General of the Armies John J. Pershing (1860-1948) had a long and distinguished military career, but he is most famous for leading the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I. He published a memoir, My Experiences in the World War, and has been the subject of numerous biographies, but the literature regarding this towering figure and his enormous role in the First World War deserves to be expanded to include a collection of his wartime correspondence.

John Galsworthy's Compassion All Beings Great and Small
Free Download Jill Felicity Durey, "John Galsworthy's Compassion: All Beings Great and Small"
English | ISBN: 3030874354 | 2021 | 324 pages | PDF | 4 MB
This book discusses John Galsworthy's compassion for people and animals, in his fiction, non-fiction and drama. Initial chapters explore compassion in The Forsyte Saga and The Modern Comedy, and his parents' influence. Other chapters examine his works helping prison reform, men and children disabled during the First World War, and people whose relatives were interned as war-time alien enemies. Two chapters focus on slum clearance and labour unrest during the twentieth century's first three decades. Another two concentrate on animal welfare and vivisection. The final chapter attempts to appraise Galsworthy as a writer by looking at what commentators past and present have said, and at what constitutes literature.

Jews in the East European Borderlands Essays in Honor of John Doyle Klier
Free Download Jews in the East European Borderlands: Essays in Honor of John Doyle Klier By Eugene M. Avrutin, Harriet Murav
2012 | 350 Pages | ISBN: 1936235595 | PDF | 4 MB
John Doyle Klier's pioneering publications on the relations between Jews and the Russian social order-on topics such as public opinion, governance, conversion, Russification politics, antisemitism, and pogroms-have influenced an entire generation of new scholarship. Jews in the East European Borderlands, a collection of essays honoring Klier's life and work, brings together some of the most innovative scholarship in the field. Focusing on the complex, often violent, entanglements between Jews and Russians, historians and literary scholars critically reassess the artifacts of high culture, including Yiddish and Russian prose and poetry, as well as dimensions of daily life, including letter-writing, diaries, the work of philanthropy, photojournalism, and the mass circulation press.

Jewish Women in the Early Italian Women's Movement, 1861–1945 Biographies, Discourses, and Transnational Networks
Free Download Ruth Nattermann, "Jewish Women in the Early Italian Women's Movement, 1861-1945: Biographies, Discourses, and Transnational Networks "
English | ISBN: 3030977889 | 2022 | 402 pages | PDF | 8 MB
This book is the first epoch-spanning study on Jewish participation in the Italian women's movement, focussing in a transnational perspective on the experience of Italian-Jewish protagonists in Liberal Italy, during the First World War and the Fascist dictatorship until 1945. Drawing on ego-documents, contemporary journals and Jewish community archives, as well as records by the police and public authorities, it examines the tensions within the emancipation process between participation and exclusion. The book argues that the racial laws from 1938 did not represent the sudden end of an idyllic integration, but rather the climax of a long-term development. Social marginalization, the persecution of Jewish rights, and the assault on Jewish lives during fascism are analysed distinctly from the perspective of Jewish women. In spite of their significant influence on the transnational orientation of the Italian women's movement, their emancipation as women and Jewsremained incomplete.
