English | ISBN: 178491875X | 2018 | 200 pages | PDF | 23 MB
From the Archaeological Record to Virtual Reconstruction' describes the use of New Information Technologies (IT) for the analyses and interpretation of archaeological record of the San Chuis Hillfort (San Martín de Beduledo, Allande, Asturias, Spain). The data gathered during the eight excavation campaigns conducted by Francisco Jordá Cerdá in the sixties and eighties of the 20th century was mechanised and digitalised. Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) of the hillfort was performed, followed by a creation of spatial analysis through the establishment of relations between the elements of the archaeological record. At the end, having studied and investigated the site's urban evolution throughout its occupation period (890 cal. BP - 530 cal. AD), a virtual reconstruction of the hillfort in its different settlement phases, presenting various evolution scenarios, is presented. In the process a work methodology and a set of computer applications adapted for each step of this process have been estableshed, such as insertion of data records in a database, planimetry drawings, hillfort virtualization, etc.

English | ISBN: 1783096551 | 2016 | 304 pages | PDF | 4 MB
The contributors to this volume have collaborated to present their work on introducing competences in intercultural communication and citizenship into foreign language education. The book examines how learners and teachers think about citizenship and interculturality, and shows how teachers and researchers from primary to university education can work together across continents to develop new curricula and pedagogy. This involves the creation of a new theory of intercultural citizenship and a procedure for implementation. The book is written by teacher researchers who aim to help other teachers, and concludes with reflections on the lessons they have learnt which will help others to implement these ideas in their own practice. The book is essential reading for foreign language educators and researchers, students in pre-service teacher training and teachers in in-service training.

English | 2013 | ISBN: 9042927313 | PDF | pages: 228 | 7.2 mb
This present volume is dedicated to Gawdat Gabra, the former director of the Coptic Museum in Cairo and now Professor of Coptology at the University of Claremont in the USA. Dr. Gabra is one of the pioneers of Coptic studies in modern times and the author and editor of many valuable and highly regarded monographs, series and articles. Although the papers in this volume do not have a single theme, all of them share an interest and focus on one topic: Egypt. They cover many fields in Coptology and Egyptology, such as art, Biblical studies, liturgy, Copto-Arabic studies and archaeology. They present the results of recent academic research and archaeological excavations. The seventeen contributors to this volume belong to three continents and work in seven countries all over the world, but all of them appreciate the long-time efforts of Gawdat Gabra for Coptic studies on an academic level as well as his indefatigable labour to make laymen aware of Coptic Egypt.

Free Download Francoise Bostyn, "From Mine to User: Production and Procurement Systems of Siliceous Rocks in the European Neolithic and Bronze Age: Proce"
English | ISBN: 1789697115 | 2021 | 150 pages | PDF | 11 MB
From Mine to User: Production and Procurement Systems of Siliceous Rocks in the European Neolithic and Bronze Age presents the papers from Session XXXIII of the 18th UISPP World Congress (Paris, June 2018). 23 authors contribute nine papers from Parts 1 and 2 of the Session. The first session 'Siliceous rocks: procurement and distribution systems' was aimed at analysing one of the central research issues related to mining, i.e. the production systems and the diffusion of mining products. The impact of extraction on the environment, group mobility and the numbers involved in the exploitation phase were considered; mining products were also examined with a view to identifying local and imported/exported products and the underlying social organization relating to the different fields of activity. The second session 'Flint mines and chipping floors from prehistory to the beginning of the nineteenth century' focused on knapping activities. The significance of the identification of knapping workshops in the immediate vicinity of mine shafts and of their presence in villages as well as in intermediary places between the two was considered in the analysis of chaîne opératoire sequences. The potential of product quality and artefact distribution to contribute to the understanding of the social organisation of the communities being studied was also examined.

From Hydrology to Hydroarchaeology in the Ancient Mediterranean
Free Download Sophie Bouffier, "From Hydrology to Hydroarchaeology in the Ancient Mediterranean"
English | ISBN: 1803273747 | 2022 | 160 pages | PDF | 51 MB
From Hydrology to Hydroarchaeology in the Ancient Mediterranean: An interdisciplinary approach is devoted to the study of water management in ancient cities. It compares the approaches and methods adopted by researchers from different disciplinary sectors to identify the water conditions of past societies and to highlight the measures they have taken to adapt to their water resources. Deriving from an interdisciplinary meeting held in Aix-en-Provence (Mediterranean House of Human Sciences) in 2019, it brings together seven articles that present the innovative results of collaborations between archaeologists and environmental scientists, geologists, geomorphologists, and climatologists in particular. After an introduction that situates the discussions conducted in Aix-en-Provence within the framework of the Watertraces project, funded by the A*Midex foundation (Aix-Marseille University), most of the articles focus on the Sicilian situation. An initial synthesis covers all aspects of the question, followed by four case studies ranging from the 4th century BC to the 1st century AD. Case studies on Agrigento, Termini Imerese/Thermai Himerenses, Alesa/Halaesa, Solunte and Tyndaris are presented. The focus then moves to southern Italy (the Terme di Baia), and to Aegean Greece (the sanctuary at Delphi).
