Narratives of Injury
Free Download Rosalyn Buckland, "Narratives of Injury "
English | ISBN: 1032751886 | 2024 | 232 pages | PDF | 14 MB
Narratives of Injury redescribes the history of injury from the perspective of those most at risk, rather than medical professionals and other outsiders. Refocusing on the first-hand perspectives found in literary texts and journalistic accounts, it uncovers a self-conscious tradition of mining stories running through nineteenth-century writing. The book examines both non-canonical authors and famous novelists, including Charles Dickens, Joseph Skipsey, G. A Henty, E. H. Burnett, George Eliot, Edward Tirebuck, H.G. Wells and D. H. Lawrence. Their narratives revise our understanding both of injury and of the radical potential of fiction. Sudden physical injuries have often been configured as fundamentally unknowable by the victims themselves, particularly in studies of nineteenth-century literature and culture. Likewise, narratives of psychological trauma have been largely understood, in Cathy Caruth's words, as the 'attempt to master what was never fully grasped in the first place.' Such readings privilege the reader as a necessary interpreter of physical or psychological injury. By contrast,

Narrative, Film and Identity How Cinema Impacts the Meaning of Life
Free Download William Pamerleau, "Narrative, Film and Identity: How Cinema Impacts the Meaning of Life "
English | ISBN: 9004711074 | 2024 | 204 pages | PDF | 8 MB
Our identities are shaped by narratives, and cinema contributes to that process. While there is substantial scholarship on both narrative identity and film narrative, there is very little investigation of the intersection between them. This book provides that, with particular attention to how the interaction between film narratives and life narratives affect the meaning of life. Traditional issues like spectator activity and realism appear in a different light when viewed through this interaction. It also reveals how film can both help and hinder the meaning of our lives by sustaining oppressive narratives or promoting new narrative possibilities.

Nanoengineered Nanofibrous Materials
Free Download Nanoengineered Nanofibrous Materials By Frank K. Ko, Vladimir Kuznetsov, E. Flahaut (auth.), Selcuk Guceri, Yuri G. Gogotsi, Vladimir Kuznetsov (eds.)
2004 | 543 Pages | ISBN: 1402025483 | PDF | 15 MB
The combination of conductive polymer technology with the ability to produce nanofibres will facilitate major new developments in biotechnology and information technology, benefiting such areas as scaffolds for tissue engineering and drug delivery systems; wires, capacitors, transistors and diodes; sensor technology; biohazard protection; and energy transport, conversion and storage. The work on nanofibrous materials presented here is designed, first of all, to instruct scientists in the most advanced methods for the formation of nanofibres and nanotubes. The second section covers the physics and chemistry of nanofibres, while the third deals with computer simulation and modelling. The applications described in section 4 include biomedical applications, nanotube-based devices, electronic applications of nanotubes and nanofibres, nanofluidics, and composites. Finally, the fifth section discusses recent developments in nanomaterials, nanoparticles and nanostructures.

2004 | 547 Pages | ISBN: 3663108635 | PDF | 17 MB

2003 | 206 Pages | ISBN: 3824478986 | PDF | 22 MB
