Constantine the Great And the Christian Revolution
Free Download Constantine the Great: And the Christian Revolution By G. P. Baker
2001 | 378 Pages | ISBN: 0815411588 | PDF | 17 MB
Roman Emperor Constantine is one of the most momentous figures in the history of Christianity, a ruler whose conversion turned the cult of Jesus into a world religion. Classical scholar Baker tells of the changing Roman world in which Constantine rose to power―an empire where feudalism was replacing the old senatorial government and the lands of the empire were split into two regions. It was also a place where customs from the East were replacing the old Roman values, preparing the way for the Byzantine Empire. Baker describes Constantine's unique conversion (which apparently did not prevent him from sacrificing to idols), his wars to control first the Roman army and then the Germans and the lands of Asia Minor, and finally the founding of Constantinople and the establishment of the monarchial system that dominated Europe for over a thousand years.

Conservativism A Cultural–Psychological Exploration
Free Download Conservativism: A Cultural-Psychological Exploration
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031512049 | 144 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 8 MB
The present work discusses the phenomenon of conservativism from a qualitative, cultural-psychological perspective. As such, the text breaks with current mainstream research about political ideologies wanting to assess a political culture within the simple administration of a questionnaire. The SpringerBrief will oppose such a perspective trying to assess how the conservative-minded person will structure space and time in peculiar ways. In the first part of the study, participants were invited to reflect about how they preserve or conserve meaning in various activities whereas the second part of the study tried to shed light onto how something preservable or conservable comes into being and what it actually makes it preservable. Here, an autoethnographic study revealed that something becomes meaningfully preservable when it satisfies multiple demands of the Self as well as of the environment. Readers will realize the insufficiency of the positivistic attitude analyzing conservativism from a simple quantitative perspective, and researchers are shown how political ideologies or cultures can be assessed ecologically - something that has not yet been undertaken. This leads to an appeal for scientists to study the phenomenon of conservativism more wholistically.

Free Download Conservation of Architectural Heritage (CAH): Developing Sustainable Practices
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031332210 | 444 Pages | PDF (True) | 51 MB
This book presents practical, applicable solutions that contribute to built heritage conservation, discussing challenges like resource constraints, ineffective legislation, lack of coordination between different relevant bodies, and absence of public awareness and involvement. This is to maintain the beauty and cultural meaning of the architectural heritage since they are like a glimpse from the past life, representing how people lived, their religions, and beliefs in addition to the primitive but inspirational technology used in construction. As a result, this book is of significant importance to professionals in the fields of architecture, sustainability, as well as policymakers.

Conservation Biology Principles for Forested Landscapes
Free Download Conservation Biology Principles for Forested Landscapes By Joan Voller (editor), Scott Harrison (editor)
1998 | 512 Pages | ISBN: 0774806303 | PDF | 29 MB
A major premise of conservation biology is that humans should interact with the forested landscape in a manner that is ecologically sustainable. As we continue to use forests and make decisions about land use without having perfect information, it is becoming increasingly clear that current approaches are not working. The purpose of this book is to improve planning and decision-making processes by providing the most up-to-date information on ecological issues. The topics covered are some of the most important in the current debates about land use. Data and information from the scientific literature are presented in chapters on connectivity, riparian areas, spatial planning, natural disturbance, interior habitat, biodiversity and old growth, coarse woody debris and edge effects. At the end of each chapter research needs are specifically addressed, pointing to directions for future inquiry. "Conservation Biology Principles for Forested Landscapes" should be useful to students of forestry, ecology, conservation biology, and other natural sciences. It should also assist practitioners of land-based programmes. Additionally, it should serve as a resource for the many community groups involved in land-use discussions.

Conscience the Path to Holiness Walking With Newman
Free Download Edward Jeremy Miller, "Conscience the Path to Holiness: Walking With Newman"
English | ISBN: 1443867004 | 2014 | 204 pages | PDF | 839 KB
The writings on the nature of conscience are many, and those of John Henry Cardinal Newman about conscience are among the very best. Conscience the Path to Holiness: Walking with Newman is the work of ten Newman scholars from three continents. Against the contemporary view that conscience means one's inalienable right to assert with impunity whatever one feels personally convinced of, this book reclaims a richer and more balanced presentation of conscience that avoids what Newman, in his day, called counterfeit conscience, that is, the right to assert self-will. But why the connection with holiness, a feature that might seem archaic to moderns? Faithfulness to conscience, even to an erring conscience, is not only self-correcting in its pursuit, it is also ennobling. The more ennobled a person becomes, the closer he or she draws to God's image and likeness, even if the person does not acknowledge God's reality. Such was Newman's contention, and such is the testimony to him in this book.

Hepatitis C is a serious viral illness that affects the liver. Most often spread by blood-to-blood contact, the majority of people infected with hepatitis C do not know they are infected until liver damage has occurred. Because the hepatitis C virus changes its form frequently, presently there is no vaccine for HCV; but once diagnosed, effective treatment is available for many. Written for people diagnosed with hepatitis C and under the care of a physician, this informative book is designed to answer questions about the condition and allow the reader to play an active role in its treatment.
