Optimal Decisions Under Uncertainty Methods, Models, and Management
Free Download Optimal Decisions Under Uncertainty: Methods, Models, and Management by Jati K. Sengupta
English | PDF | 1985 | 295 Pages | ISBN : 3540150323 | 19.6 MB
Understanding the stochastic enviornment is as much important to the manager as to the economist. From production and marketing to financial management, a manager has to assess various costs imposed by uncertainty. The economist analyzes the role of incomplete and too often imperfect information structures on the optimal decisions made by a firm. The need for understanding the role of uncertainty in quantitative decision models, both in economics and management science provide the basic motivation of this monograph. The stochastic environment is analyzed here in terms of the following specific models of optimization: linear and quadratic models, linear programming, control theory and dynamic programming. Uncertainty is introduced here through the para meters, the constraints, and the objective function and its impact evaluated. Specifically recent developments in applied research are emphasized, so that they can help the decision-maker arrive at a solution which has some desirable charac teristics like robustness, stability and cautiousness. Mathematical treatment is kept at a fairly elementary level and applied as pects are emphasized much more than theory. Moreover, an attempt is made to in corporate the economic theory of uncertainty into the stochastic theory of opera tions research. Methods of optimal decision rules illustrated he re are applicable in three broad areas: (a) applied economic models in resource allocation and economic planning, (b) operations research models involving portfolio analysis and stochastic linear programming and © systems science models in stochastic control and adaptive behavior.

Opportunistic Fungi, Nematode and Plant Interactions Interplay and Mechanisms
Free Download Opportunistic Fungi, Nematode and Plant Interactions: Interplay and Mechanisms by Mohd. Sayeed Akhtar
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 226 Pages | ISBN : 9819720443 | 9.8 MB
This book covers the fundamental and applied characteristics of opportunistic (OP) fungi, plant parasitic nematodes (PPN), and plant interactions. Fungal behavior and cultivation, physiological and molecular changes in relation to hosts and pathogens, and the mechanistic aspects of their management strategies are also covered in this volume. In the diverse agro-climatic conditions of the world, PPN has been identified as the most damaging pest to a variety of commercial and agro-important crop plants. Various chemical nematicides have been widely employed to treat nematode infection in recent decades, but use of these chemicals has been restricted due to widespread concerns about human health and environmental safety. In this regard, rhizospheric microorganisms can act as a first line of defense against pathogen attacks on the root and play a critical role in the management of plant diseases caused by PPN. The OP might directly parasitize the PPN by secreting metabolic chemicals that affect the viability of one or more phases of the nematode's life cycle.

English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 496 Pages | ISBN : 9819701376 | 224.6 MB
The book comprehensively covers three aspects of diagnostic tests in eye care. It lays equal emphasis on the technology associated with the ophthalmic tests, on appropriate techniques to maximize the input and the clinical applications for comprehensive understanding and usage of ophthalmic diagnostic tests. The book also includes many newer diagnostic devices not described earlier such as teleophthalmology, homecare, and smartphone-based ophthalmic diagnostics.

Operator Algebras and Quantum Statistical Mechanics
Free Download Operator Algebras and Quantum Statistical Mechanics: Volume 1: C*- and W*- Algebras. Symmetry Groups. Decomposition of States by Ola Bratteli , Derek W. Robinson
English | PDF | 1979 | 503 Pages | ISBN : N/A | 36 MB
In this book we describe the elementary theory of operator algebras and parts of the advanced theory which are of relevance, or potentially of relevance, to mathematical physics. Subsequently we describe various applications to quantum statistical mechanics. At the outset of this project we intended to cover this material in one volume but in the course of develop ment it was realized that this would entail the omission of various interesting topics or details. Consequently the book was split into two volumes, the first devoted to the general theory of operator algebras and the second to the applications. This splitting into theory and applications is conventional but somewhat arbitrary. In the last 15-20 years mathematical physicists have realized the importance of operator algebras and their states and automorphisms for problems offield theory and statistical mechanics. But the theory of 20 years ago was largely developed for the analysis of group representations and it was inadequate for many physical applications. Thus after a short honey moon period in which the new found tools of the extant theory were applied to the most amenable problems a longer and more interesting period ensued in which mathematical physicists were forced to redevelop the theory in relevant directions. New concepts were introduced, e. g. asymptotic abelian ness and KMS states, new techniques applied, e. g. the Choquet theory of barycentric decomposition for states, and new structural results obtained, e. g. the existence of a continuum of nonisomorphic type-three factors.

Operator Algebras and Applications
Free Download Operator Algebras and Applications by Aristides Katavolos
English | PDF | 1997 | 470 Pages | ISBN : 0792346254 | 38.1 MB
During the last few years, the theory of operator algebras, particularly non-self-adjoint operator algebras, has evolved dramatically, experiencing both international growth and interfacing with other important areas. The present volume presents a survey of some of the latest developments in the field in a form that is detailed enough to be accessible to advanced graduate students as well as researchers in the field.

Openness and Coordination
Free Download Openness and Coordination: National Economies of the U.S., Japan, and Germany in a Globalized World by Hyeong-ki Kwon
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 310 Pages | ISBN : 9819733510 | 7 MB
This book documents various patterns of re-constructing national economies in corporate globalization. As international competition toughens, major national corporations have been forced to reorganize themselves beyond their national boundaries in order to survive. The problem is that a serious tension arises between these national corporations' self-interests and the overall interests of their national economies. Contrary to neoliberal optimism and nationalist pessimism, globalization does not lead to natural upgrade or denationalization. This book examines how three nations, including the free-market liberal U.S., the statist model of Japan, and the social coordination model of Germany, have reconstituted their national economies.

Open Questions in Quantum Physics Invited Papers on the Foundations of Microphysics
Free Download Open Questions in Quantum Physics: Invited Papers on the Foundations of Microphysics by Gino Tarozzi, Alwyn Merwe
English | PDF | 1985 | 421 Pages | ISBN : 9027718539 | 33.8 MB
Due to its extraordinary predictive power and the great generality of its mathematical structure, quantum theory is able, at least in principle, to describe all the microscopic and macroscopic properties of the physical world, from the subatomic to the cosmological level. Nevertheless, ever since the Copen hagen and Gottingen schools in 1927 gave it the definitive formu lation, now commonly known as the orthodox interpretation, the theory has suffered from very serious logical and epistemologi cal problems. These shortcomings were immediately pointed out by some of the principal founders themselves of quantum theory, to wit, Planck, Einstein, Ehrenfest, Schrodinger, and de Broglie, and by the philosopher Karl Popper, who assumed a position of radical criticism with regard to the standard formulation of the theory. The aim of the participants in the workshop on Open Questions in Quantum Physics, which was held in Bari (Italy), in the Department of Physics of the University, during May 1983 and whose Proceedings are collected in the present volume, accord ingly was to discuss the formal, the physical and the epistemo logical difficulties of quantum theory in the light of recent crucial developments and to propose some possible resolutions of three basic conceptual dilemmas, which are posed respectively ~: (a) the physical developments of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen argument and Bell's theorem, i. e.
