Night Duel Over Germany Bomber Command's Battle Over the Reich During WWII
Free Download Peter Jacobs - Night Duel Over Germany: Bomber Command's Battle Over the Reich During WWII
Pen & Sword | 2011 | ISBN: 1783463376 | English | 256 pages | PDF | 87.43 MB
Bomber Command's night offensive against Nazi Germany, which lasted for nearly six years, was one of Britain's major contributions to the allied effort during the Second World War. But the decision to conduct its main operations at night only come about following heavy losses by day, when its pre-war medium bombers had been found lacking in modern air warfare. The Luftwaffe, too, had its early problems. Initially without a dedicated night fighter, it was ill-equipped to defend the Reich, and so the stage was set for what would become one of the most critical strategic encounters of the war. Things had to change on both sides. Soon there came new and more capable aircraft, in ever-increasing numbers, coupled with new tactics and technology, as each side strove to gain the upper hand. It became a fascinating encounter between the crews of Bomber Command and the Luftwaffe's night fighter force, the Nachtjagd, with no shortage of courage and heavy losses on both sides.Amongst the epic encounters were Bomber Command's Thousand Bomber raids, the attack on the German V-weapons research establishment at Peenemunde, the campaigns against the industrial Ruhr, Hamburg and Berlin, and the disastrous raid on Nuremberg. This new publication consolidates accounts from both sides and from all ranks of service in an effort to provide a comprehensive account of some of the most ferocious nocturnal engagements of the Second World War.

Nietzsche Thus Spoke Zarathustra
Free Download Robert Pippin, Adrian Del Caro, "Nietzsche: Thus Spoke Zarathustra"
English | 2006 | pages: 318 | ISBN: 0521602610, 0521841712 | PDF | 1,4 mb
Nietzsche regarded 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra' as his most important work, and his story of the wandering Zarathustra has had enormous influence on subsequent culture. Nietzsche uses a mixture of homilies, parables, epigrams and dreams to introduce some of his most striking doctrines, including the Overman, nihilism, and the eternal return of the same. This edition offers a new translation by Adrian Del Caro which restores the original versification of Nietzsche's text and captures its poetic brilliance. Robert Pippin's introduction discusses many of the most important interpretative issues raised by the work, including who is Zarathustra and what kind of 'hero' is he and what is the philosophical significance of the work's literary form? The volume will appeal to all readers interested in one of the most original and inventive works of modern philosophy.

From the first New Poetries anthology, published in 1994, through to this sixth volume, the series has showcased the work of some of the most exciting and interesting new poets writing in English from around the world, many of whom have subsequently gone on to achieve notable success: Sophie Hannah, Vona Groarke, Patrick McGuinness, Kei Miller, Caroline Bird, David Morley, Jane Yeh, William Letford, Tara Bergin, and many others. Crucially, the New Poetries anthologies have never sought to identify a school, much less a generation: the poets included employ a wide range of styles, forms, and approaches, and "new" need not be taken to imply "young." New Perspectives on the 'civil Wars' in Medieval Scandinavia
Free Download Kim Esmark, "New Perspectives on the 'civil Wars' in Medieval Scandinavia "
English | ISBN: 2503601502 | 2024 | 448 pages | PDF | 5 MB
In the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, Scandinavia was rocked by an ongoing period of 'civil war', conflicts traditionally characterized by medieval historians as internal struggles that took place in the context of predominantly national, state-centred political and constitutional frameworks. This volume, however, aims to overturn these established narratives, with carefully curated essays written by experts in the field offering a new pan-Scandinavian perspective on the period in question that emphasizes the importance of fluid, often overlapping social networks, permeable borders between realms, and constant underlying hostilities between rival groups. Through detailed examinations of pivotal moments in Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish history, together with analyses of topographical patterns, gender issues, diplomacy, and three contributions that draw parallels within similar conflicts outside of Scandinavia, this book provides an important corrective to teleological narratives of the medieval 'civil wars' as a necessary stage on the route to state formation and modernity.

New Materialist Literary Theory Critical Conceptions of Literature for the Anthropocene
Free Download Kerstin Howaldt University of Erfurt, "New Materialist Literary Theory: Critical Conceptions of Literature for the Anthropocene "
English | ISBN: 1666929123 | 2024 | 244 pages | EPUB, PDF | 2 MB + 2 MB
This edited collection builds on recent strands in philosophy that promote a critical conceptual return to the material world outside human culture. Through the lens of literary analysis and theory, it conceptualizes the potential of New Materialism as a timely mode of critique toward the current human condition and its effect on literature and the present. Organized around the key New Materialist concepts of entanglement and speculation, the chapters by renowned literary scholars and theorists approach literary texts and theory from onto-epistemological and speculative realist perspectives. Both concepts critically bespeak our precarious relation to matter during the Anthropocene. Entanglement analyzes this human inference with the material environment and its consequences, while speculation makes palpable our cognitive limits in grasping these consequences and our continued obligation to try to do so. Literature emerges as a site where entanglement and speculation, as well as their alignment, are intensively presented and negotiated. In highlighting these connections, the chapters in this collection bring entanglement and speculation (theory) together to form a critical literary theory fit for the Anthropocene.
