The European Archaeologist 1 – 21a 1993 – 2004
Free Download Henry Cleere, "The European Archaeologist: 1 - 21a: 1993 - 2004"
English | ISBN: 1784910120 | 2014 | 360 pages | PDF | 48 MB
"This volume gathers together the first 10 years of The European Archaeologist (ISSN 1022-0135), from Winter 1993 through to the 10th Anniversary Conference Issue, published in 2004 for the Lyon Annual Meeting. In reality, like the Journal of European Archaeology, The European Archaeologist (TEA) was born before the official foundation of the EAA at Ljubljana in September 1994, and began publication the year before. The first issue announces the Ljubljana Inaugural Meeting, and documents the work of the International Steering Committee which promoted the Association. Readers can then trace the initial development of their brainchild, from the euphoria of a post-1989 Europe where Archaeologists could at last freely communicate to the consolidation of the Association as a key player in the Archaeology of the continent. Perhaps the most striking thing, reading through these early issues of TEA, is how the central concerns of the EAA, for heritage, commercial and academic archaeology have remained central to its content. This volume is published as the Association meets in Istanbul for its 20th Annual Meeting." -from the preface by Mark Pearce

The Eukaryotic Replisome a Guide to Protein Structure and Function
Free Download The Eukaryotic Replisome: a Guide to Protein Structure and Function By Stuart MacNeill (auth.), Stuart MacNeill (eds.)
2012 | 348 Pages | ISBN: 9400745710 | PDF | 8 MB
High-fidelity chromosomal DNA replication underpins all life on the planet. In humans, there are clear links between chromosome replication defects and genome instability, genetic disease and cancer, making a detailed understanding of the molecular mechanisms of genome duplication vital for future advances in diagnosis and treatment. Building on recent exciting advances in protein structure determination, the book will take the reader on a guided journey through the intricate molecular machinery of eukaryotic chromosome replication and provide an invaluable source of information, ideas and inspiration for all those with an interest in chromosome replication, whether from a basic science, translational biology and medical research perspective.

The Entolomataceae of Tasmania
Free Download The Entolomataceae of Tasmania By Machiel E. Noordeloos, Genevieve M. Gates (auth.)
2012 | 400 Pages | ISBN: 9400746784 | PDF | 21 MB
This book is the result of 14 years of collecting Entolomataceae in the native forests of Tasmania, Australia. Although initially involving only the Tasmanian residents Genevieve Gates and David Ratkowsky, who made twice- or thrice-weekly forays into the forests throughout the year, the project was subsequently joined by agaric specialist Machiel Noordeloos from the Netherlands, and by fungi photographer Michael Pilkington from the United Kingdom. The international character of the project is further evidenced by the earlier contributions of American mycologist Tim Baroni to the Tasmanian Rhodocybe species which form the basis of the chapter on the now-expanded concept of Clitopilus, and a visit of several months in 2010 by Brazilian Ph.D. candidate Fernanda Karstedt, who tested the keys to the Entoloma species. Consequently, several thousand well-annotated collections were found during this inventory and form the basis of this monographic treatment of the Entoloma and Clitopilus of Tasmania. The resulting 90 Entoloma species and 10 Clitopilus species are well documented with standardized descriptions, line drawings of fruit bodies and diagnostic microscopic characters, and, when available, with colour photographs. Thanks to the intensive search, it was possible to illustrate most species in colour. Dichotomous keys facilitate identification of the species. The species concept used is morphologically based; in several cases, however, identification to species level is supported by molecular data.

The End of a Global Pox America and the Eradication of Smallpox in the Cold War Era
Free Download The End of a Global Pox: America and the Eradication of Smallpox in the Cold War Era (Flows, Migrations, and Exchanges) by Bob H. Reinhardt
English | September 14, 2015 | ISBN: 1469624095, 1469642328 | True EPUB | 288 pages | 4.7 MB
By the mid-twentieth century, smallpox had vanished from North America and Europe but continued to persist throughout Africa, Asia, and South America. In 1965, the United States joined an international effort to eradicate the disease, and after fifteen years of steady progress, the effort succeeded. Bob H. Reinhardt demonstrates that the fight against smallpox drew American liberals into new and complex relationships in the global Cold War, as he narrates the history of the only cooperative international effort to successfully eliminate a human disease.

The Empirical Stance
Free Download The Empirical Stance (The Terry Lectures) by Bas C. van Fraassen
English | April 1, 2002 | ISBN: 0300088744, 0300103069 | True EPUB | 288 pages | 1.9 MB
What is empiricism and what could it be? Bas C. van Fraassen, one of the world's foremost contributors to philosophical logic and the philosophy of science, here undertakes a fresh consideration of these questions and offers a program for renewal of the empiricist tradition. The empiricist tradition is not and could not be defined by common doctrines, but embodies a certain stance in philosophy, van Fraassen says. This stance is displayed first of all in a searing, recurrent critique of metaphysics, and second in a focus on experience that requires a voluntarist view of belief and opinion.

The Emerging Digital Economy Entrepreneurship, Clusters, and Policy
Free Download The Emerging Digital Economy: Entrepreneurship, Clusters, and Policy By Börje Johansson, Charlie Karlsson, Roger R. Stough (auth.), Professor Börje Johansson, Professor Charlie Karlsson, Professor Roger Stough (eds.)
2006 | 352 Pages | ISBN: 354034487X | PDF | 2 MB
The technological dynamics of the digital age continue to impact the decisions of industries and firms on where to locate and where they tend to cluster geographically. Some of the impacts and structural patterns are consistent with the old or Fordist economic era; some are not. The contributors to this book provide a balanced view of the "Digital Economy" perspective and through new analyses illustrate where dynamics seem to be emerging and where more traditional patterns seem to be holding. The editors provide a synthesis that places the contributions in a broader frame. More than just a perspective on the digital economy based only on interpretive analysis, this book utilizes empirical analysis in its assessment of the dynamics of specific regions in different parts of the world. The book also examines the policy implications of the rising Digital Economy. The reader will gain considerable new insight founded on facts.
