Introduction to Wireless Networking and Its Impact on Applications (Synthesis Lectures on Mobile & Pervasive Computing)
Free Download Introduction to Wireless Networking and Its Impact on Applications (Synthesis Lectures on Mobile & Pervasive Computing) by Peter Steenkiste
English | March 25, 2023 | ISBN: 3031274652 | 135 pages | MOBI | 7.76 Mb
This book teaches readers how wireless networks work, why some of their properties impact wireless network performance at the application level, and what both network engineers and application developers can do to cope with these challenges. Internet users increasingly rely on wireless access links for diverse tasks such as web browsing, video conferencing, interactive games, and data sharing. Irrespective of how they access the Internet, they expect good performance and a high quality of experience. Unfortunately, wireless access networks are much more challenging to build than wired networks. In wired networks, signals used for communication are contained in a carefully engineered transmission medium. In contrast, wireless signals travel in our physical environment, where the presence of obstacles, interference, and mobility can affect communication. In addition, network performance can differ significantly across physical environments. As a result, the performance of wireless links is often lower and less predictable than that of wired links. The author structured the book according to the layers in the Internet protocol stack, similar to traditional network books. However, rather than presenting a general description of each layer, the focus is on wireless networks and how they differ from wired networks.

Introduction to Water in California
Free Download David Carle, "Introduction to Water in California"
English | 2004 | ISBN: 0520235800, 0520240863 | PDF | pages: 279 | 13.9 mb
It takes 8 gallons of water to grow a tomato; 616 gallons to make a burger patty. In fact, the food each of us consumes per day represents an investment of 4,500 gallons of water, according to the California Farm Bureau. In this densely populated state where it rains only six months out of the year, where does all that water come from? This thoroughly engaging, concise book tells the story of California's most precious resource, tracing the journey of water in the state from the atmosphere to the snowpack to our faucets and foods. Along the way, we learn much about California itself as the book describes its rivers, lakes, wetlands, dams, and aqueducts and discusses the role of water in agriculture, the environment, and politics. Essential reading for a state facing the future with an already overextended water supply, this fascinating book shows that, for all Californians, every drop counts.

Introduction to Ultrafast Phenomena From Femtosecond Magnetism to High–Harmonic Generation
Free Download Introduction to Ultrafast Phenomena: From Femtosecond Magnetism to High-Harmonic Generation by Guo-ping Zhang, Georgios Lefkidis, Mitsuko Murakami
English | December 9, 2020 | ISBN: 1498764282 | 300 pages | MOBI | 24 Mb
This book, the first of this kind, provides a comprehensive introduction to ultrafast phenomena, covering the fundamentals of ultrafast spin and charge dynamics, femtosecond magnetism, all-optical spin switching, and high-harmonic generation. It covers the experimental tools, including ultrafast pump-probe experiments, and theoretical methods including quantum chemistry and density functional theory, both time-independent and time-dependent. The authors explain in clear language how an ultrafast laser pulse is generated experimentally, how it can induce rapid responses in electrons and spins in molecules, nanostructures and solids (magnetic materials and superconductors), and how it can create high-harmonic generation from atoms and solids on the attosecond timescale. They also show how this field is driving the next generation of magnetic storage devices through femtomagnetism, all-optical spin switching in ferrimagnets and beyond, magnetic logic in magnetic molecules, and ultrafast intense light sources, incorporating numerous computer programs, examples, and problems throughout, to show how the beautiful research can be done behind the scene.

Introduction to Social Work An Advocacy–Based Profession
Free Download Lisa E. Cox, "Introduction to Social Work: An Advocacy-Based Profession "
English | ISBN: 1071839810 | 2021 | 680 pages | PDF | 71 MB
The award-winning Introduction to Social Work: An Advocacy-Based Profession takes students on an exploration of what social work is, what it was historically, and how to be an effective advocate as a social worker moving forward. Built on a unique advocacy practice and policy model comprised of four components―economic and social justice, a supportive environment, human needs and rights, and political access―the book provides a crucial lens for viewing today's social issues. Best-selling authors Lisa E. Cox, Carolyn J. Tice, and Dennis D. Long emphasize advocacy throughout all sectors of social work, with a focus on environmental, international, and military social work. The Third Edition closely aligns with the latest Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS) from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); references the 2018 Code of Ethics from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW); and includes profound discussions of societal impacts on areas of public health, policy, juvenile justice, race, inequality, social movements, and self-care.

Introduction to Probability and Random Variables
Free Download Introduction to Probability and Random Variables by Orhan Gazi
English | May 28, 2023 | ISBN: 3031318153 | 245 pages | MOBI | 35 Mb
This textbook provides a straightforward, clear explanation of probability and random variables for communications engineering students. The author focuses on the most essential subjects of probability and random variables, eliminating unnecessary details of this difficult subject. After an introduction to the topic, the author covers the essentials of experiments, sample spaces, events, and probability laws, while investigating how they relate to communications engineering work. He goes on to discuss total probability theorems, after which he covers discrete random variables and continuous random variables. The author uses his years of teaching probability and random variable concepts to engineering students to form the text in a very understandable manner. The book features exercises, examples, case studies, and other key classroom materials

Introduction to Payments and Financial Market Infrastructures (Springer Texts in Business and Economics)
Free Download Introduction to Payments and Financial Market Infrastructures (Springer Texts in Business and Economics) by Ulrich Bindseil, George Pantelopoulos
English | October 29, 2023 | ISBN: 3031395190 | 164 pages | MOBI | 5.87 Mb
Payments and financial market infrastructures are vital components of modern economies, yet they have often been overlooked by economists. However, any economic exchange, including financial market transactions, is matched by a payment leg, and the safety, efficiency, and immediacy of the payment, and the problem of linking the two legs of the transaction ("delivery-vs-payment"), remain universal challenges. The consequences of inefficiencies or interruptions in payment and settlement systems have immediate and significant impacts on the real economy. Moreover, payments and financial market infrastructures are also a matter of strategic importance for nation-states, and being excessively dependent on foreign providers has been proven to be a significant risk, as they can be "weaponized."
