English | 2013 | ISBN: 0415717612 | EPUB | pages: 132 | 0.5 mb
What does it mean to describe something or someone as absurd? Why did absurd philosophy and literature become so popular amidst the violent conflicts and terrors of the mid- to late-twentieth century? Is it possible to understand absurdity not as a feature of events, but as a psychological posture or stance? If so, what are the objectives, dynamics, and repercussions of the absurd stance? And in what ways has the absurd stance continued to shape postmodern thought and contemporary culture?

Rethinking right–wing women Gender and the Conservative Party, 1880s to the present
Free Download Clarisse Berthezène, Julie Gottlieb, "Rethinking right-wing women: Gender and the Conservative Party, 1880s to the present"
English | 2017 | ISBN: 1784994383 | EPUB | pages: 264 | 0.7 mb
Rethinking Right-Wing Women explores the institutional structures for and the representations, mobilisation, and the political careers of women in the British Conservative Party since the late 19th century. From the Primrose League (est.1883) to Women2Win (est.2005), the party has exploited women's political commitment and their social power from the grass-roots to the heights of the establishment. Yet, although it is the party that extended the equal franchise, had the first woman MP to sit Parliament, and produced the first two women Prime Ministers, the UK Conservative Party has developed political roles for women that jar with feminist and progressive agendas. Conservative women have tended to be more concerned about the fulfilment of women's duties than the realisation of women's rights. This book tackles the ambivalences between women's politicisation and women's emancipation in the history of Britain's most electorally successful and hegemonic political party.

Rethinking Utopia Place, Power, Affect
Free Download David M. Bell, "Rethinking Utopia: Place, Power, Affect"
English | 2018 | ISBN: 1138368245, 1138891339 | EPUB | pages: 188 | 0.7 mb
Over five hundred years since it was named, utopia remains a vital concept for understanding and challenging the world(s) we inhabit, even in - or rather because of - the condition of 'post-utopianism' that supposedly permeates them. In Rethinking Utopia David M. Bell offers a diagnosis of the present through the lens of utopia and then, by rethinking the concept through engagement with utopian studies, a variety of 'radical' theories and the need for decolonizing praxis, shows how utopianism might work within, against and beyond that which exists in order to provide us with hope for a better future.

Rethinking Political Risk Concepts, Theories, Challenges
Free Download Cecilia Emma Sottilotta, "Rethinking Political Risk: Concepts, Theories, Challenges"
English | 2018 | ISBN: 1138361372 | EPUB | pages: 150 | 0.9 mb
Political risk was first introduced as a component for assessing risk not directly linked to economic factors following the flow of capital from the US to Europe after the Second World War. However, the concept has rapidly gained relevance since, with both public and private institutions developing complex methodologies designed to evaluate political risk factors and keep pace with the internationalization of trade and investment. Continued global and regional economic and political instability means a plethora of different actors today conduct a diverse range of political risk analyses and assessments. Starting from the epistemological foundations of political risk, this books bridges the gap between theory and practice, exploring operationalization and measurement issues with the support of an empirical case study on the Arab uprisings, discussing the role of expert judgment in political forecasting, and highlighting the main challenges and opportunities political risk analysts face in the wake of the digital revolution.

Rethinking Hobbes and Kant The Role and Consequences of Assumption in Political Theory
Free Download Chia-Yu Chou, "Rethinking Hobbes and Kant: The Role and Consequences of Assumption in Political Theory"
English | 2017 | ISBN: 1032097744, 147247256X | EPUB | pages: 170 | 0.3 mb
Rethinking Hobbes and Kant argues that predominant approaches to the theoretical relationship between Hobbes and Kant have reached conclusions that were pre-digested in assumptions about the 'isms' which these two writers are propounding. Chou shows how these assumptions have inhibited commentators from recognising the affinities between Hobbes's and Kant's political philosophies, or, if they have, prevented them from providing a plausible explanation of those affinities.

Resolving Security Dilemmas A Constructivist Explanation of the INF Treaty
Free Download Brian Frederking, "Resolving Security Dilemmas: A Constructivist Explanation of the INF Treaty"
English | 2019 | ISBN: 0415791820 | EPUB | pages: 184 | 0.6 mb
This title was first published in 2000. The book applies constructivist arguments about culture, norms and identity to explain the superpower negotiations that produced the INF Treaty. It contributes to the constructivist research program in two ways. First, it develops a speech act model of social interaction to illustrate constructivist arguments and second, it develops a constructivist theory of security dilemmas that suggests practical ways to resolve them. The substantive conclusion of the book is that the dominant understanding of the end of the Cold War (the buildup argument) is not correct as it advocates policies that tend to perpetuate conflicts. Instead this book argues that the 'new thinking' explanation is more coherent and suggests improved practical ways to resolve other security dilemmas.
