Properties of Fluorite Structure Materials
Free Download Peter Vajda, "Properties of Fluorite Structure Materials "
English | ISBN: 1624174582 | 2013 | 195 pages | PDF | 110 MB
The present work focuses on two fluorite-structured groups of materials: the hydrides of the rare earths (and actinides) and several specificmetal oxides, and is authored by researchers among the most competentand active in the field. By contrast to the classical "historic"alkaline-earth halides, non-stoichiometry appears as a key issue forboth groups treated here. The former group has attracted particularlyclose attention because of its possible candidature as hydrogen storagematerial within the vast prospect of the clean energy economy. In thesecond group, a chapter is devoted to the (antifluorite-type) lithiumoxide, a candidate for (super)ionic batteries (again interesting for the clean energy technology) and as a tritium "breeder" in fusion reactorwalls. Finally, two more chapters are dedicated to the radiation effects on actinide dioxides (like uranium dioxide), and yttria-stabilizedzirconium dioxide which is envisioned as an inert confinement matrix for actinide transmutation in nuclear reactors.

Progress in Porous Media Research
Free Download Kong Shuo Tian, "Progress in Porous Media Research"
English | ISBN: 1606924354 | 2009 | 578 pages | PDF | 48 MB
In this work, fractal structures are generated to model the structures of natural porous media. It also presents the fundamental theory of transient infinite elements, which can be used to effectively and efficiently simulate heat transfer and mass transport problems in fluid-saturated porous media of infinite domains.

Powder Metallurgy Research Trends
Free Download Lotte J. Smit, "Powder Metallurgy Research Trends"
English | ISBN: 1604568526 | 2013 | 309 pages | PDF | 17 MB
Powder metallurgy is a forming and fabrication technique consisting of three major processing stages. First, the primary material is physically powdered, divided into many small individual particles. Next, the powder is injected into a mould or passed through a die to produce a weakly cohesive structure (via cold welding) very near the dimensions of the object ultimately to be manufactured. Finally, the end part is formed by applying pressure, high temperature, long setting times (during which self-welding occurs), or any combination thereof. In powder metallurgy or ceramics it is possible to fabricate components which otherwise would decompose or disintegrate. All considerations of solid-liquid phase changes can be ignored, so powder processes are more flexible than casting, extrusion, or forging techniques. Controllable characteristics of products prepared using various powder technologies include mechanical, magnetic, and other unconventional properties of such materials as porous solids, aggregates, and intermetallic compounds. This book provides new research on this field from around the globe.

Piracy of Digital Content
Free Download Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development, "Piracy of Digital Content"
English | 2009 | pages: 137 | ISBN: 9264064508 | PDF | 1,5 mb
This book studies digital piracy - the infringement of copyrighted content (such as music, films, software, broadcasting, books, etc.) - where the end product does not involve the use of hard media, such as CDs and DVDs. It presents the unique economic properties of markets for pirated digital products, where the existence of a large number of suppliers willing to provide pirated content at virtually no cost poses new and difficult challenges to copyright owners and policy makers in combating that piracy. These economic features, together with rapid technological developments, create special and unique problems to policy makers and the large number of actors involved in different jurisdictions. This book also provides an illustrative, in-depth case study of the sports rights owners sector, highlighting how it is affected by digital piracy.

Photonic Crystals Fabrication, Band Structure and Applications
Free Download Venla E. Laine, "Photonic Crystals: Fabrication, Band Structure and Applications "
English | ISBN: 1616689536 | 2011 | 305 pages | PDF | 16 MB
Photonic crystals are periodic optical nanostructures that are designed to affect the motion of photons in a similar way that periodicity of a semiconductor crystal affects the motion of electrons. Photonic crystals occur in nature and in various forms have been studied scientifically for the last 100 years. This book gathers and presents topical data in the field of photonic crystals including the phenomena in photonic crystals stipulating the presence of omnidirectional band gaps, i.e., overlapping of stop bands in all directions; the physics of photonic crystal couplers and their applications; photonic crystals and their capability to control the propagation and emission of electromagnetic waves and others.
