Theatre from Rhodesia to Zimbabwe Hegemony, Identity and a Contested Postcolony
Free Download Samuel Ravengai, "Theatre from Rhodesia to Zimbabwe: Hegemony, Identity and a Contested Postcolony "
English | ISBN: 3030745937 | 2021 | 290 pages | PDF | 7 MB
The voices that are represented in this collection come from various parts of the world and express the views of practitioners and scholars who have all had first-hand experience working in Zimbabwean theatre from the last days of Rhodesia to Zimbabwe. The collection views the long continuum of developments in local theatre history as a case of the intrusive hegemonies that came with colonial Rhodesia as a conquest society, and localised identities in the form of the persistence of indigenous and syncretic popular forms. With time, all these came together to constitute the makings of a contested post-colony in contemporary theatre practice in Zimbabwe. The primary interest of scholars who are represented here is located at the intersection of political, cultural and performative discourses and the flow of Zimbabwean history. The focus, moreover, is not only on the history of performance cultures in postcolonial Zimbabwe - it extends its critical gaze to include the history of political ideas that gave rise to cultural contestation in the field of theatre and performance.

Theater as Data Computational Journeys into Theater Research
Free Download Miguel Escobar Varela, "Theater as dаta: Computational Journeys into Theater Research"
English | ISBN: 0472054791 | 2021 | 230 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
In Theater as Data, Miguel Escobar Varela explores the use of computational methods and digital data in theater research. He considers the implications of these new approaches, and explains the roles that statistics and visualizations play. Reflecting on recent debates in the humanities, the author suggests that there are two ways of using data, both of which have a place in theater research. Data-driven methods are closer to the pursuit of verifiable results common in the sciences; and data-assisted methods are closer to the interpretive traditions of the humanities. The book surveys four major areas within theater scholarship: texts (not only playscripts but also theater reviews and program booklets); relationships (both the links between fictional characters and the collaborative networks of artists and producers); motion (the movement of performers and objects on stage); and locations (the coordinates of performance events, venues, and touring circuits).

The revolt of the elites and the betrayal of democracy
Free Download The revolt of the elites : and the betrayal of democracy By Lasch, Christopher
1996 | 276 Pages | ISBN: 0393313719 | EPUB | 1 MB
"[A] passionate, compelling, and disturbing argument that the ills of democracy in the United States today arise from the default of its elites." ―John Gray, New York Times Book Review (front-page review) In a front-page review in the Washington Post Book World, John Judis wrote: "Political analysts have been poring over exit polls and precinct-level votes to gauge the meaning of last November's election, but they would probably better employ their time reading the late Christopher Lasch's book." And in the National Review, Robert Bork says The Revolt of the Elites "ranges provocatively [and] insightfully." Controversy has raged around Lasch's targeted attack on the elites, their loss of moral values, and their abandonment of the middle class and poor, for he sets up the media and educational institutions as a large source of the problem. In this spirited work, Lasch calls out for a return to community, schools that teach history not self-esteem, and a return to morality and even the teachings of religion. He does this in a nonpartisan manner, looking to the lessons of American history, and castigating those in power for the ever-widening gap between the economic classes, which has created a crisis in American society. The Revolt of the Elites and the Betrayal of Democracy is riveting social commentary

Originally published as a review of Erik Erikson's complete psychological theory, this book provides a context for Erikson's ideas - the identity crisis, the interdependence of history and life history, the life cycle, and the theory that maturity is not the end of psychological growth. This text covers the ninth stage - that of extreme old age. As human longevity increases, that stage is becoming of increasing importance. Joan Erikson, Erikson's wife, now in her 90s, guides the reader through the challenges of old age, extending Erik Erikson's vision of human development in its major phases
