English | 2024 | ISBN: 1009468073 | 88 Pages | PDF (True) | 5.5 MB
This Element explores the history of urban planning, city building, and city life in the socialist world. It follows the global trajectories of architects, planners, and ideas about socialist urbanism developed during the twentieth century, while also highlighting features of everyday life in socialist cities. The Element opens with a section on the socialist city as it took shape first in the Soviet Union. Subsequent sections take a comparative and transnational approach to the history of socialist urbanism, tracing socialist city development in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Magnetohydrodynamic Equilibrium and Stability of Stellarators
Free Download Magnetohydrodynamic Equilibrium and Stability of Stellarators by Frances Bauer , Octavio Betancourt , Paul Garabedian
English | PDF | 1984 | 203 Pages | ISBN : 1461297532 | 12.2 MB
In this book, we describe in detail a numerical method to study the equilibrium and stability of a plasma confined by a strong magnetic field in toroidal geometry without two-dimensional symmetry. The principal appli cation is to stellarators, which are currently of interest in thermonuclear fusion research. Our mathematical model is based on the partial differential equations of ideal magnetohydrodynamics. The main contribution is a computer code named BETA that is listed in the final chapter. This work is the natural continuation of an investigation that was presented in an early volume of the Springer Series in Computational Physics (cf. [3]). It has been supported over a period of years by the U.S. Department of Energy under Contract DE-AC02-76ER03077 with New York University. We would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Franz Herrnegger for the assistance he has given us with the preparation of the manuscript. We are especially indebted to Connie Engle for the high quality of the final typescript. New York F. BAUER October 1983 O. BETANCOURT P. GARABEDIAN Contents 1. Introduction 1 2. Magnetic Mountain Stalinism as a Civilization
Free Download Magnetic Mountain: Stalinism as a Civilization By Stephen Kotkin
1997 | 639 Pages | ISBN: 0520208234 | EPUB | 10 MB
This study is the first of its kind: a street-level inside account of what Stalinism meant to the masses of ordinary people who lived it. Stephen Kotkin was the first American in 45 years to be allowed into Magnitogorsk, a city built in response to Stalin's decision to transform the predominantly agricultural nation into a "country of metal." With unique access to previously untapped archives and interviews, Kotkin forges a vivid and compelling account of the impact of industrialization on a single urban community.Kotkin argues that Stalinism offered itself as an opportunity for enlightenment. The utopia it proffered, socialism, would be a new civilization based on the repudiation of capitalism. The extent to which the citizenry participated in this scheme and the relationship of the state's ambitions to the dreams of ordinary people form the substance of this fascinating story. Kotkin tells it deftly, with a remarkable understanding of the social and political system, as well as a keen instinct for the details of everyday life.Kotkin depicts a whole range of life: from the blast furnace workers who labored in the enormous iron and steel plant, to the families who struggled with the shortage of housing and services. Thematically organized and closely focused,Magnetic Mountainsignals the beginning of a new stage in the writing of Soviet social history.

Magnet Therapy The Gentle and Effective Way to Balance Body Systems
Free Download Magnet Therapy: The Gentle and Effective Way to Balance Body Systems By Ghanshyam Singh Birla
1999 | 160 Pages | ISBN: 0892818417 | PDF | 20 MB
* The complete guide to magnetotherapy--the treatment that promises to revolutionize 21st-century medicine.* Magnet therapy has been used by more than 100 million people worldwide.* Clinical studies show magnet therapy to be an effective treatment for back pain, insomnia, high cholesterol and blood pressure, and many other ailments. The recent discovery of magnetic receptors in the human brain has confirmed what the ancient Chinese, Indians, Egyptians, and Greeks always knew: that human beings are strongly influenced by the Earth's magnetic field, and that by subtly altering our own energy fields with magnets we can restore proper balance to our body systems. This science of magnetotherapy has already been successfully used by more than 100 million people in the United States and around the world. Numerous scientific studies show that many cases of stiff shoulders, back, or neck, unexplained chest pain and frequent headaches, as well as insomnia and general fatigue are actually caused by what is known as Magnetic Deficiency Syndrome, and double-blind tests reveal that magnets have brought rapid relief in 90 percent of these cases.Magnet Therapypresents the history and science of this fascinating subject, explaining why magnets increase oxygenation in the blood, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, reduce pain, enhance cellular regeneration, and may even inhibit tumor growth. The authors detail methods for treating symptoms ranging from asthma to toothaches and weigh the benefits of magnetic necklaces, magnetic belts, and magnetized water, as well as traditional bipolar magnets. For devotees of alternative medicine, Birla and Hemlin explain how magnetotherapy fits into the context of other practices, such as Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine, and how it can be used in conjunction with acupuncture, massage, and other therapies. Complete with case studies and resource listings,Magnet Therapyis the comprehensive guide to what promises to be the next medical revolution.

The release of ChatGPT has kicked off an arms race in Machine Learning (ML), however ML has also been described as a black box and very hard to understand. Machine Learning, Animated eases you into basic ML concepts and summarizes the learning process in three words: initialize, adjust and repeat. This is illustrated step by step with animation to show how machines learn: from initial parameter values to adjusting each step, to the final converged parameters and predictions.
