Parameters of Slavic Aspect A Cognitive Approach
Free Download Stephen M. Dickey, "Parameters of Slavic Aspect: A Cognitive Approach"
English | 2000 | ISBN: 1575862352, 1575862360 | PDF | pages: 164 | 20.6 mb
Dickey divides the Slavic languages into two aspectual groups, an eastern and a western group, as well as a transitional zone between the two. This book shows the semantic meaning of aspect in these groups, analyzed within the framework of cognitive grammar. Dickey offers the first comparative analysis of Slavic aspect treating more than two languages, and the first book-length cognitive linguistic analysis of Slavic aspect. He establishes seven parameters of variation in aspectual usage: repetition, the simple denotation of past actions, the historical present, stage directions and other instructions, performatives and other cases of the coincidence of utterance and action, the imperfective in sequences of actions, and the derivation of verbal nouns. These parameters are used as a basis for dividing the Slavic languages into the western group of Czech, Slovak, Slovene, Sorbian, the eastern group of Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, and the transitional zone of Serbo-Croatian and Polish.

Parables on a Roman Comic Stage Samarites – Comoedia De Samaritano Evangelico Together With the Commentary of Alexius
Free Download Daniel J Nodes, "Parables on a Roman Comic Stage: Samarites - Comoedia De Samaritano Evangelico: Together With the Commentary of Alexius "
English | ISBN: 9004317872 | 2017 | 375 pages | PDF | 4 MB
The Samarites by Petrus Papeus offers an effective blending of gospel narrative and ancient Roman comedy, combining manner of Plautus and Terence with the didacticism of medieval allegory and morality plays and the poetic diction of Renaissance humanism. In the Samarites they are the ingredients that present both moral and doctrinal teachings related to the gospel parables of the Prodigal Son and Good Samaritan. Papeus' work is an excellent example not only of the early modern school play, but also of the shifting conceptions of drama in Europe at that time. Daniel Nodes presents a critical edition and translation of the play together with a humanist commentary produced in Toledo by Alexius Vanegas three years after the play's first printing in Antwerp.

Free Download Edward Herring, "Papers in Italian Archaeology VII: The Archaeology of Death: Proceedings of the Seventh Conference of Italian Archaeolog"
English | ISBN: 1784919217 | 2018 | 630 pages | PDF | 26 MB
The Archaeology of Death: Proceedings of the Seventh Conference of Italian Archaeology' held at the National University of Ireland, Galway, April 16-18, 2016 includes more than 60 papers, with contributors from the British Isles, Italy and other parts of continental Europe, and North and South America, which consider recent developments in Italian archaeology from the Neolithic to the modern period. Each region of Italy is represented, with specific sections of the volume devoted to Etruria, South Italy, and Sicily. Other sections have a chronological focus, including Italian Prehistory, the Roman period, and Post Antiquity. Following the primary theme of the meeting, the majority of papers revolve around the archaeology of death; numerous contributions analyse the cultural significance of death through examinations of funerary rituals and mortuary practices, while others analyse burial data for evidence of wider social and political change. Various papers consider new and recent discoveries in Italian archaeology, while others ask fresh questions of older datasets. In addition, a number of contributions showcase their employment of new methodologies deriving from technological innovations. The volume opens with a dedicatory section to mark the achievements of the Accordia Research Institute, and to celebrate the careers of two of its founders, Ruth Whitehouse and John Wilkins.

Palästina – Hundert Jahre leere Versprechen Geschichte eines Weltkonflikts
Free Download Tariq Dana, Nur Arafeh, Vijay Prashad, "Palästina - Hundert Jahre leere Versprechen: Geschichte eines Weltkonflikts"
Deutsch | 2017 | ISBN: 3853714277 | EPUB | pages: 208 | 2.4 mb

Palestinians in Israel Segregation, Discrimination and Democracy
Free Download Ben White, "Palestinians in Israel: Segregation, Discrimination and Democracy"
English | ISBN: 0745332293 | 2012 | 152 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Palestinians in Israel considers a key issue ignored by the official "peace process" and most mainstream commentators: that of the growing Palestinian minority within Israel itself. What the Israeli right-wing calls "the demographic problem," Ben White identifies as "the democratic problem," which goes to the heart of the conflict. Israel defines itself not as a state of its citizens, but as a Jewish state, despite the substantial and increasing Palestinian population. White demonstrates how the consistent emphasis on privileging one ethno-religious group over another cannot be seen as compatible with democratic values and that, unless addressed, will undermine any attempts to find a lasting peace. Individual case studies are used to complement this deeply informed study into the great, unspoken contradiction of Israeli democracy. It is a pioneering contribution which will spark debate among all those concerned with a resolution to the Israel/Palestine conflict.

Paleoart and Materiality The Scientific Study of Rock Art
Free Download Robert G. Bednarik, "Paleoart and Materiality: The Scientific Study of Rock Art"
English | ISBN: 1784914290 | 2016 | 256 pages | PDF | 14 MB
This book contains a series of selected papers presented at two symposia entitled 'Scientific study of rock art', one held in the IFRAO Congress of Rock Art in La Paz, Bolivia, in June 2012, the other held in the IFRAO Congress in Cáceres, Spain, in September 2015; as well as some invited papers from leading rock art scientists. The core topic of the book is the presentation of scientific approaches to the materiality of rock art, ranging from recording and sampling methods to data analyses. These share the fact that they provide means of testing hypotheses and/or of finding trends in the data which can be used as independent sources of evidence to support specific interpretations. The issue of the materiality of visual productions of the distant past, which in archaeological theory has attracted much attention recently and has stimulated much conceptual debate, is addressed through a variety of scientific approaches, including fieldwork methods, laboratory work techniques and/or data analysis protocols. These, in turn, will provide new insights into human agency and people-image engagements through the study of rock art production, display and use.

Painting in Renaissance Florence, 1500–1550
Free Download Dr. David Franklin, "Painting in Renaissance Florence, 1500-1550"
English | ISBN: 0300083998 | 2001 | 272 pages | PDF | 33 MB
This outstanding book overturns longstanding assumptions about the way art evolved in Renaissance Florence. David Franklin challenges the reliability and usefulness of the terms "High Renaissance" and "Mannerism," which have been used commonly to describe and define the extraordinary paintings of the Florentine Renaissance. Franklin offers instead a new perspective on the progress and development of art in Florence, structuring his discussion around the lives and works of twelve influential Italian painters of the era. The book provides a detailed account of the critical period from about 1500, when Leonardo returned to Florence, to the publication in 1550 of Vasari's first edition of the Lives of the Artists. With penetrating analyses of careers, influences, and specific paintings, Franklin isolates two main strands in Renaissance Florentine painting. He brings to light the passionate rivalry between a deeply localized attitude toward art exemplified by Michelangelo and Leonardo and climaxing in the work of Pontormo, and a style influenced by the Roman art of Raphael that Vasari tried with some success to import into Florence. For the former group, life drawing and expressive human form were at the heart of their enterprise, while for the latter it was superficial narrative arranged for decorative effect. Franklin's unprecedented examination of Vasari's work as a painter in relation to his vastly better-known writings fully illuminates these dual strands in Florentine art and offers us a clearer understanding of sixteenth- century painting in Florence than ever before. The volume focuses on twelve painters: Perugino, Leonardo da Vinci, Piero di Cosimo, Michelangelo, Fra Bartolomeo, Ridolfo Ghirlandaio, Andrea del Sarto, Franciabigio, Rosso Fiorentino, Jacopo da Pontormo, Francesco Salviati, and Giorgio Vasari.
