Charles Wheeler Witness to the Twentieth Century A Life in News
Free Download Charles Wheeler: Witness to the Twentieth Century: A Life in News by Shirin Wheeler
English | 9 Nov. 2023 | ISBN: 1786581752 | True EPUB | 416 pages | 1.6 MB
Charles Wheeler, the BBC's longest-serving foreign correspondent, was one of Britain's greatest news reporters. For more than four decades, he reported for radio and television from most of the world's trouble spots. Present at many of the key episodes of the twentieth century, he had - as a BBC manager noted after the shooting of George Wallace, Presidential candidate and Governor of Alabama, on 15 May 1972, 'a knack of being in the right place at the right time'. It was typical of Charles that he ran towards the sound of the gunshot while the crowd was running in the opposite direction.

Character, Liberty, and Law Kantian Essays in Theory and Practice
Free Download Character, Liberty, and Law: Kantian Essays in Theory and Practice By Jeffrie G. Murphy (auth.)
1998 | 242 Pages | ISBN: 9048151104 | PDF | 6 MB
Jeffrie G. Murphy's third collection of essays further pursues the topics of punishment and retribution that were explored in his two previous collections: Retribution, Justice and Therapy and RetributionReconsidered. Murphy now explores these topics in the light of reflections on issues that are normally associated with religion: forgiveness, mercy, and repentance. He also explores the general issue of theory and practice and discusses a variety of topics in applied ethics - e.g., freedom of artistic expression, the morality of gambling, and the value of forgiveness in psychological counseling. As always, his perspective may be described as Kantian; and, indeed, this collection contains the first extended piece of Kant scholarship that he has done in years: a long essay on Kant on theory and practice.

Cellular Automata Transforms
Free Download Cellular Automata Transforms: Theory and Applications in Multimedia Compression, Encryption, and Modeling by Olu Lafe
English | PDF | 2000 | 180 Pages | ISBN : 0792378571 | 12.6 MB
Cellular Automata Transforms describes a new approach to using the dynamical system, popularly known as cellular automata (CA), as a tool for conducting transforms on data. Cellular automata have generated a great deal of interest since the early 1960s when John Conway created the `Game of Life'. This book takes a more serious look at CA by describing methods by which information building blocks, called basis functions (or bases), can be generated from the evolving states. These information blocks can then be used to construct any data. A typical dynamical system such as CA tend to involve an infinite possibilities of rules that define the inherent elements, neighborhood size, shape, number of states, and modes of association, etc. To be able to build these building blocks an elegant method had to be developed to address a large subset of these rules. A new formula, which allows for the definition a large subset of possible rules, is described in the book. The robustness of this formula allows searching of the CA rule space in order to develop applications for multimedia compression, data encryption and process modeling.
