A Course in Robust Control Theory A Convex Approach
Free Download A Course in Robust Control Theory: A Convex Approach by Geir E. Dullerud , Fernando Paganini
English | PDF | 2000 | 427 Pages | ISBN : 0387989455 | 34.9 MB
Research in robust control theory has been one of the most active areas of mainstream systems theory since the late 70s. This research activity has been at the confluence of dynamical systems theory, functional analysis, matrix analysis, numerical methods, complexity theory, and engineering applications. The discipline has involved interactions between diverse research groups including pure mathematicians, applied mathematicians, computer scientists and engineers. This research effort has produced a rather extensive set of approaches using a wide variety of mathematical techniques, and applications of robust control theory are spreading to areas as diverse as control of fluids, power networks, and the investigation of feddback mechanisms in biology. During the 90's the theory has seen major advances and achieved a new maturity, centered around the notion of convexity. The goal of this book is to give a graduate-level course on robust control theory that emphasizes these new developments, but at the same time conveys the main principles and ubiquitous tools at the heart of the subject. Its pedagogical objectives are to introduce a coherent and unified framework for studying robust control theory, to provide students with the control-theoretic background required to read and contribute to the research literature, and to present the main ideas and demonstrations of the major results of robust control theory. The book will be of value to mathematical researchers and computer scientists wishing to learn about robust control theory, graduate students planning to do research in the area, and engineering practitioners requiring advanced control techniques.

A Course in Computational Algebraic Number Theory
Free Download A Course in Computational Algebraic Number Theory by Henri Cohen
English | PDF | 1993 | 556 Pages | ISBN : 3540556400 | 50.2 MB
With the advent of powerful computing tools and numerous advances in math ematics, computer science and cryptography, algorithmic number theory has become an important subject in its own right. Both external and internal pressures gave a powerful impetus to the development of more powerful al gorithms. These in turn led to a large number of spectacular breakthroughs. To mention but a few, the LLL algorithm which has a wide range of appli cations, including real world applications to integer programming, primality testing and factoring algorithms, sub-exponential class group and regulator algorithms, etc ... Several books exist which treat parts of this subject. (It is essentially impossible for an author to keep up with the rapid pace of progress in all areas of this subject.) Each book emphasizes a different area, corresponding to the author's tastes and interests. The most famous, but unfortunately the oldest, is Knuth's Art of Computer Programming, especially Chapter 4. The present book has two goals. First, to give a reasonably comprehensive introductory course in computational number theory. In particular, although we study some subjects in great detail, others are only mentioned, but with suitable pointers to the literature. Hence, we hope that this book can serve as a first course on the subject. A natural sequel would be to study more specialized subjects in the existing literature.

A Concise History of Byzantium
Free Download A Concise History of Byzantium by Warren Treadgold
English | PDF | 2001 | 284 Pages | ISBN : 0333718305 | 124.3 MB
Between AD 285, when Byzantium first separated from the Western Roman Empire, and 1461, when the last Byzantine splinter state disappeared, the Byzantine state and society underwent many crises, triumphs, declines and recoveries. Spanning twelve centuries and three continents, the Byzantine empire linked the ancient and modern worlds, shaping and transmitting Greek, Roman and Christian traditions - including the Greek classics, Roman law and Christian theology - that remain vigorous today, not only in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, but through western civilisation.

A Conceptual History of Psychophysics Ernst Weber's Law of Desire
Free Download A Conceptual History of Psychophysics: Ernst Weber's Law of Desire by Nicola Bruno
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 79 Pages | ISBN : 3031665961 | 3.6 MB
This book explores the concept of psychophysics and details the development of the ideas which made the mathematisation of desire possible. The experience of desire accompanies us all throughout life, but dealing with it as psychologists and scientists is far from easy. Psychophysics was conceived to help map, mathematically, these unknowable feelings of desire. As such, this book will help to provide an accessible account of psychophysics while telling the story of its creation, which was, in essence, the birth of scientific psychology and contemporary cognitive neuroscience, alongside many of the technologies which characterize the contemporary world. It is a strange and intriguing story, which begins with the German physiologist Ernst Heinrich Weber in the first half of the nineteenth century, and its story will help the reader gain fresh insight into how scientists came to be able to map and quantify complex and private emotional states.

A Comprehensive Textbook of Classical Mathematics A Contemporary Interpretation
Free Download A Comprehensive Textbook of Classical Mathematics: A Contemporary Interpretation by H. B. Griffiths , P. J. Hilton
English | PDF | 1970 | 663 Pages | ISBN : 0387903429 | 56.1 MB
arithmetic of the integers, linear algebra, an introduction to group theory, the theory of polynomial functions and polynomial equations, and some Boolean algebra. It could be supplemented, of course, by material from other chapters. Again, Course 5 (Calculus) aiscusses the differential and integral calculus more or less from the beginnings of these theories, and proceeds through functions of several real variables, functions of a complex variable, and topics of real analysis such as the implicit function theorem. We would, however, like to make a further point with regard to the appropriateness of our text in course work. We emphasized in the Introduction to the original edition that, in the main, we had in mind the reader who had already met the topics once and wished to review them in the light of his (or her) increased knowledge and mathematical maturity. We therefore believe that our book could form a suitable basis for American graduate courses in the mathematical sciences, especially those prerequisites for a Master's degree.

A Beginner's Guide to Finite Mathematics For Business, Management, and the Social Sciences
Free Download A Beginner's Guide to Finite Mathematics: For Business, Management, and the Social Sciences by W. D. Wallis
English | PDF (True) | 2004 | 363 Pages | ISBN : 0817642706 | 6.6 MB
When elementary courses in discrete and combinatorial mathematics first became popular, they usually covered a broad spectrumofpure and applied topics. Most of the students were in Mathematics and Computer Science, with a handful ofbrave souls from other disciplines. Those other students usually found the courses quite difficult. However, the applications were useful in a numberofareas. The teaching of discrete topics has evolved into two streams. The more math ematical parts are studied in courses called Discrete Mathematics, and more ad vanced, more rigorous courses called Combinatorics, or named for specific areas (Graph Theory, Combinatorial Designs, Cryptography, and so on). Introductions to those areas of applicable discrete mathematics used by students in business, management and the social sciences are usually called Finite Mathematics, and e1ementary courses on this material are now standard at many colleges and uni versities. These courses are typically offered at the freshman level although many students take them later in their careers.
