U–108 at War (Images of War)
Free Download Alistair Smith - U-108 at War (Images of War)
Pen & Sword | 2012 | ISBN: 1848846673 | English | 164 pages | PDF | 152.24 MB
The photos in this book are taken from an unpublished album belonged to a member of the crew of f. These good quality photos show every aspect life aboard before, during and after a typical mission into the Atlantic. There are stunning shots of the sinking of Allied shipping and the rescue of their crews (Against Hitler's orders!). Rarely seen below-deck views show just how cramped the living and working conditions were in a submerged craft. Shots from the conning tower in mid-ocean demonstrate the vile sea conditions that the vessels were forced to endure, from gigantic seas to frozen decks and equipment. The comradeship of the close-knit crew is expressed in shots showing how the men's domestic chores were performed in the confined space of these small craft miles from the nearest land. It is most unusual to have such a comprehensive photographic record of a U-boat on active service since so few survived the war intact.

Täterschaft in der Gedenkstättenpädagogik Empirische Rekonstruktion der Auseinandersetzung von Schülerinnen und Schülern
Free Download Karl-Hermann Rechberg, "Täterschaft in der Gedenkstättenpädagogik: Empirische Rekonstruktion der Auseinandersetzung von Schülerinnen und Schülern"
Deutsch | 2019 | pages: 295 | ISBN: 3658276630 | PDF | 3,3 mb

Two Times Intro On the Road with Patti Smith
Free Download Michael Stipe, "Two Times Intro: On the Road with Patti Smith"
English | 2011 | pages: 128 | ISBN: 1617750239, 0316815721 | EPUB | 10,8 mb
"In Stipe's startling photographs and 12 brief written homages, Patti Smith is depicted as a down-to-earth goddess, a part of and apart from her evolving entourage of musicians, artists, poets (Allen Ginsberg makes an appearance), and friends. This isn't a traditional book of portraits . . . The overwhelming mood is one of disjunction, claustrophobia, exhaustion, temporariness-and the effect is raw and intimate . . . And [Stipe] is no longer the "dork nerd" teenager, but a fellow musician - and from his proud, caring mien, even a protector."

Two Cultures The Significance of C. P. Snow
Free Download F. R. Leavis, "Two Cultures?: The Significance of C. P. Snow "
English | ISBN: 1107617359 | 2013 | 121 pages | AZW3 | 181 KB
In this first annotated edition of F. R. Leavis' famous critique of C. P. Snow's influential argument about 'the two cultures', Stefan Collini reappraises both its literary tactics and its purpose as cultural criticism. The edition will enable new generations of readers to understand what was at stake in the dispute and to appreciate the enduring relevance of Leavis's attack on the goal of economic growth. In his comprehensive introduction Collini situates Leavis's critique within the wider context of debates about 'modernity' and 'prosperity', not just the 'two cultures' of literature and science. Collini emphasizes the difficulties faced by the cultural critic in challenging widely-held views and offers an illuminating analysis of Leavis's style. The edition provides full notes to references and allusions in Leavis's texts.

Twentieth–Century Organ Music
Free Download Twentieth-Century Organ Music By Christopher S. Anderson
2011 | 368 Pages | ISBN: 0415875668 | PDF | 7 MB
This volume explores twentieth-century organ music through in-depth studies of the principal centers of composition, the most significant composers and their works, and the evolving role of the instrument and its music. The twentieth-century was a time of unprecedented change for organ music, not only in its composition and performance but also in the standards of instrument design and building. Organ music was anything but immune to the complex musical, intellectual, and socio-political climate of the time. Twentieth-Century Organ Music examines the organ's repertory from the entire period, contextualizing it against the background of important social and cultural trends. In a collection of twelve essays, experienced scholars survey the dominant geographic centers of organ music (France, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, the United States, and German-speaking countries) and investigate the composers who made important contributions to the repertory (Reger in Germany, Messiaen in France, Ligeti in Eastern and Central Europe, Howells in Great Britain). Twentieth-Century Organ Music provides a fresh vantage point from which to view one of the twentieth century's most diverse and engaging musical spheres.

Turkey's State Crisis Institutions, Reform, and Conflict
Free Download Bülent Aras, "Turkey's State Crisis: Institutions, Reform, and Conflict "
English | ISBN: 0815637489 | 2022 | 176 pages | AZW3 | 4 MB
What accounts for the regression of Turkey's stature from a "model" country to one riddled with state crisis and conflict? Unable to adapt to the challenges of the era and failing to respond to ethnic and multicultural political demands for reform, the Turkish state has resisted change and stuck to its ideological roots stemming from the 1930s. In Turkey's State Crisis, Aras delves into the historical, political, and geopolitical background of the country's decline. In an effort to delineate the origin of the crisis, Aras investigates several perspectives: the political elites' attempt to change the administrative system to create a performance-oriented one; the bureaucracy's response, concerns, and resistance to change; the state's conflict resolution capacity; and the transformation of foreign/security policy. Providing a comprehensive portrait of the Turkish state's turmoil, Aras creates a blueprint for the ways in which much-needed reforms can break vicious cycles of political polarization, rising authoritarianism, and weak state institutions.
