Free Download South American and Antarctic Continental Cenozoic Birds: Paleobiogeographic Affinities and Disparities By Claudia P. Tambussi, Federico Degrange (auth.) 2013 | 113 Pages | ISBN: 9400754663 | PDF | 5 MB Modern birds (Neornithes) are represented by two big lineages, the Palaeognathae (Tinamiformes + Ratitae) and the Neognathae [Galloanserae + Neoaves (Metaves + Coronoaves)]. Both clades sum approximately 10,000 species of which 60% are Passeriformes (the most diverse clade of terrestrial vertebrates). A comparison between the past and the present reveals a complex and hallmarked evolutionary and biogeographic history which would have begun over 65 million years ago. For South America (SA) this includes: (1) the presence of taxa with uncertain affinities and the absence of Passeriformes during the Paleogene; (2) a progressive and accelerated increase of the species starting at the Neogene (Miocene); (3) important extinct lineages (e.g. Phorusrhacidae, Teratornithidae) that migrate to North America after the rising of the Panamá isthmus; (4) groups with major diversification in the Neogene that survives nowadays represented by scarce species endemic of SA (Cariamidae) or that inhabits mainly in the southern hemisphere (Anhingidae); (5) very diverse living groups with scarce (e.g., Passeriformes) or none (e.g., Apodiformes) fossil record in SA, which stem-groups are registered in Europe. Apparently, the changes in diversity of the south American Neornithes have been the result of successive radiation, biogeographic connections with North America and in a minor scale, some extinctions. The opening of the Drake´s passage and the occurrence of the circumpolar Antarctic flow are not sufficient causes to explain the highly disparity between the weddelians penguins (Sphenisciformes) of Antartica and those of the patagonian Atlantic Ocean. Free Download Sourcing Strategy: Principles, Policy and Designs By Sudhi Seshadri Ph.D. (auth.) 2005 | 320 Pages | ISBN: 0387251820 | PDF | 7 MB Sourcing Strategy is about sourcing as a long term strategic activity. Myopic purchasing management stops short with describing functional procedures and procedural innovations such as online order processing. The goal of this book is not just to document sourcing strategy, but to provide the tools to determine it. Therefore, rather than merely describing common sourcing processes, the book takes a normative approach to sourcing strategy. It argues for a rational, complete and integrated process where managers confront conflicts and dilemmas inherent in sourcing. It supports its recommendations with logical arguments from an interdisciplinary and analytical approach grounded in microeconomics, law and business strategy. Sourcing Strategy fills a gap in the literature between purchasing management and managerial economics. It adopts an accessible treatment that allows even non-technical readers to achieve an in-depth understanding without sacrificing on advanced insights from formal analyses. By applying established as well as new qualitative and analytic concepts to sourcing designs, such as VCG mechanisms for variable quantity awards; discriminatory second price reverse auctions for syndicated bids; signaling equilibrium for resource sharing; and selection risk-incentive risk interactions for R&D-cum-production contracts, this work will be an indispensable guide for those studying B2B marketing, strategic purchasing or supply chain management. Part 1 of the book explains the economic and business principles that underlie sourcing strategies. It derives policies that guide viable strategies to meet sourcing goals. Part 2 applies these to creative designs for standard sourcing scenarios. A user friendly software package is linked to the chapters, with guided exercises as a learning tool. Free Download Sound Writing: Voices, Authors, and Readers of Oral History (Oxford Oral History Series) by Shelley Trower English | 15 Aug. 2023 | ISBN: 0190905999 | True EPUB/PDF | 216 pages | 1/8.4 MB The concept that oral history can give voice to people or allow "hidden voices" to become part of history is one of its most celebrated achievements. However, the standard practice of transcribing or summarizing interviews has meant that oral historians have had to grapple with questions of how to translate the oral into written form. What is lost or gained during this process of mediation? These re-creations can be wonderful and illuminating works of scholarship and art, and this book explores a wide range of the different forms they have taken-from John and Alan Lomax's transcriptions of African American songs for the Federal Writers Project to Svetlana Alexievich's polyphonic novels. Such works can give their subjects the necessary latitude to convey their narratives on their own terms, but there is also, always, the danger that their voices will be distorted or lost during the process of mediation.
