World Literature After Empire Rethinking Universality in the Long Cold War
Free Download Pieter Vanhove, "World Literature After Empire: Rethinking Universality in the Long Cold War "
English | ISBN: 103204456X | 2023 | 212 pages | PDF | 11 MB
This book makes the case that the idea of a "world" in the cultural and philosophical sense is not an exclusively Western phenomenon. During the Cold War and in the wake of decolonization a plethora of historical attempts were made to reinvent the notions of world literature, world art, and philosophical universality from an anticolonial perspective. Contributing to recent debates on world literature, the postcolonial, and translatability, the book presents a series of interdisciplinary and multilingual case studies spanning Europe, the United States, and China. The case studies illustrate how individual anti-imperialist writers and artists set out to remake the conception of the world in their own image by offering a different perspective centered on questions of race, gender, sexuality, global inequality, and class. The book also discusses how international cultural organizations like the Afro-Asian Writers' Bureau, UNESCO, and PEN International attempted to shape this debate across Cold War divides.

World Encyclopaedia of Modern Air Weapons
Free Download Christopher Chant - World Encyclopaedia of Modern Air Weapons
Patrick Stephens Ltd | 1988 | ISBN: 1852600284 | English | 320 pages | PDF | 218.86 MB
This book, and much of the information it contains, are now out of date. Many of the weapons described within (particularly older AAMs) have now been retired, some of them have had their true performance statistics severely refined in the wake of the fall of the Iron Curtain (many scribbles will be needed in the margins), and there are a lot of gaps which National Security concerns probably never allowed to be filled and maybe never will. Not just that, but many current weapons were mere gleams in the eyes of their inventors when it came out.

World Accumulation 1492–1789
Free Download World Accumulation 1492-1789 By Andre Gunder Frank
2008 | 304 Pages | ISBN: 0875862047 | PDF | 4 MB
This book studies the effects of cyclical fluctuations in the process of capital accumulation - the sixteenth-century expansion, the seventeenth-century depression, the cyclical swings between the Glorious Revolution in England in 1688 and the Peace of Paris in 1763, the Depression and the American, French, and Industrial Revolutions between 1762 and 1789. Frank connects the downswings or crises in accumulation to the changing leadership positions as they shifted from Italy to Spain and Portugal and then to Holland and Britain. He devotes particular attention to the successive incorporation into the single world system of Asia, Africa, and the Americas, whose economies and societies were transformed to contribute to the accumulation of capital in Western Europe and later in North America through exploitation, dependence, and unequal exchange.

Working in Class Recognizing How Social Class Shapes Our Academic Work
Free Download Allison L. Hurst, "Working in Class: Recognizing How Social Class Shapes Our Academic Work"
English | ISBN: 1475822529 | 2016 | 220 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
More students today are financing college through debt, but the burdens of debt are not equally shared. The least privileged students are those most encumbered and the least able to repay. All of this has implications for those who work in academia, especially those who are themselves from less advantaged backgrounds. Warnock argues that it is difficult to reconcile the goals of facilitating upward mobility for students from similar backgrounds while being aware that the goals of many colleges and universities stand in contrast to the recruitment and support of these students. This, combined with the fact that campuses are increasingly reliant on adjunct labor, makes it difficult for the contemporary tenure-track or tenured working-class academic to reconcile his or her position in the academy.
