The Social Psychology of Trauma
Free Download The Social Psychology of Trauma: Connecting the Personal and the Political
English | 2024 | ISBN: 1009306987 | 222 Pages | PDF (True) | 2 MB
Many of us have been affected by trauma and struggle to manage our health and well-being. The social psychological approach to health highlights how social and cultural forces, as much as individual ones, are central to how we experience and cope with adversity. This book integrates psychology, politics, and medicine to offer a new understanding that speaks to the causes and consequences of traumatic experiences. Connecting the personal with the political, Muldoon details the evidence that traumatic experiences can, under certain conditions, impact people's political positions and appetite for social change. This perspective reveals trauma as a socially situated phenomenon linked to power and privilege or disempowerment and disadvantage. The discussion will interest those affected by trauma and those supporting them, as well as students, researchers, practitioners, and policy makers in social psychology, health and clinical psychology, and political science. This title is available as open access on Cambridge Core.

The Slave Trade in Africa An Ongoing Holocaust
Free Download The Slave Trade in Africa: An Ongoing Holocaust by Simon Webb
English | March 23, 2023 | ISBN: 1399094076 | 224 pages | MOBI | 12 Mb
Is it true that the trans-Atlantic slave trade, about which so much has been heard in recent years, would have been impossible without the willing and enthusiastic cooperation of African leaders? Slavery was a common practice in Africa long before the arrival of Europeans, with the trade in black slaves, who were transported from Africa to America and the islands of the Caribbean, aided by the African traders who benefited from the arrangement. Even when Europe and America outlawed slavery and the slave trade, those living in Africa clung tenaciously to the old ways and refused to relinquish what was, to them, a time-honored custom. Is it for this reason that slavery lingers on in Africa to this day?

The Sinking of HMAS Sydney How Sailors Lived, Fought and Died in Australia's Greatest Naval Disaster
Free Download The Sinking of HMAS Sydney: How Sailors Lived, Fought and Died in Australia's Greatest Naval Disaster by Tom Lewis
English | November 13, 2023 | ISBN: 1923004328 | 540 pages | PDF | 10 Mb
HMAS Sydney was the pride of the fleet during the Second World War. A light cruiser and one of Australia's main combat vessels. On the 19th November 1941, off the coast of Western Australia, The Sydney engaged in a fierce and bloody battle with the German raider Kormoran. Following this action, The Sydney failed to return to port. An extensive search and rescue carried out, but the warship had disappeared with all 645 men on board. Whilst the battle lasted little more than an hour, this single ship engagement remains Australia's greatest naval disaster. More Australian servicemen died in the battle between the German raider Kormoran and the light cruiser HMAS Sydney than perished in the Vietnam War. It was not until 2008 that the wreck was discovered. The passage of time between the sinking and the discovery led to numerous mystery and conspiracy theories, all of which started replacing the truth. Now, with an explanation of how those on board lived, fought, and died, this book tells the full story.
