Free Download Innovative Accreditation Standards in Education and Training: The Italian Experience in Ethical Standards and the Impact on Business Organisation By Pietro Previtali (auth.)
2015 | 122 Pages | ISBN: 3319169157 | PDF | 4 MB
The aim of this book is to examine how technical and institutional factors affect the responsiveness of public and private organisations to a change in accreditation standards, with specific reference to the vocational educational and training (VET) sector and ethical standards. In particular, the authors analyse the Italian experience regarding a new accreditation standard recently adopted in the Region of Lombardy. Although based on a national experience, this innovative approach to accreditation systems in the educational sector provides a more general framework of analysis of how ethics and compliance can be applied in business organisation worldwide.

Innovations in Robot Mobility and Control
Free Download Innovations in Robot Mobility and Control By Srikanta Patnaik, Lakhmi C. Jain, Spyros G. Tzafestas, Germano Resconi, Amit Konar
2006 | 306 Pages | ISBN: 3540268928 | PDF | 4 MB
There exists quite a vast literature on mobile robots, covering fundamental principles on motion control and path-planning in indoor environments using ultrasonic/laser transducers. However, there is a scarcity of books/collective documents on vision based navigation of mobile robots and multi-agent systems. The book fills this gap and attempts to develop interesting models for vision based map building in indoor and outdoor environments, precise motion control, navigation in dynamic environment, and above all multi-agent co-operation of robots. The most important aspect of this book is that the principles and models introduced in the text are all field-tested, and thus can readily be used in solving real world problems, such as factory automation, disposal of nuclear wastes, landmine clearing and computerized surgery. Primarily meant for graduate students and researchers in robotics, the book is equally useful to interested audience of any discipline for its contents and simplicity in presentation style.

But more importantly, the volume projects these developments forward and in addition forecasts and analyses likely future inventions and innovations and how LIS leaders and managers should not only respond but actually help to create and shape our future world.Written and edited by Professor David Baker and Wendy Evans, the volume will include contributions from: Dr Chris Batt; Dr Masanori Koizumi; Dr Tibor Koltay; Professor Derek Law; Dr Mike McGrath; Dr Bruce Massis; Chloe Mills; John Robinson; Dr Lara Skelly; Professor Jo Smedley; Dr Evgenia Vassilakaki; Dr Graham Walton.

Free Download Innovation for sustainable aviation in a global environment: Proceedings of the sixth European Aeronautics Days, Madrid, 30 March-1 April 2011 By Dietrich Knörzer, Joachim Szodruch (editors)
2012 | 504 Pages | ISBN: 161499062X | PDF | 23 MB
Jointly organised by the European Commission and the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology in Spain (CDTI), the Aeronautics Days sixth edition - 'Aerodays 2011' - was held on 30th - 31st March and 1st April 2011 in the Palacio Municipal de Congresos of Madrid. It brought together 1400 delegates - policy makers, aerospace manufacturers, engineers, researchers and customers - to report and discuss the challenges and solutions for creating greener, safer, secure and competitive solutions for aeronautics and air transport in Europe.Highlights included 'Flightpath 2050', Europe's vision for future aviation. The present book, published by the European Commission, brings together about 80 papers selected by a Scientific Advisory Committee with the intention to make broadly known the main themes and issues addressed on the occasion of this Convention.Given the strategic importance of the latter, these post-conference proceedings constitute a reference document providing an overview on aeronautical research within Europe more particularly devoted to Commission supported programmes and networks.

Innovation and Institutional Embeddedness of Multinational Companies
Free Download Innovation and Institutional Embeddedness of Multinational Companies By Martin Heidenreich, Martin Heidenreich
2012 | 384 Pages | ISBN: 0857934325 | PDF | 4 MB
Multinational companies are crucial actors in a global knowledge-based economy, combining the advantages of global and locally coordinated production and innovation strategies with specific regional and national factors. This book questions how MNCs can best exploit institutionally embedded knowledge, explores the utilization of external institutionally embedded knowledge in corporate innovation processes, and addresses the challenges of embeddedness. The expert contributors draw on managerial, economic, geographic and sociological perspectives to explore the essential roles of regional and national knowledge infrastructures and the cultural and political environment of MNCs. They build upon, update, and extend the discussion on the regional and national embeddedness of MNCs with new country case studies and comparative analyses, focusing on the relationship between innovation in companies and regional studies. Significantly, the book also establishes a link between two important debates that have hitherto been largely disconnected: regional studies and international business studies separately address issues that fall within the scope of the book, but do not provide an integrated analysis of the embeddedness of MNCs. This path-breaking book goes some way to fill this gap in the literature and as such, will prove invaluable to academics, R&D managers, regional policy makers and students with an interest in international business, business economics, regional studies and organization studies. Innovation Governance in an Open Economy Shaping Regional Nodes in a Globalized World
Free Download Innovation Governance in an Open Economy: Shaping Regional Nodes in a Globalized World By Annika Rickne, Staffan Laestadius, Henry Etzkowitz
2012 | 324 Pages | ISBN: 0415504937 | PDF | 4 MB
In an increasingly globalised world, paradoxically regional innovation clusters have moved to the forefront of attention as a strategy for economic and social development. Transcending international success cases, like Silicon Valley and Route 128, as sources of lessons, successful high tech clusters in niche areas have had a significant impact on peripheral regions. Are these successful innovation clusters born or made? If they are subject to planning and direction, what is the shape that it takes: top down, bottom up or lateral?

Inner Speech – L2 Thinking Words in a Second Language
Free Download Inner Speech - L2: Thinking Words in a Second Language By María C.M. de Guerrero (auth.)
2005 | 252 Pages | ISBN: 0387245774 | PDF | 17 MB
The purpose of this book is to explore "inner speech" and its connections to second language (L2) learning. Inner speech, or silent self-directed speaking, enables the faculty to "think" words and is the main instrument for verbal thought. Inner speech originates in first language (L1) social discourse and develops in childhood through a process of internalization. In this book it is postulated that, given certain conditions of L2 learning, it is possible to develop L2 inner speech as a result of the interiorization of L2 social speech. Inner speech has been quite extensively investigated from an L1 perspective. The L2 acquisition field, however, has been slow in acknowledging the importance of inner speech in learning another language. Although within the past decade there have been some notable efforts to explore the topic from an L2 point of view, these efforts have remained in the form of isolated articles and short sections in larger volumes. This book reviews the extant literature on L1-L2 inner speech in its attempt to offer a coherent and comprehensive account of the phenomenon. The book draws mainly from Vygotskyan sociocultural theory for insights into the nature of L2 inner speech and the processes that engender it and characterize its development. The pedagogical implications of recognizing the crucial role inner speech plays in L2 learning are also addressed. Inner Speech - L2 comprises a discussion of the historical and theoretical foundations of the concept of inner speech; a review of studies related to L1 and L2 inner speech and its methodology of research; an interpretive account of the origin, nature, and development of L2 inner speech from a sociocultural theory point of view; and various pedagogical implications and suggestions for further research.
