Hamilcar and Hannibal The History of the Carthaginian Generals Who Brought Rome to Its Knees [Audiobook]
Free Download Charles River Editors, Michelle Humphries (Narrator), "Hamilcar and Hannibal: The History of the Carthaginian Generals Who Brought Rome to Its Knees"
English | ISBN: 9798868600982 | 2024 | M4B@64 kbps | ~02:54:00 | 85 MB
One overlooked figure in the Punic Wars is Hamilcar Barca, who is now best remembered for being Hannibal's father. However, before Hannibal marched out of Spain, it was Hamilcar who had positioned forces there, and he was already a significant historical figure in his own right. Indeed, had it not been for his death, his legacy likely would have been more important than that of his illustrious son, who is now remembered as one of history's greatest generals.
In the history of war, only a select few men always make the list of greatest generals. Napoleon. Caesar. Alexander. They are always joined by Hannibal, who has the distinction of being the only man who nearly brought Rome to its knees before its decline almost 700 years later. Rome never suffered a more horrifying defeat in its history than at Cannae, and indeed, Hannibal nearly rewrote the course of Western history during the Second Punic War. Even today there remains great debate on just how he accomplished his masterful invasion of Italy across the Alps. Since his army included war elephants, historians still argue over exactly where and how he crossed over 2,000 years after he managed that incredible feat.
Although the Romans gained the upper hand in the wake of the First Punic War, Hannibal brought the Romans to their knees for over a decade during the Second Punic War. While military historians are still amazed that he was able to maintain his army in Italy near Rome for nearly 15 years, scholars are still puzzled over some of his decisions, including why he never attempted to march on Rome in the first place. Hannibal will always be listed among history's greatest generals, and his military campaign in Italy during the Second Punic War will always be studied, but part of the aura and mystique surrounding the Carthaginian legend is that there is still a lot of mystery.

Grunwald and Orsha The History and Legacy of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth's Most Decisive Battles [Audiobook]
Free Download Charles River Editors, Jim Walsh (Narrator), "Grunwald and Orsha: The History and Legacy of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth's Most Decisive Battles"

Like other secretive groups, the mystery surrounding the Teutonic Knights has helped their legacy endure. While some conspiracy theorists attempt to tie the group to other alleged secret societies like the Illuminati, other groups have tried to assert connections with the Teutonic Knights to bolster their own credentials. Who they were and what they had in their possession continue to be a source of great intrigue even among non-historical circles.
While the military orders are now often tied to religion or conspiracy theories, they did once wield great power and influence in Europe, and their actions had consequences centuries after they had reached their peak. This was made clear in the wake of a major battle fought between German and Russian forces from August 26-30, 1914 during the First World War. It occurred in Masuria, a region of marshes, woodland, and numerous lakes in northern Poland, almost 400,000 men were involved, and it was a decisive victory for the Germans, who annihilated the Russian army. The Germans named the battle after Tannenberg (Polish Stebark), and the battle, though widely fought over 100 miles, did indeed encompass the village, but there was a historical reason for assigning the name to the battle. On July 15, 1410, Tannenberg was the site of another decisive battle between the army of the Germanic Teutonic Order and that of Poland-Lithuania, a battle now commonly referred to as the Battle of Grunwald (after another nearby village).
In 1514, Orsha was a much smaller town, home to a population of no more than 5,000 as part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, but on September 8 of that year, the normally quiet and unpretentious town was thrust into the world's gaze when over 100,000 troops engaged in one of the 16th century's biggest battles outside the town walls. The battle pitted the forces of the King of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania against the Grand Duchy of Moscow.

"Grow Rich While You Sleep" by Ben Sweetland is a motivational and self-help book that delves into the power of the subconscious mind in achieving personal wealth and success. Sweetland, a well-known psychologist and authority on success and personal development, outlines principles and techniques that aim to harness the untapped potential of the subconscious mind, particularly during sleep.
The book is structured around the concept that financial success is not solely the result of hard work, education, or luck, but rather a mindset that can be cultivated. Sweetland argues that the subconscious mind plays a crucial role in shaping our beliefs, habits, and attitudes towards money and success. He suggests that by programming the subconscious mind with positive beliefs and success-oriented thoughts before sleep, individuals can influence their waking hours with more productive behaviors and attitudes towards wealth creation.
"Grow Rich While You Sleep" covers various topics including the psychology of wealth, the importance of positive thinking, the power of visualization, and the establishment of prosperity-conscious habits. The book provides practical steps and exercises to train the subconscious mind, such as affirmations, visualization techniques, and the development of a positive mental attitude. Sweetland emphasizes that these practices, when done consistently, can lead to significant improvements in one's financial status and overall quality of life.

Fighting for Jerusalem The History of the Most Important Battles and Sieges for Control of World's Holiest City [Audiobook]

Narrator: Bill Caufield

When Israel captured East Jerusalem during the Six Day War in 1967, it established Jewish control over the city for the first time in nearly 2,000 years, and in many ways it brought a story full circle, as Jerusalem has witnessed some of history's most important battles over the past 3,000 years. Over 2,500 years before the Six Day War, the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II oversaw the expansion of the Neo-Babylonian Empire during the 7th and 6th centuries BCE, which placed him in conflict with Egypt and the ancient kingdom of Judah. His ruthless conquest of Judah resulted in the destruction of Jerusalem and the entire kingdom, and it ultimately earned him notoriety in the Old Testament, where he is mentioned in the books of Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel. The Assyrians also exiled the Jews. The Siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE is arguably the most important event in Jewish history. First, it was the central battle in the First Jewish-Roman war. Second, the failure of the siege on the Jewish side resulted in the destruction of the Second Temple of Jerusalem, a disaster that would eventually prove both permanent and catastrophic, since it was never rebuilt.

Ferocious Ambition Joan Crawford's March to Stardom [Audiobook]
Free Download Robert Dance, Greg D. Barnett (Narrator), "Ferocious Ambition: Joan Crawford's March to Stardom"
English | ASIN: B0CRSY5KRM | 2024 | M4B@64 kbps | ~10:5:00 | 315 MB
Joan Crawford's remarkable forty-five-year motion picture career is one of the industry's longest. Signing her first contract in 1925, she was crowned an MGM star four years later and by the mid-1930s was the most popular actress in America. In the early 1940s, Crawford's risky decision to move to Warner Bros. was rewarded with an Oscar for Mildred Pierce. This triumph launched a series of film noir classics. She teamed with rival Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, proving that Crawford, whose career had begun by defining big-screen glamour, had matured into a superb dramatic actress.
Her last film was released in 1970, and two years later she made a final television appearance, forty-seven years after walking through the MGM gate for the first time. Crawford made a successful transition into business during her later years, notably in her association with Pepsi-Cola.
Overlooked in previous biographies has been Crawford's fierce resolve in creating and then maintaining her star persona. She let neither her age nor the passing of time block her unrivaled ambition, and she continually reimagined herself, noting once that, for the right part, she would play Wally Beery's grandmother. But she was always the consummate star, and at the time of her death in 1977, she was a motion picture legend and a twentieth-century icon.
