Leibniz' Doctrine of Necessary Truth
Free Download Margaret Dauler Wilson, "Leibniz' Doctrine of Necessary Truth "
English | ISBN: 036733464X | 2021 | 152 pages | EPUB, PDF | 188 KB + 14 MB
Originally published in 1990. This study was first written in 1965 when interest in Leibniz was intensifying. The book looks in detail at the doctrine of necessity - that necessary truths are those derivable from the principle of identity by the substitution of definitions. It first considers views of philosophic predecessors, relating Leibniz' doctrine to Aristotle and Hobbes among others. The second section examines the conflict between his reductionistic and formalistic views and the opposing intuitionism and anti-reductionism of Descartes and Locke. The author critically examines the theory of necessity, including Leibniz's arguments against the views of Hobbes and Locke, concluding with distinctions between necessary and contingent truths.

Legends of Alexander the Great
Free Download Richard Stoneman, "Legends of Alexander the Great"
English | ISBN: 1848857853 | 2011 | 192 pages | PDF | 4 MB
'How can a man become a god?' So enquired Alexander the Great of the Brahmin sages of India. And how did they reply? 'By doing what it is impossible for a man to do.' And that answer set a keynote for the Conqueror's entire career, which was characterized throughout by Alexander's attempts to achieve the unachievable: to scale the fresh heights and make the incredible real and tangible on earth. He wrestled an Indian monster larger than an elephant, fought ants the size of foxes and contested bats with human teeth. He became a Jewish convert, sailed up the Ganges and visited the Earthly Paradise. Already a legend in his own lifetime, the glittering figure of Alexander preoccupied European, Jewish and Arabic folklore until the 15th century. Richard Stoneman, who is one of his leading modern interpreters, here presents a range of Greek and Latin texts which recount the Conqueror's adventures in the east. Essential reading for students of late antique and medieval literature, these stories are still unsurpassed for sheer entertainment, opening a window onto a rumbustious world of legend as rich as that of the Arabian Nights.

Lectures on Non–linear Plasma Kinetics
Free Download Lectures on Non-linear Plasma Kinetics by Vadim N. Tsytovich
English | PDF | 1995 | 380 Pages | ISBN : 3642789048 | 34.8 MB
Lectures on Non-linear Plasma Kinetics is an introduction to modern non-linear plasma physics showing how many of the techniques of modern non-linear physics find applications in plasma physics and how, in turn, the results of this research find applications in astrophysics. Emphasis is given to explaining the physics of nonlinear processes and the radical change of cross-sections by collective effects. The author discusses new nonlinear phenomena involving the excitation of coherent nonlinear structures and the dynamics of their random motions in relation to new self-organization processes. He also gives a detailed description of applications of the general theory to various research fields, including the interaction of powerful radiation with matter, controlled thermonuclear research, etc.

Lectures on Gaussian Integral Operators and Classical Groups
Free Download Yurii A. Neretin, "Lectures on Gaussian Integral Operators and Classical Groups "
English | ISBN: 3037190809 | 2011 | 571 pages | PDF | 3 MB
This book is an elementary self-contained introduction to some constructions of representation theory and related topics of differential geometry and analysis. Topics covered include the theory of various Fourier-like integral operators such as Segal-Bargmann transforms, Gaussian integral operators in $L^2$ and in the Fock space, integral operators with theta-kernels, the geometry of real and $p$-adic classical groups and symmetric spaces. The heart of the book is the Weil representation of the symplectic group (real and complex realizations, relations with theta-functions and modular forms, $p$-adic and adelic constructions) and representations in Hilbert spaces of holomorphic functions of several complex variables. This book is addressed to graduate students and researchers in representation theory, differential geometry, and operator theory. Prerequisites are standard university courses in linear algebra, functional analysis, and complex analysis. A publication of the European Mathematical Society (EMS). Distributed within the Americas by the American Mathematical Society.

Lectures on Field Theory and Topology (CBMS Regional Conference Series in Mathematics)
Free Download Daniel S. Freed, "Lectures on Field Theory and Topology (CBMS Regional Conference Series in Mathematics) "
English | ISBN: 1470452065 | 2020 | 186 pages | PDF | 2 MB
These lectures recount an application of stable homotopy theory to a concrete problem in low energy physics: the classification of special phases of matter. While the joint work of the author and Michael Hopkins is a focal point, a general geometric frame of reference on quantum field theory is emphasized. Early lectures describe the geometric axiom systems introduced by Graeme Segal and Michael Atiyah in the late 1980s, as well as subsequent extensions. This material provides an entry point for mathematicians to delve into quantum field theory. Classification theorems in low dimensions are proved to illustrate the framework. The later lectures turn to more specialized topics in field theory, including the relationship between invertible field theories and stable homotopy theory, extended unitarity, anomalies, and relativistic free fermion systems. The accompanying mathematical explanations touch upon (higher) category theory, duals to the sphere spectrum, equivariant spectra, differential cohomology, and Dirac operators. The outcome of computations made using the Adams spectral sequence is presented and compared to results in the condensed matter literature obtained by very different means. The general perspectives and specific applications fuse into a compelling story at the interface of contemporary mathematics and theoretical physics.

Lecture Notes in Analog Electronics Noise in Electronic Circuits and Low Noise Amplifier Design
Free Download Lecture Notes in Analog Electronics: Noise in Electronic Circuits and Low Noise Amplifier Design by Vančo Litovski
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 217 Pages | ISBN : 9819989043 | 37.7 MB
This book discusses unified noise models of the broadest set of electronic components including, resistors, diodes, all types of transistors, and most types of opto-electronic devices. The noise, however, is a phenomenon which is inherent to any technology. It is omnipresent. It is obstructing every application and in many cases special actions must be undertaken to recognize the main function's signal in the mistiness of the noise. The number of types of noise sources in electronics is almost unlimited. The book offers unique comprehensive approach to noise analysis in electronic circuits based on modified nodal analysis and the superposition theorem. It also encompasses a broadest set of low noise amplifier design procedures covering BJT, MOSET, MESFET, and HEMT technologies.
