The Potential Distribution Theorem and Models of Molecular Solutions
Free Download Tom L. Beck, Michael E. Paulaitis, Lawrence R. Pratt, "The Potential Distribution Theorem and Models of Molecular Solutions"
English | 2006 | pages: 246 | ISBN: 0521822157, 1107411599 | PDF | 1,5 mb
An understanding of statistical thermodynamic molecular theory is fundamental to the appreciation of molecular solutions. This complex subject has been simplified by the authors with down-to-earth presentations of molecular theory. Using the potential distribution theorem (PDT) as the basis, the text provides a discussion of practical theories in conjunction with simulation results. The authors discuss the field in a concise and simple manner, illustrating the text with useful models of solution thermodynamics and numerous exercises. Modern quasi-chemical theories that permit statistical thermodynamic properties to be studied on the basis of electronic structure calculations are given extended development, as is the testing of those theoretical results with ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. The book is intended for students taking up research problems of molecular science in chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, nanotechnology and biotechnology.

The Population of Tikal Implications for Maya Demography
Free Download David Webster, "The Population of Tikal: Implications for Maya Demography "
English | ISBN: 1784918458 | 2018 | 162 pages | PDF | 6 MB
The Classic Maya (AD 250-900) of central and southern Yucatan were long seen as exceptional in many ways. We now know that they did not invent Mesoamerican writing or calendars, that they were just as warlike as other ancient peoples, that many innovations in art and architecture attributed to them had diverse origins, and that their celebrated "collapse" is not what it seems. One exceptionalist claim stubbornly persists: the Maya were canny tropical ecologists who managed their fragile tropical environments in ways that supported extremely large and dense populations and still guaranteed resilience and sustainability. Archaeologists commonly assert that Maya populations far exceeded those of other ancient civilizations in the Old and New Worlds. The great center of Tikal, Guatemala, has been central to our conceptions of Maya demography since the 1960s. Re-evaluation of Tikal's original settlement data and its implications, supplemented by much new research there and elsewhere, allows a more modest and realistic demographic evaluation. The peak Classic population probably was on the order of 1,000,000 people. This population scale helps resolve debates about how the Maya made a living, the nature of their sociopolitical systems, how they created an impressive built environment, and places them in plausible comparative context with what we know about other ancient complex societies.

The Politics of the Past The Representation of the Ancient Empires by Iran's Modern States
Free Download Maryam Dezhamkhooy, "The Politics of the Past: The Representation of the Ancient Empires by Iran's Modern States"
English | ISBN: 1789690935 | 2019 | 162 pages | PDF | 4 MB
Politics of the past: The Representation of the Ancient Empires by Iran's Modern States' examines the highly problematic politics of the past surrounding the archaeology of ancient empires in Iran. Being indigenous, the authors regard the relations between archaeological remains, (negative) heritage, and modern strategies of suppression. The chapters provide a detailed analysis of how the practice of archaeology could be biased and ideologically charged. Discussing their own personal and professional experiences, the authors exemplify the real (ethical) dilemmas that archaeologists confront in the Middle East, calling for reflectivity and awareness among the archaeologists of the region. The text is accompanied by visual deconstruction of ancient rock reliefs to indicate the possibility of alternative histories.

The Politics of Space Security Strategic Restraint and the Pursuit of National Interests, 3rd Edition
Free Download The Politics of Space Security: Strategic Restraint and the Pursuit of National Interests, 3rd Edition by James Clay Moltz
English | April 16, 2019 | ISBN: 150360893X | True EPUB/PDF | 400 pages | 0.9/3.2 MB
For the past sixty years, countries have conducted military and civilian activities in space, often for competitive purposes. But they have not yet fought in this environment. This book examines the international politics of the space age from 1957 to the present, the reasons why strategic restraint emerged among the major military powers, and how recent trends toward weaponization may challenge prior norms of conflict avoidance. James Clay Moltz analyzes the competing demands of national interests in space against the shared interests of all spacefarers in preserving the safe use of space in the face of emerging threats, such as man-made orbital debris.

The Politics of Gen Z How the Youngest Voters Will Shape Our Democracy (PDF)

English | September 3, 2024 | ISBN: 0231213883, 0231213891 | True PDF | 320 pages | 5.9 MB
Progressive activism today is increasingly spearheaded by the nation's youngest voters. Gen Z―those born between 1997 and 2012―has come of age in a decade of upheavals. They have witnessed the election of Donald Trump, the murder of George Floyd, and the Dobbs Supreme Court decision, and they have lived under the constant threats of mass shootings and climate change. In response, left-leaning Zoomers, particularly women and LGBTQ people, have banded together to take action.

The Poetry of Emily Dickinson Philosophical Perspectives
Free Download The Poetry of Emily Dickinson: Philosophical Perspectives (Oxford Studies in Philosophy and Literature) edited by Elisabeth Camp
English | February 1, 2021 | ISBN: 0190651199, 0190651202 | True EPUB | 224 pages | 1.8 MB
One of America's most celebrated poets, Emily Dickinson was virtually unpublished in her lifetime. When a slim volume of her poems emerged on the American scene in 1890, her work created shockwaves that have not subsided yet. Famously precise and sparse, Emily Dickinson's poetry is often described as philosophical, both because her poetry grapples with philosophical topics like death, spirituality, and the darkening operations of the mind, and because she approaches those topics in a characteristically philosophical manner: analyzing and extrapolating from close observation, exploring alternatives, and connecting thoughts into cumulative demonstrations. But unlike Lucretius or Pope, she cannot be accused of producing versified treatises. Many of her poems are unsettling in their lack of conclusion; their disparate insights often stand in conflict; and her logic turns crucially on imagery, juxtaposition, assonance, slant rhyme, and punctuation.
