Free Download State Failure, Power Expansion, and Balance of Power in the Middle East: The Struggle Over Failed States by Aso M. Ali English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 288 Pages | ISBN : 3031446321 | 5 MB This book examines the strategies of regional powers in the Middle East regarding their response to cases of state failure in the region, thus connecting the theoretical concepts of statehood, state failure, and revisionist and pro-status quo interventionist behavior. Through a detailed comparative analysis of five case studies of failed states occurring in the region during 1960-2010s -Yemen (1962-1970), Lebanon (1975-1989), Iraq (2003-2020), Yemen (2004-2020), and Syria (2011-2020) - the author employs the conceptual theory of balance of power to analyze the behavior of six regional powers in the Middle East: Egypt, Iran, Israel, Syria (pre-2011), Saudi Arabia, and Turkey toward each one of those cases. The book proposes that when states become failed states, regional powers with revisionist strategies expand into them, which in turn induce status quo regional powers to react by imposing balancing action, and that this power struggle turns failed states into battlegrounds for regional power (im)balances. This book offers empirical and theoretical insights into regional politics of the Middle East over the past six decades, contributes to international policy and security studies scholarship from a Middle East regional perspective, and draws attention to the importance of analyzing the destabilizing and historical consequences of state failures for contemporary contexts. It is that voice that has spoken with urgent meaning for author Audrienne Roberts Womack. She did not meet her great-great grandfather Anthony Dangerfield Sr., a visionary freedman who commenced the evolution of the Dangerfield/Roberts lineage into well-educated, prosperous citizens of the United States, but it is his inspiration that started this book. Anthony Sr.'s lack of education motivated him in wanting his children to become educated, which led him to build a school on his property, to harness his family's combined intelligence for progress, and perhaps had a vision of what the family is now and how Audrienne Womack knows it. His children and his descendants will most certainly know how to appreciate his vision through this book. It is also a well-written one that will put it among the ranks of outstanding family histories that help define significant portions of the American experience. At first, like many young women her age, Womack could not recognize the importance and significance of her family history. It was her father, Horace Molvin Roberts Sr., who constantly reminded her, embedded in her memory, at least, the fact that on her may very well rest the hopes that their family history would not be forgotten. This defiance on her part had led to the ban on the Bengali original of this book by the Left Front in West Bengal as well as the Government of Bangladesh in 2003. While the West Bengal government lifted the injunction after the ban was struck down by the Calcutta High Court in 2005, Nasrin was eventually driven out of Kolkata and forced to expunge passages from the book, besides facing a four-million-dollar defamation lawsuit. Bold and evocative, Split: A Life opens a window to the experiences and works of one of the bravest writers of our times.
