Biased Technical Change and Economic Conservation Laws
Free Download Biased Technical Change and Economic Conservation Laws By Ryuzo Sato (auth.)
2006 | 230 Pages | ISBN: 0387260552 | PDF | 2 MB
The principal aim of BIASED TECHNICAL CHANGE AND ECONOMIC CONSERVATION LAWS is twofold: to reveal the new economic significance of the old concept of biased technical change and the current application of the new concept of economic conservation laws.Although terms such as "labor saving" and "capital saving" fall under the category of biased technical change, the first of these topics, no model exists in which biased technical change gives rise endogenously to technical progress. A special feature of this book is its thorough investigation and analysis of these issues, which go far beyond existing studies in this area. The concept of economic conservation laws dates back to Ramsey's classic study of 1928. This book primarily makes use of Lie groups to shed new light on the analysis of economic conservation laws. Economic conservation laws are not simply abstract concepts; this book shows that they are tools of empirical analysis that can be applied to such topics as analyses of macro performance and corporate efficiency.

Beyond the Stars Our Origins and the Search for Life in The Universe
Free Download Beyond the Stars: Our Origins and the Search for Life in The Universe By Paolo Saraceno, Translated by : David Goodstein
2012 | 388 Pages | ISBN: 9814295531 | PDF | 11 MB
What is the origin of the universe? Are we alone in the Universe? Using clear and plain language, the author explores these two interesting scientific-philosophical themes with a broad range of studies, including astronomy, cosmology, chemistry, biology, geology and planet science. The first part discusses the origins of everything, from the Big Bang to humankind. It follows the long course of evolution from original matter to the formation of more complex structures, from the furthest galaxies to the nearest stars, from planets to organic molecules, from the first and most elementary forms of life through to the reptiles, the dinosaurs and the advent of man. The second part traces the history of the Earth and evaluates the risks of extinction in the future as predicted by scientists. Is the Earth the only habitable planet in the Universe? This question initiates the discussion on the importance of the Earth's position in the solar system and the significance of our geologically alive planet. The final part is dedicated to the search for extraterrestrial beings with identifiable life forms. It also describes attempts for searching, from the past to the near future. This remarkable book provides the best answers we have to the epic questions about us and our place in the universe. Readership: General audience interested in general science.

Beyond the Black Box Talk–In–Interaction in the Airline Cockpit
Free Download Beyond the Black Box: Talk-In-Interaction in the Airline Cockpit By Maurice Nevile
2004 | 245 Pages | ISBN: 0754642402 | PDF | 31 MB
This is the first and only study of the interaction between pilots in the cockpit of commercial aircraft. It examines, in close detail, the communication that pilots engage in with one another and with other parties, such as traffic controllers, as they perform the routine tasks involved in flying an aircraft. It also makes an important contribution to literature on work and language by addressing one of the most highly technological settings there is: the aircraft cockpit. Using data taken from audio and video recordings of pilots talking in aircraft cockpits, it draws on the analytical approaches of ethnomethodology and conversation analysis to analyse their task-related communications. It shows that although the tasks performed by pilots may be 'routine', the communications in and through which they are managed are artful accomplishments. Through the shaping of their talk, the pilots manage its indexical and situated properties in effective and skilled ways. In so doing they accomplish in their moment-by-moment interaction the required features of the pilot's work in the cockpit.

Beyond The Whiteness of Whiteness Memoir of a White Mother of Black Sons
Free Download Beyond The Whiteness of Whiteness: Memoir of a White Mother of Black Sons By Jane Lazarre
1996 | 168 Pages | ISBN: 0822318261 | PDF | 10 MB
"I am Black," Jane Lazarre's son tells her. "I have a Jewish mother, but I am not 'biracial.' That term is meaningless to me." She understands, she says-but he tells her, gently, that he doesn't think so, that she can't understand this completely because she is white. Beyond the Whiteness of Whiteness is Jane Lazarre's memoir of coming to terms with this painful truth, of learning to look into the nature of whiteness in a way that passionately informs the connections between herself and her family. A moving account of life in a biracial family, this book is a powerful meditation on motherhood and racism in America, the story of an education into the realities of African American culture.Lazarre has spent over twenty-five years living in a Black American family, married to an African American man, birthing and raising two sons. A teacher of African American literature, she has been influenced by an autobiographical tradition that is characterized by a speaking out against racism and a grounding of that expression in one's own experience-an overlapping of the stories of one's own life and the world. Like the stories of that tradition, Lazarre's is a recovery of memories that come together in this book with a new sense of meaning. From a crucial moment in which consciousness is transformed, to recalling and accepting the nature and realities of whiteness, each step describes an aspect of her internal and intellectual journey. Recalling events that opened her eyes to her sons' and husband's experience as Black Americans-an operation, turned into a horrific nightmare by a doctor's unconscious racism or the jarring truths brought home by a visit to an exhibit on slavery at the Richmond Museum of the Confederacy-or her own revealing missteps, Lazarre describes a movement from silence to voice, to a commitment to action, and to an appreciation of the value of a fluid, even ambiguous, identity. It is a coming of age that permits a final retelling of family history and family reunion. With her skill as a novelist and her experience as a teacher, Jane Lazarre has crafted a narrative as compelling as it is telling. It eloquently describes the author's delight at being accepted into her husband's family and attests to the power of motherhood. And as personal as this story is, it is a remarkably incisive account of how perceptions of racial difference lie at the heart of the history and culture of America.
