One Hundred Years of Argonauts Malinowski, Ethnography and Economic Anthropology
Free Download Chris Hann, "One Hundred Years of Argonauts: Malinowski, Ethnography and Economic Anthropology "
English | ISBN: 1805395211 | 2024 | 362 pages | PDF | 3 MB
Malinowski's Argonauts of the Western Pacific was a major contribution to anthropological theory and method, while simultaneously establishing the sub-field of economic anthropology. Even a century after its publication, Malinowski's pioneering work remains critical for anthropology in a postcolonial age. This volume uses ethnographic studies from around the world to contextualize the work politically and intellectually, examining its gestation and influence from multiple perspectives. It critically explores the meaning of "economy" for Malinowski from his formation in the Austro-Hungarian Empire to his path-breaking fieldwork in Melanesia and ensuing career in London.

A chapter called "My Kind of Snack" includes quail eggs with flavored salt; speckled sushi rice with toasted nori; polenta pizza with crumbled sage; raw beet tartare; and mackerel rillettes. The recipes in "Vegetables to Envy" range from a South Indian dish of cabbage with black mustard seeds to French grandmother-style vegetables. Grace Kelly was swept away when the handsome Prince Rainier, a man she barely knew, asked for her hand in marriage. After a series of relationships with married co-stars she was exhausted by the showbusiness lifestyle. If she married Rainier she would be more than just a movie star, she would be Her Serene Highness Princess Grace. Trapped in a fairytale of her own making, Grace was forced to make sacrifices that cut deeply into the core of who she was as a woman, surrendering her desires and ambitions for her spouse and her children. Grace and Rainier may have been royalty but they were also husband and wife, and parents - and, as such, just as vulnerable to the conflicts that can contaminate any household.

Once Upon a Secret My Affair with President John F. Kennedy and Its Aftermath
Free Download Once Upon a Secret: My Affair with President John F. Kennedy and Its Aftermath By Mimi Alford
2012 | 208 Pages | ISBN: 1400069106 | EPUB | 3 MB
In the summer of 1962, nineteen-year-old Mimi Beardsley arrived by train in Washington, D.C., to begin an internship in the White House press office. The Kennedy Administration had reinvigorated the capital and the country-and Mimi was eager to contribute. For a young woman from a privileged but sheltered upbringing, the job was the chance of a lifetime. Although she started as a lowly intern, Mimi made an impression on Kennedy's inner circle and, after just three days at the White House, she was presented to the President himself. Almost immediately, the two began an affair that would continue for the next eighteen months. In an era when women in the workplace were still considered "girls," Mimi was literally a girl herself-naïve, innocent, emotionally unprepared for the thrill that came when the President's charisma and power were turned on her full-force. She was also unprepared for the feelings of isolation that would follow as she fell into the double life of a college student who was also the secret lover of the most powerful man in the world. Then, after the President's tragic death in Dallas, she grieved in private, locked her secret away, and tried to start her life anew, only to find that her past would cast a long shadow-and ultimately destroy her relationship with the man she married. In 2003, a Kennedy biographer mentioned "a tall, slender, beautiful nineteen-year-old college sophomore and White House intern, who worked in the press office" in reference to one of the President's affairs. The disclosure set off a tabloid frenzy and soon exposed Mimi and the secret that she had kept for forty-one years. Because her past had been revealed in such a shocking, public way, she was forced, for the first time, to examine the choices she'd made. She came to understand that shutting down one part of her life so completely had closed her off from so much more. No longer defined by silence or shame, Mimi Alford has finally unburdened herself with this searingly honest account of her life and her extremely private moments with a very public man. Once Upon a Secret offers a new and personal depiction of one of our most iconic leaders and a powerful, moving story of a woman coming to terms with her past and moving out of the shadows to reclaim the truth.

1997 | 720 Pages | ISBN: 0521560713 | PDF | 40 MB
On the Road to Total War is a collection of essays that attempts to trace the roots and development of total industrialized warfare (which terrorizes citizens and soliders alike). International scholars focus on the social, political, economic, and cultural aspects and on the societal impacts of the American Civil War and the German Wars of Unification. Mass mobilization of people and resources and growing nationalism led to this totalization of war in nineteenth-century industrialized nations.

On the Pulsar
Free Download On the Pulsar By B. B. Kadomsev
2009 | 148 Pages | ISBN: 9814289728 | PDF | 4 MB
This book serves as a good introduction to the physics of pulsars by explaining the subject matter in simple terms which are understandable to both undergraduate physics students and also the general public. On the Pulsar links together ideas about physics, informatics and biology, and contains many original examples, problems and solutions. It starts with simple examples about the regular structures that are possible in strong magnetic fields and the author then suggests that special conditions on the pulsar can result in some forms of self-organization. It will also make a valuable teaching guide.

English | 2009 | pages: 982 | ISBN: 3642052894 | PDF | 19,1 mb
Internet-based information systems, the second covering the large-scale in- gration of heterogeneous computing systems and data resources with the aim of providing a global computing space. Eachofthesefourconferencesencouragesresearcherstotreattheirrespective topics within a framework that incorporates jointly (a) theory, (b) conceptual design and development, and © applications, in particular case studies and industrial solutions. Following and expanding the model created in 2003, we again solicited and selected quality workshop proposals to complement the more "archival" nature of the main conferences with research results in a number of selected and more "avant-garde" areas related to the general topic of Web-based distributed c- puting. For instance, the so-called Semantic Web has given rise to several novel research areas combining linguistics, information systems technology, and ar- ?cial intelligence, such as the modeling of (legal) regulatory systems and the ubiquitous nature of their usage. We were glad to see that ten of our earlier s- cessful workshops (ADI, CAMS, EI2N, SWWS, ORM, OnToContent, MONET, SEMELS, COMBEK, IWSSA) re-appeared in 2008 with a second, third or even ?fth edition, sometimes by alliance with other newly emerging workshops, and that no fewer than three brand-new independent workshops could be selected from proposals and hosted: ISDE, ODIS and Beyond SAWSDL. Workshop - diences productively mingled with each other and with those of the main c- ferences, and there was considerable overlap in authors.
