Free Download Rachel Dwyer, "Cinema India: The Visual Culture of Hindi Film" English | 2002 | ISBN: 0813531756, 1861891245, 0813531748 | PDF | pages: 244 | 19.1 mb As the largest producer of films in the world, Indian cinema is both a major industry and a distinctive art form that permeates daily life in that country and shapes emerging global cultures elsewhere. While much has been written on the history of Indian cinema, its iconography and aesthetics have yet to be analyzed as reflections of national and cultural identities. In this important new work, Rachel Dwyer and Divia Patel focus on the development of Bombay-based commercial cinema since 1913, exploring the symbolic role of settings and costumes in staging the nation and the function of makeup and hairstyles in defining notions of beauty, sexuality, and consumption. The authors also examine how factors such as ethnicity, modernization, and Westernization impact reception of film along caste, region, language, and religious lines. Free Download Gordon Gray, "Cinema: A Visual Anthropology" English | 2010 | pages: 187 | ISBN: 1845207939, 1845207947 | PDF | 2,5 mb Cinema: A Visual Anthropology provides a clear and concise summary of the key ideas, debates, and texts of the most important approaches to the study of fiction film from around the world. The book examines ways to address film and film experience beyond the study of the audience. Cross-disciplinary in scope, Cinema uses ideas and approaches both from within and outside of anthropology to further students' knowledge of and interest in fiction film. Including selected, globally based case studies to highlight and exemplify important issues, the book also contains suggested Further Reading for each chapter, for students to expand their learning independently. Exploring fundamental methods and approaches to engage this most interesting and vibrant of media, Cinema will be essential reading for students of anthropology and film. Free Download Chemistry, Revised Edition: Notable Research and Discoveries by Kyle Kirkland English | May 1, 2020 | ISBN: 8887252912 | 208 pages | EPUB | 4.86 Mb Chemistry, Revised Edition takes a deep dive with scientists and explorers into the unknown frontiers of chemistry, and uncovers materials that exhibit remarkable or useful properties. Some of these materials consist of large molecules that can cure diseases, while others comprise motors or machines so small they are made of only a few atoms. In learning about the essential properties of materials, students learn how chemists are working to solve global issues, such as the rapid depletion of nonrenewable resources in our environment. This title offers students valuable insight into the methods and applications of chemistry, and how this field can make sense of and improve our way of life. Chapters Free Download Chemistry in Your Everyday Life (Real World Science) by Ph.D. Rybolt, Thomas R. English | July 30, 2019 | ISBN: 1978507658 | PDF | 8.39 Mb How do soaps and detergents clean? Why do metals conduct electricity? How does burning fossil fuel contribute to global warming? The answers to these questions are found by examining the properties and behaviors of atoms and molecules. Insightful explanations and hands-on science activities simplify complicated chemistry principles into pieces of information that are more easily grasped. Sidebars include discussions on animals that can live thirty years without water, the Maillard reaction responsible for the taste and texture of french fries, the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and how tires provide a cushion of air to smooth our rides. This book allows students to appreciate that when it comes to understanding the world around us, tiny molecules can provide big explanations.
Free Download Characterizing Multiparticle Entanglement Using the Schmidt Decomposition of Operators (BestMasters) by Sophia Denker English | January 4, 2024 | ISBN: 3658432020 | 112 pages | MOBI | 11 Mb Characterizing entanglement is an important issue in quantum information, as it is considered to be a resource for many applications such as quantum key distribution or quantum metrology. One useful tool to detect and quantify entanglement are witness operators. A standard way to construct them is based on the fidelity of pure states and mathematically relies on the Schmidt decomposition of vectors. In this book a method to build entanglement witnesses using the Schmidt decomposition of operators is presented. One can show that these are strictly stronger than the fidelity witnesses. Moreover, the concept can be generalized easily to the multipartite case, and one may use it to quantify the dimensionality of entanglement. Finally, this scheme will be used to provide two algorithms that can be combined to improve given witnesses for multiparticle entanglement.
Free Download Institute of Medicine, "Characterizing Exposure of Veterans to Agent Orange and Other Herbicides Used in Vietnam: Interim Findings and Recommendations" English | 2003 | pages: 37 | ISBN: 0309089433 | PDF | 1,3 mb From 1962 to 1971, US military forces sprayed more than 19 million gallons of herbicides over Vietnam to strip the thick jungle canopy that helped conceal opposition forces, to destroy crops that enemy forces might depend on, and to clear tall grass and bushes from around the perimeters of US base camps and outlying fire-support bases. Most large-scale spraying operations were conducted from airplanes and helicopters, but herbicides were also sprayed from boats and ground vehicles, and by soldiers wearing back-mounted equipment. After a scientific report concluded that a contaminant of one of the primary chemicals used in the herbicide called Agent Orange could cause birth defects in laboratory animals, US forces suspended use of the herbicide; they subsequently halted all herbicide spraying in Vietnam in 1971. |
