Free Download Strategic Shifts between Business Types: A transaction cost theory-based approach supported by dyad simulation By Katrin Susanne Mühlfeld (auth.) 2004 | 320 Pages | ISBN: 3824479893 | PDF | 17 MB Many companies in business-to-business markets hope to improve their profit situation considerably by fundamentally changing the technological or contractual dimensions of their market offerings. Often enough, reality does not live up to these expectations. Since such strategy shifts often imply substantial investments, a systematic ex ante analysis of the chances of success is an important issue in strategic management. Katrin Susanne Mühlfeld classifies the heterogeneous selling and purchasing processes on business-to-business markets and derives different business types. Against this background, she analyzes motivations and conditions for strategic changes of market offerings which can be interpreted as shifts between these business types. Transaction cost economics provide the main theoretical foundations while additional reference is made to Austrian economics and research on power-dependence relations.
Free Download Strategic Purchasing and Supply Management: A Strategy-Based Selection of Suppliers By Roger Moser (auth.) 2007 | 243 Pages | ISBN: 3835006584 | PDF | 2 MB Purchasing and Supply Management (PSM) is still not considered a strategic function in many companies although on average more than half of a company's value proposition stems from its suppliers. In today's economy, companies which neglect the strategic management of their supply base fall behind their competitors. In many boardrooms, PSM is currently on top of the agenda. However, PSM can only create the advantages necessary to stay ahead of the competition when a company's supply base is managed according to its overall strategic objectives. Roger Moser analyses the relationships between business priorities and PSM strategy and shows in detail how business strategies influence PSM, in particular supplier selection. He shows how a strategy-based selection of suppliers can generate competitive advantages in PSM and for the company. His work contributes to a research stream which aims at integrating PSM more closely into strategic management. Furthermore, the author develops a PSM strategy concept which enables supply managers to break down strategic priorities from a business strategy level to a PSM level and to define appropriate actions when dealing with suppliers, supply markets and internal customers. Free Download Strategic Management in Islamic Finance By Alexander von Pock (auth.) 2007 | 222 Pages | ISBN: 3835007238 | PDF | 2 MB During the last decades, Islamic finance has evolved to become one of the most dynamic and fast developing business areas in the global financial industry. Although still a niche market, the segment is experiencing ever increasing competition and, especially in recent years, has left its home turf with Islamic financial products being offered in major markets outside the Muslim world, such as the United States and Great Britain. Alexander von Pock develops a holistic conceptual framework for identifying and testing key success factors of Islamic financial institutions. The framework integrates insights into the current practices of Islamic finance, a variety of theories - namely the market-based view, the resource-based view, and, to some extent, New Institutional Economics approaches - as well as previous research from the fields of strategic management and economics. The author is testing the theoretical framework empirically in a survey of 36 major Islamic financial institutions based in the Gulf Cooperation Council area and in Malaysia.
Free Download Strategic Investment Decisions in Regulated Markets: The Relationship Between Infrastructure Investments and Regulation in European Broadband By Christian Wernick (auth.) 2007 | 225 Pages | ISBN: 3835008420 | PDF | 2 MB Most network industries throughout Europe are subject to sector-specific regulation with large impact on market structures and results. Consequently, questions related to regulatory designs and their effects on market outcomes become more and more important in business and politics as well as in scholarly research. Concentrating on Germany and the UK, Christian Wernick provides the reader with insights on the effects of different regulatory strategies, which take place under a common European regulatory framework. Combining theoretical analyses and empirical material a sophisticated and balanced picture on the coherences between regulation and investment behaviour in Germany's and the UK's broadband markets is presented. Free Download Strategic Closed-Loop Supply Chain Management By Baptiste Lebreton PhD (auth.) 2007 | 156 Pages | ISBN: 3540389075 | PDF | 2 MB Closed loops depict supply chains for which Original Equipement Manufacturer reintegrate their returned products into their own production network. While the reverse logistics research has extensively addressed the technical aspects of product reintegration, very few insights are available on whether OEMs should commit themselves to a closed-loop. The structure of the monograph is aligned to the decision-making process of Original Equipment Manufacturers willing to investigate the potential of closed-loops. This decision-making process is structured around fundamental questions managers are expected to answer prior to running a circular supply chain: Does a closed-loop fit with the corporate objectives? Is it profitable to run a closed-loop? How should OEMs deal with free-riders' competition? Which product/technology/location setup leads to a profit-maximizing supply chain? The planning framework is finally applied to two case studies from the tire and the computer industry. Free Download Dion C. Smythe, "Strangers to Themselves: The Byzantine Outsider" English | 2000 | pages: 279 | ISBN: 0860788148 | PDF | 4,0 mb March 1998 saw Byzantinists gathering together at the University of Sussex in Brighton, for the annual symposium held by the Society for the Promotion of Byzantine Studies. Their aim was to consider the question of the 'Byzantine outsider'. Some categories of outsiders appear clear and simple: those marked out by class, race, sex, religion. But these categories are not universals. Today, historians of all periods are examining the ways in which we analyse the divisions in our societies, which can determine how we look at societies in the past. There is no consensus on who forms the 'outsider class' in modern society; it should come as no surprise that there was no consensus in Byzantium as to who the outsiders were, what they had done to deserve that status, and what the result of their attaining it should have been. The papers in this collection, drawn from the large number presented at the XXXII Spring Symposium, continue the debate about the idea of the 'Byzantine outsider'. The scholars within - theologians, historians, literary critics and art historians - present differing approaches to different aspects of the problem. The volume does not aim to have the 'last word', but rather to provoke debate and to open the field. Any examination of society that uses the concept of the outsider has implicitly within it a concept of the 'insider'. By looking at those on the margins it becomes easier to see who were - or at least thought they were - on the inside. Free Download Strange Beasts by Susan J. Free Download Keith Jordan, "Stone Trees Transplanted? Central Mexican Stelae of the Epiclassic and Early Postclassic and the Question of Maya 'Influ" English | ISBN: 1784910104 | 2014 | 249 pages | PDF | 76 MB Stelae dating to the Epiclassic (650-900 CE) and Early Postclassic (950-1150 CE) from Tula, Xochicalco, and other sites in Central Mexico have been presented in the archaeological and art historical literature of the last four decades-when they have been addressed at all-as evidence of Classic Maya 'influence' on Central Mexican art during these periods. This book re-evaluates these claims via detailed comparative analysis of the Central Mexican stelae and their claimed Maya counterparts. For the first time the Central Mexican stelae are placed in the context of often earlier local artistic traditions as well as other possible long-distance connections. Comparison of Tula and Xochicalco stelae with earlier and contemporary stelae from Oaxaca and Guerrero demonstrates connections equally as plausible as those posited with the Maya region, and supported by archaeological evidence. While it is clear that some Central Mexican stelae, especially Stela 4 from Tula, reflect Maya contacts, this has to be balanced by consideration of local and other long distance developments and connections. |
