identify as mechanical philosophy. This book therefore argues that critical pedagogy- which includes, among others, anarchist, Marxist, feminist, Indigenous (globally conceived), Afro-Caribbean/American, and postmodern traditions-and critical/constructivist educational psychology have much to gain by engaging previously rejected work in critical solidarity, that is, without compromising one's values or democratic commitments. The goal of this book is therefore to contribute to this vision of developing a more transgressive and transformational educational psychology.

Creating a Common Polity Religion, Economy, and Politics in the Making of the Greek Koinon
Free Download Creating a Common Polity: Religion, Economy, and Politics in the Making of the Greek Koinon by Emily Mackil
English | April 25, 2015 | ISBN: 0520272501 | 624 pages | MOBI | 4.11 Mb
In the ancient Greece of Pericles and Plato, the polis, or city-state, reigned supreme, but by the time of Alexander, nearly half of the mainland Greek city-states had surrendered part of their autonomy to join the larger political entities called koina. In the first book in fifty years to tackle the rise of these so-called Greek federal states, Emily Mackil charts a complex, fascinating map of how shared religious practices and long-standing economic interactions faciliated political cooperation and the emergence of a new kind of state. Mackil provides a detailed historical narrative spanning five centuries to contextualize her analyses, which focus on the three best-attested areas of mainland Greece―Boiotia, Achaia, and Aitolia. The analysis is supported by a dossier of Greek inscriptions, each text accompanied by an English translation and commentary.

Created in the West Indies Caribbean Perspectives on V.S. Naipaul
Free Download Created in the West Indies: Caribbean Perspectives on V.S. Naipaul By Jennifer Rahim; Barbara Lalla
2011 | 234 Pages | ISBN: 9766374120 | PDF | 10 MB
"Created in the West Indies: Caribbean Perspectives on V.S. Naipaul updates and furthers the debates on the life and work of an internationally acclaimed writer, Nobel laureate and native son of Trinidad and Tobago. The book draws together the proceedings of a series of outstanding public lectures and an academic symposium that featured a distinguished cadre of Caribbean scholars who, during 2007, participated in a year-long schedule of activities initiated by the University of the West Indies, St Augustine campus, to honour the life and work of this highly accomplished 'enigma' of Caribbean letters. The essays in this collection are organised into three sections that represent a compression of the multifaceted range of V.S. Naipaul's creative concerns, thematic explorations, even obsessions, and philosophical persuasions. The singular power of these contributions is their ability to push at the borders of Naipaul scholarship, cutting new pathways for considering this most intriguing creative mind and offering fresh perspectives on the now familiar themes of postcolonial identity and nationalism, the fiction of history and history of fiction, home and belonging in a world characterised by flux, movement and cultural contact. Controversy has always companioned Naipaul's career. Not surprisingly, some of the contributions are unrelentingly honest in their exposé of Naipaul for his trademark impatience with the very societies that created his unique sensibility and his propensity for self-contradiction.
