The New Housekeeper's Manual
Free Download Catharine E. Beecher, "The New Housekeeper's Manual"
English | 2013 | ISBN: 144943942X | EPUB | pages: 616 | 3.4 mb
Catharine Esther Beecher was one of the most influential social reformers of her time, and she practically invented the science of home economics. Beecher did not support women's suffrage, believing that a woman's domain was home and duty to family and that through this work, as opposed to active political involvement, women could influence society with feminine values. She actively promoted education, specifically for women, as well as home economics for housewives. Beecher was a prolific writer and among other works wrote Miss Beecher's Domestic Receipt-Book, and with her sister Harriet Beecher Stowe, The American Woman's Home. Harriet Beecher Stowe was an American abolitionist and author, a national celebrity in her day. Her novel Uncle Tom's Cabin depicted life under slavery for African Americans, using the powerful symbols of home and kitchen to expose the immorality of slavery. The novel reached millions as a novel and play, influencing the abolitionist cause in America and Britain and energizing anti-slavery forces in the American North while provoking widespread anger in the South. She wrote more than 20 books, including novels, three travel memoirs, and collections of articles and letters. Although Stowe agreed with her sister on the role of education for women and the worth and dignity of women's labor, she disagreed with Catharine on the extent to which women should engage in politics, and she approved of women's suffrage.

The Last Lincoln Conspirator John Surratt's Flight from the Gallows
Free Download Andrew C. A. Jampoler, "The Last Lincoln Conspirator: John Surratt's Flight from the Gallows"
English | 2008 | ISBN: 1591144078, 1591144086 | EPUB | pages: 288 | 2.0 mb
Despite all that has been written about the April 1865 assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, the story of John Surratt-the only conspirator who got away-remains untold and largely unknown. The capture and shooting of John Wilkes Booth twelve days after he shot Lincoln is a well-known and well-covered story. The fate of the eight other accomplices of Booth has also been widely written about. Four, including Surratt's mother, Mary, were convicted and hanged, and four were jailed. John Surratt alone managed to evade capture for twenty months and escape punishment once he was put on trial. In this tale of adventure and mystery, Andrew Jampoler tells what happened to that last conspirator, who after Booth's death became the most wanted man in America.

The Indigenous Paleolithic of the Western Hemisphere
Free Download The Indigenous Paleolithic of the Western Hemisphere by Paulette F. C. Steeves
English | July 1, 2021 | ISBN: 1496202171, 1496234707 | True EPUB | 326 pages | 1.7 MB
The Indigenous Paleolithic of the Western Hemisphere is a reclaimed history of the deep past of Indigenous people in North and South America during the Paleolithic. Paulette F. C. Steeves mines evidence from archaeology sites and Paleolithic environments, landscapes, and mammalian and human migrations to make the case that people have been in the Western Hemisphere not only just prior to Clovis sites (10,200 years ago) but for more than 60,000 years, and likely more than 100,000 years.
