The Clinical Presentation of Parkinson's Disease and the Dyadic Relationship between Patients and Carers A Neuropsychol
Free Download Barbara Politynska, "The Clinical Presentation of Parkinson's Disease and the Dyadic Relationship between Patients and Carers: A Neuropsychol"
English | ISBN: 1443846031 | 2013 | 655 pages | PDF | 5 MB
Providing care for someone with a neurodegenerative condition such as Parkinson s disease requires an integrated approach, taking into account the needs of the person with the disorder and family members most closely involved in their care. This is only possible with an understanding of the complex nature of Parkinson s disease, extending beyond the management of the motor disorder. It also requires an appreciation of the significant neuropsychological changes accompanying the disease, which affect the person s psychosocial adaptation to the condition and appear to have greatest impact on the well-being of carers. This book offers a comprehensive study of Parkinson s disease, providing critical evaluation and integration at various levels of enquiry, whilst keeping the neuropsychological aspects of the condition at the forefront of interest. It emphasizes the importance of the dyadic relationship between those suffering from the illness and their spouse carers, who are thrust into a dynamic care-giving process, in which both play an active role. Drawing together the intricate threads that underlie this process, the study provides evidence to suggest that carers perceptions of the psychological changes affecting their spouse are of primary importance to shaping their experience of care-giving. The study is designed to go beyond a merely descriptive approach, seeking and providing plausible explanations for various conundrums in care-giving, which may help to inform intervention strategies aimed at alleviating some of its more difficult aspects for carers.

The Classical Tradition Greek and Roman Influences on Western Literature
Free Download Gilbert Highet, "The Classical Tradition: Greek and Roman Influences on Western Literature"
English | ISBN: 0199377693 | 2015 | 808 pages | PDF | 26 MB
Originally published in 1949, Gilbert Highet's seminal The Classical Tradition is a herculean feat of comparative literature and a landmark publication in the history of classical reception. As Highet states in the opening lines of his Preface, this book outlines "the chief ways in which Greek and Latin influence has moulded the literatures of western Europe and America". With that simple statement, Highet takes his reader on a sweeping exploration of the history of western literature. To summarize what he covers is a near-impossible task. Discussions of Ovid and French literature of the Middle Ages and Chaucer's engagement with Virgil and Cicero lead, swiftly, into arguments of Christian versus "pagan" works in the Renaissance, Baroque imitations of Seneca, and the (re)birth of satire. Building momentum through Byron, Tennyson, and the rise of "art of art's sake", Highet, at last, arrives at his conclusion: the birth and establishment of modernism. Though his humanist style may appear out-of-date in today's postmodernist world, there is a value to ensuring this influential work reaches a new generation, and Highet's light touch and persuasive, engaging voice guarantee the book's usefulness for a contemporary audience. Indeed, the book is free of the jargon-filled style of literary criticism that plagues much of current scholarship. Accompanied by a new foreword by renown critic Harold Bloom, this reissue will enable new readers to appreciate the enormous legacy of classical literature in the canonical works of medieval, Renaissance, and modern Europe and America.

Named after the Nicaraguan rebels who successfully overthrew an authoritarian dictator, Sandinista! consists of 36 songs across six sides of vinyl. Produced by the band, it showcases their politics as well as their ability to adopt a multitude of genres ranging from punk, reggae, jazz, gospel, calypso, and hip hop. Free from the influence of their Machiavellian manager, Bernie Rhodes, The Clash still battled their record label to release the triple LP on their terms: three for the price of one.

The Cinemas of Italian Migration European and Transatlantic Narratives
Free Download Sabine Schrader, "The Cinemas of Italian Migration: European and Transatlantic Narratives"
English | ISBN: 1443846244 | 2013 | 340 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Italy is more strongly influenced by the experiences of migrants than many other European countries. This includes an historically ongoing internal migration from the south to the north which is strongly echoed in Neo-realism, a mass emigration mainly from western Europe and North and South America that is connected with mafia films, among others, in Italy's collective imaginary as well as a more recent immigration influx from the southwestern Mediterranean which is dealt with at a film level in New Italian Cinema in the recent decades. Thus, three forms of migration have affected politics as well as Italy's film history, the latter, through the development of new genres and sub-genres. In this manner, questions concerning cultural studies are intersected with those of film aesthetics in this volume. The Cinemas of Italian Migration: European and Transatlantic Narratives brings together for the first time international contributions on the early post-WWII cinema like Il cammino della speranza (The Road to Hope Pietro Germi, 1950) or I magliari (The Magliari Francesco Rosi, 1959) with Migrant Road Movie classics like Lamerica (Gianni Amelio, 1994) and contemporary Italian comedies like Into Paradiso (Into Paradise Paola Randi, 2010). Additionally, this volume includes articles dealing with often marginalized filmmakers (e.g. Vincenzo Marra, Roberta Torre), independent productions (among others, Carmine Amoroso's Cover Boy, 2006) and genres like contemporary Italian documentary films (e.g. Andrea Segre's A Sud di Lampedusa/South of Lampedusa, 2006). The migration narratives are shaped by European and transatlantic filmmakers, not only by Ferzan Ozpetek but also by Werner Schroeter from Germany, Denis Rabaglia from Switzerland, Martin Scorsese from the US and Sandra Gugliotta from Argentina, to name just a few examples.

The Church A Theological and Historical Account
Free Download Gerald Bray, "The Church: A Theological and Historical Account"
English | 2016 | ISBN: 0801030862 | EPUB | pages: 288 | 1.7 mb
Renowned evangelical theologian Gerald Bray provides a clear and coherent account of the church in biblical, historical, and theological perspective. He tells the story of the church in its many manifestations through time, starting with its appearance in the New Testament, moving through centuries of persecution and triumph, and discussing how and why the ancient church broke up at the Reformation. Along the way, Bray looks at the four classic marks of the church-its oneness, holiness, catholicity, and apostolicity-and illustrates how each of these marks has been understood by different Christian traditions. The book concludes with a look at the ecumenical climate of today and suggests ways that the four characteristics of the church can and should be manifested in our present global context.

The Chora of Metaponto 4 The Late Roman Farmhouse at San Biagio
Free Download Joseph Coleman Carter, "The Chora of Metaponto 4: The Late Roman Farmhouse at San Biagio"
English | 2012 | ISBN: 0292728778 | PDF | pages: 280 | 17.5 mb
This volume in the Institute of Classical Archaeology's series on rural settlements in the countryside (chora) of Metaponto presents the excavation of the Late Roman farmhouse at San Biagio. Located near the site of an earlier Greek sanctuary, this modest but well-appointed structure was an unexpected find from a period generally marked by large landholdings and monumental villas. Description of earlier periods of occupation (Neolithic and Greek) is followed by a detailed discussion of the farmhouse itself and its historical and socioeconomic context. The catalogs and analyses of finds include impressive deposits of coins from the late third and early fourth centuries AD. Use of virtual reality CAD software has yielded a deeper understanding of the architectural structure and its reconstruction. A remarkable feature is the small bath complex, with its examples of window glass. This study reveals the existence of a small but viable rural social and economic entity and alternative to the traditional image of crisis and decline during the Late Imperial period.
