Free Download Hindol Sengupta, "Recasting India: How Entrepreneurship is Revolutionizing the World's Largest Democracy" English | ISBN: 1137279613 | 2014 | 256 pages | AZW3 | 740 KB Twenty years after India opened its economy, it faces severe economic problems, including staggering income inequality. A third of its citizens still lack adequate food, education, and basic medical services, while Mumbai businessman Mukesh Ambani lives in the most expensive home in the world, which cost over a billion dollars to build. Despite the fact that India now has a Mars mission, there are still more mobile phones than toilets in the country. In most places, such a disparity would have the locals pounding at the gates. So why no Arab Spring for India? Free Download Monica MacDonald, "Recasting History: How CBC Television Has Shaped Canada's Past" English | ISBN: 0773556311 | 2019 | 288 pages | AZW3 | 4 MB Since 1952, CBC television has played a unique role as the primary mass media purveyor of Canadian history. Yet until now, there have been no comprehensive accounts of Canadian history on television. Monica MacDonald takes us behind the scenes of the major documentaries and docudramas broadcast on the CBC, including in Explorations (1956-64) and the series Images of Canada (1972-76), The National Dream (1974), The Valour and the Horror (1992), and Canada: A People's History (2000-02). Drawing on a wide range of sources, MacDonald explores how producers struggled to represent the Canadian past under a range of external and internal pressures. Despite dramatic shifts in the writing of history over this period, she determines that television themes and interpretations largely remained the same. The greater change was in the production and presentation, particularly in the role of professional historians, as journalists emerged not only as the new producers of Canadian history on CBC television, but also as the new content authorities. A critique of public history through the lens of political economy, Recasting History reveals the conflicts, compromises, and controversies that have shaped the CBC version of the Canadian past.

Free Download John T Kuehn, "Reasons for the Success of the Sixth Coalition Against Napoleon in 1813" English | 2012 | ISBN: 1249285348 | EPUB | pages: 136 | 0.4 mb This study investigates the reasons for the success of the Sixth Coalition against Napoleon in 1813. Four critical principles emerge from U.S. joint doctrine that provide a means to examine coalition warfare: national goals, unity of effort, strategic plans, and adherence to plans. These principles illuminate the importance of coalition warfare in the defeat of Napoleon. The failure of an earlier coalition, the Second Coalition in 1799, underscores the importance of the principles of coalition warfare to the success or failure of the coalitions against Napoleon and the French. This coalition failed because of its lack of attention to the details of coalition warfare. Its basic flaw, lack of a common coalition goal, undermined its unity and resulted in defeat. The development of a common goal, the liberation of Germany, combined with the decline of the French and reforms by Napoleon's opponents led to a level playing field in 1813. The 1813 spring campaign resulted in a stalemate. The coalition used the subsequent armistice to further improve both politically and militarily. These improvements, particularly the adoption of a unified military strategy, resulted in improved unity of effort and provided the Sixth Coalition the margin for ultimate victory. |
