Oxygen Transport to Tissue XXVI
Free Download Oxygen Transport to Tissue XXVI By Gregory Schears, Jennifer Creed, Tatiana Zaitseva (auth.), Paul Okunieff, Jacqueline Williams, Yuhchyau Chen (eds.)
2005 | 407 Pages | ISBN: 038725062X | PDF | 22 MB
The International Society of Oxygen Transport to Tissue (ISOTT) was founded in 1973 to provide a forum for bioengineers, basic scientists, physiologists, and physicians to discuss new data, original theories, new interpretations of old data, and new technologies for the measurement of oxygen. At each annual meeting all posters are presented orally along with plenary lectures, and all presentations are given in a general session attended by everyone. Each meeting has had a specific focus, ranging from neonatology to physical chemistry to cancer biology. The Society has helped to build many careers, through opportunities to meet leaders in the field, and through awards made to young physicians and scientists. The Society also, through cross fertilization of ideas and scientific comradery, has inspired many breakthroughs in clinical medicine that now benefit mankind. I find myself president of the society after having been a winner of the Melvin Knisely Award for young scientists, in 1991. The 2003 meeting emphasized the role of oxygen and oxygen measurement in tumor growth, metastasis, physiology, and treatment resistance. Additionally, however, completely novel approaches to measurement of tissue oxygen were presented (notably work by Dr. Takahashi) and molecular methods for estimating tissue oxygen were evaluated. Papers discussing other aspects of oxygen measurement and pathophysiology were presented including in vivo ESR spectroscopy (notably including Dr. Swartz and colleagues), exercise physiology, organ transplant outcome (discussed by Dr. Cicco, our 2004 president), circulatory physiology, and cerebral oxygenation (notably including Dr. Chance).

Overwhelmed Coping with Life's Ups and Downs
Free Download Nancy K. Schlossberg, "Overwhelmed: Coping with Life's Ups and Downs"
English | 2007 | pages: 216 | ISBN: 1590771265 | EPUB | 2,6 mb
Overwhelmed helps people make sense out of the transitions they face in every day life. This book is based on years of research―studies of people moving, adults returning to school, people whose jobs were eliminated, retirment, non-events like not having a baby, not getting promoted. These studies resulted in the development of a generic framework for understanding any type of transition. Based on this research, Overwhelmed presents a step-by-step approach to turning overwhelming transitions into challenging experiences. By systemically sizing up transitions and one's resources for dealing with them, people can learn how to build on their strengths, cut their losses, and even grow in the process.

Overcoming Historical Injustices Land Reconciliation in South Africa
Free Download Overcoming Historical Injustices: Land Reconciliation in South Africa By James L. Gibson
2009 | 328 Pages | ISBN: 0521517885 | PDF | 4 MB
Overcoming Historical Land Injustices in South Africa is the last entry in Gibson's "overcoming trilogy" on South Africa's transformation from apartheid to democracy. Focusing on the issue of historical land dispossessions - the taking of African land under colonialism and apartheid - this book investigates the judgments South Africans make about the fairness of their country's past. Should, for instance, land seized under apartheid be returned today to its rightful owner? Gibson's research zeroes in on group identities and attachments as the thread that connects people to the past. Even when individuals have experienced no direct harm in the past, they care about the fairness of the treatment of their group to the extent that they identify with that group. Gibson's analysis shows that land issues in contemporary South Africa are salient, volatile, and enshrouded in symbols and, most important, that interracial differences in understandings of the past and preferences for the future are profound.

Overcoming Fears of Intimacy and Commitment Relationship Insights for Men and the Women in Their Lives
Free Download Herb Goldberg, "Overcoming Fears of Intimacy and Commitment: Relationship Insights for Men and the Women in Their Lives"
English | ISBN: 1442266848 | 2016 | 308 pages | EPUB | 846 KB
Romantic relationships can be difficult, but to browse the shelves for advice, readers are mostly introduced to the woman's viewpoint and concerns. Seldom do books address the innermost thoughts, feelings, fears, and concerns of men in relationships. Through the use of in-depth psychological insights, noted author-psychologist Herb Goldberg, takes the reader through twelve phases of romantic relationships. From the initial excitement to the time when things fall apart, he explores the "gender undertow," prescribes remedies, and describes the healthy relationship from both perspectives, offering tips and advice for both men and women. Taking his starting point from the perspective of men in relationships, Goldberg lays out the concerns many men have - from fears of intimacy to the recognition that one's partner may not be perfect. Addressing the most common problems that may stem from these relationship troubles, he guides readers through the fears and troubles that may arise and offers cogent advice in an effort to bring men and women together in healthier and more intimate unions.

Overcoming Conflicting Loyalties Intimate Partner Violence, Community Resources, and Faith
Free Download Irene Sevcik, "Overcoming Conflicting Loyalties: Intimate Partner Violence, Community Resources, and Faith"
English | ISBN: 1772120502 | 2015 | 296 pages | EPUB | 573 KB
To date, little has been published about the place of spirituality in working with survivors of intimate partner violence. Overcoming Conflicting Loyalties examines the intersection of faith and culture in the lives of religious and ethno-cultural women in the context of the work of FaithLink, a unique community initiative that encourages religious leaders and secular service providers to work together. The authors present the benefits of such cooperation by reporting the findings of three qualitative research studies. Individuals in secular and sacral services who work with victims of domestic violence, as well as academics in the fields of social work, psychology, and religious studies, will benefit from the insights, depth of experience, and range of voices represented in this valuable book.
