They can contribute to making it both better and more intercultural, but also, on occasion, create limited and biased ideas about the Other. This collected volume undertakes multidisciplinary research into textbooks, taking one of the best education systems in the world Finland as an example. The authors investigate the issue of diversities in textbooks from multiple perspectives, disciplines, school levels and content areas. Together, the chapters provide examples of hidden ideologies, (neo-)stereotyping and othering when looking beneath the surface of texts and illustrations. The authors also present concrete tools that can be used for analysing diversities and interculturality in textbooks. In addition, the chapters will serve to develop teachers and students abilities to encounter diversities and similarities in ways that enhance their sensitivity, self-reflexivity and criticality. This volume will be of interest for students in educational sciences; pre-service teachers and in-service teachers of various school subjects; teacher educators; and researchers in the areas of subject didactics, multicultural and intercultural education, language education, educational leadership, curriculum, and policy. Thomas, "Diverse Pathways: Race and the Incorporation of Black, White, and Arab-Origin Africans in the United States " English | ISBN: 1611861047 | 2014 | 162 pages | PDF | 797 KB Africans are among the fastest-growing immigrant groups in the United States. Although they are racially and ethnically diverse, few studies have examined how these differences affect their patterns of incorporation into society. This book is the first to highlight the role of race and ethnicity, Arab ethnicity in particular, in shaping the experiences of African immigrants. It demonstrates that American conceptions of race result in significant inequalities in the ways in which African immigrants are socially integrated. Thomas argues that suggestions that Black Africans are model-minorities who have overcome the barriers of race are misleading, showing that Black and Arab-ethnicity Africans systematically experience less favorable socioeconomic outcomes than their White African counterparts. Overall, the book makes three critical arguments. First, historical and contemporary constructions of race have important implications for understanding the dynamics of African immigration and settlement in the United States. Second, there are significant racial inequalities in the social and economic incorporation of contemporary African immigrants. Finally, Arab ethnicity has additional implications for understanding intra-racial disparities in incorporation among contemporary African immigrants. In general, these arguments are foundational for understanding the diversity of African immigrant experiences. ![]() Free Download Distributed Infrastructure Support for Electronic Commerce Applications by Hans-Arno Jacobsen English | PDF | 2004 | 184 Pages | ISBN : 1402076487 | 16.9 MB Distributed Infrastructure Support For E-Commerce And Distributed Applications is organized in three parts. The first part constitutes an overview, a more detailed motivation of the problem context, and a tutorial-like introduction to middleware systems. The second part is comprised of a set of chapters that study solutions to leverage the trade-off between a transparent programming model and application-level enabled resource control. The third part of this book presents three detailed distributed application case studies and demonstrates how standard middleware platforms fail to adequately cope with resource control needs of the application designer in these three cases: ![]() Free Download Mr Tom Stennett, "Dissident Authorship in Mozambique: the Case of António Quadros (1933-1994) " English | ISBN: 0198885903 | 2024 | 160 pages | EPUB, PDF | 433 KB + 2 MB Dissident Authorship in Mozambique: the Case of António Quadros is the first monograph on the literary works of the pennames of Portuguese poet and painter António Quadros (1933-1994). The book uses Quadros's quirky case- a Portuguese man who lived in colonial and post-independence Mozambique, where he published poetry and prose under three pennames-João Pedro Grabato Dias, Frey Ioannes Garabatus, and Mutimati Barnabé Joãoto-to examine the question of what it means to be an author in Mozambique and how authorship changed after the end of Portuguese colonial rule. Quadros's engagement with the question of the authors' place and function in authoritarian contexts stands as a fruitful counterpoint to the influential essays by Roland Barthes ('The Death of the Author', 1968) and Michel Foucault ('What is an Author?', 1969), the publication of which coincided with Quadros's literary début in 1968. Quadros's interesting and useful contributions to the question of Mozambican authorship are analysed in historical context and read alongside postcolonial and decolonial theory. ![]() Free Download Disney Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Official Knitting Guide to Halloween Town and Christmas Town by Tanis Gray English | September 26, 2023 | ISBN: 1647229286 | 224 pages | MOBI | 96 Mb Weave magic into your knits with the first-ever Disney Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas knitting guide, featuring more than 25 patterns inspired by the strange and creepy characters of Tim Burton's beloved classic. ![]() Free Download Disinformation in Open Online Media: 5th Multidisciplinary International Symposium, MISDOOM 2023, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, November 21-22, 2023, Proceedings by Davide Ceolin, Tommaso Caselli, Marina Tulin English | PDF (True) | 2023 | 204 Pages | ISBN : 3031478959 | 13.8 MB This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th Multidisciplinary International Symposium on Disinformation in Open Online Media, MISDOOM 2023, which was held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, during November 21-22, 2023.
