A Time Traveller's Guide to South Africa in 2030
Free Download A Time Traveller's Guide to South Africa in 2030 By Frans Cronje
2017 | 224 Pages | ISBN: 0624080587 | EPUB | 2 MB
What will South Africa look like in 2030? And how will the next fifteen years unfold? South Africa has undergone dramatic change in recent years. Political tensions are on the up, economic performance has weakened, and more and more South Africans are taking their frustrations to the streets. What does this mean for our future? Will a spark ignite the powder keg? In this book, leading scenario planner Frans Cronje analyses the latest trends and presents four brand new scenarios for the country's future. Will South Africa take the socialist route and allow the state to seize all wealth and land? Will the status quo prevail, and the wealth divide widen while crime soars? Do we face a pernicious erosion of our democratic rights and freedoms? Or will a rainbow rise unexpectedly? Cronje's new set of scenarios is a sober compass for South Africa's highly unpredictable future.

A Textbook of Belief Dynamics Solutions to exercises
Free Download A Textbook of Belief Dynamics: Solutions to exercises By Sven Ove Hansson (auth.)
1999 | 65 Pages | ISBN: 0792353293 | PDF | 3 MB
The mid-1980s saw the discovery of logical tools that make it possible to model changes in belief and knowledge in entirely new ways. These logical tools turned out to be applicable to both human beliefs and to the contents of databases. Philosophers, logicians, and computer scientists have contributed to making this interdisciplinary field one of the most exciting in the cognitive scientists - and one that is expanding rapidly. This, the first textbook in the new area, contains both discursive chapters with a minimum of formalism and formal chapters in which proofs and proof methods are presented. Using different selections from the formal sections, according to the author's detailed advice, allows the book to be used at all levels of university education. A supplementary volume contains solutions to the 210 exercises. The volume's unique, comprehensive coverage means that it can also be used by specialists in the field of belief dynamics and related areas, such as non-monotonic reasoning and knowledge representation.

A Synopsis of Elementary Results in Pure and Applied Mathematics
Free Download A Synopsis of Elementary Results in Pure and Applied Mathematics By George Shoobridge Carr
2013 | 298 Pages | ISBN: 1139248545 | PDF | 12 MB
When George Shoobridge Carr (1837-1914) wrote his Synopsis of Elementary Results he intended it as an aid to students preparing for degree-level examinations such as the Cambridge Mathematical Tripos, for which he provided private tuition. He would have been startled to see the two volumes, first published in 1880 and 1886 respectively, reissued more than a century later. Notably, in 1903 the work fell into the hands of the Indian prodigy Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887-1920) and greatly influenced his mathematical education. It is the interaction between a methodical teaching aid and the soaring spirit of a self-taught genius which gives this reissue its interest. Volume 1, presented here in its 1886 printing, contains sections on mathematical tables, algebra, the theory of equations, plane trigonometry, spherical trigonometry, elementary geometry and geometrical conics.

A Quiet Revolution The First Palestinian Intifada and Nonviolent Resistance
Free Download A Quiet Revolution: The First Palestinian Intifada and Nonviolent Resistance By Mary Elizabeth King
2007 | 488 Pages | ISBN: 1560258020 | PDF | 38 MB
In A Quiet Revolution, renowned civil rights activist Mary Elizabeth King questions the prevailing wisdom that the first Palestinian Intifada was defined by violence. She argues that initially, the uprising was characterized by a massive nonviolent social mobilization, rooted in popular committees often steered by women. These committees adopted strategies that began to lead to political results -- among them the beginnings of a negotiated settlement. King traces the tragic movement away from peaceful protest following the killing of four Palestinian laborers in Gaza, and charts the PLOs increasing contempt for nonviolent struggle. She details the complicity of the media in this escalation of violence -- TV crews would not cover peaceful protests, but Palestinian boys throwing rocks at Israeli soldiers would attract foreign cameras. King draws upon the history of non-violent movements and argues that only through nonviolent strategies can a negotiated peace be achieved with Israel. King believes that the residual knowledge of the power of nonviolent resistance from the first Intifada will provide the bedrock upon which to build this eventual, lasting peace.
