Musical Islands Exploring Connections between Music, Place and Research
Free Download Katelyn Barney, Brydie-Leigh Bartleet, Klisala Harrison, "Musical Islands: Exploring Connections between Music, Place and Research"
English | 2009 | ISBN: 144380956X | PDF | pages: 485 | 4.1 mb
The island is a powerful metaphor in everyday speech which extends almost naturally into several academic disciplines, including musicology. Islands are imagined as isolated and unique places where strange, exotic, different and unexpected treasures can be found by daring adventurers. The magic inherent within this positioning of islands as places of discovery is an aspect which permeates the theoretical, methodological and analytical boundaries of this edited book. Showcasing the breadth of current musicological research in Australia and New Zealand, this edited collection offers a range of subtle and innovative reflections on this concept both in established and well-charted territories of music research.

Music and Schema Theory Cognitive Foundations of Systematic Musicology
Free Download Music and Schema Theory: Cognitive Foundations of Systematic Musicology By Dr. Marc Leman (auth.)
1995 | 234 Pages | ISBN: 3642852157 | PDF | 13 MB
Music and Schema Theory Music is an important domain of application for schema theory. The perceptual structures for pitch and timbre have been mapped via schemata, with results that have contributed to a better understanding of music perception. Yet we still need to know how a schema comes into existence, or how it functions in a particular perception task. This book provides a foundation for the understanding of the emergance and functionality of schemata by means of computer-based simulations of tone center perception. It is about how memory structures self-organize and how they use contextual information to guide perception.

Multisensory Control of Posture
Free Download Multisensory Control of Posture By E. D. Schomburg (auth.), T. Mergner, F. Hlavačka (eds.)
1995 | 358 Pages | ISBN: 1461357918 | PDF | 12 MB
From recent developments in the rapidly growing area of neuroscience it has become increasingly clear that a simplistic description of brain function as a broad collection of simple input-output relations is quite inadequate. Introspection already tells us that our motor behavior is guided by a complex interplay between many inputs from the outside world and from our internal "milieu," internal models of ourselves and the outside world, memory content, directed attention, volition, and so forth. Also, our motor activity normally involves more than a circumscribed group of muscles, even if we intend to move only one effector organ. For example, a reaching movement or a reorientation of a sensory organ almost invariably requires a pattern of preparatory or assisting activities in other parts of the body, like the ones that maintain the body's equilibrium. The present volume is a summary of the papers presented at the symposium "Sensory Interaction in Posture and Movement Control" that was held at Smolenice Castle near Bratislava, Slovakia, as a Satellite Symposium to the ENA Meeting 1994 in Vienna. The focus of this meeting was not only restricted to the "classical" sensory interactions such as between vestibular and visual signals, or between otolith and semicircular canal inputs. Rather, the symposium tried to consider also the interplay between perception and action, between reflexive and volitional motor acts as well as between sensory driven or self-initi ated motor acts and reafferent inputs.

Multiscale, Nonlinear and Adaptive Approximation II
Free Download Multiscale, Nonlinear and Adaptive Approximation II
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031758013 | 470 Pages | PDF (True) | 18 MB
This book presents a collection of high-quality papers in applied and numerical mathematics, as well as approximation theory, all closely related to Wolfgang Dahmen's scientific contributions. Compiled in honor of his 75th birthday, the papers are written by leading experts and cover topics including nonlinear approximation theory, numerical analysis of partial differential equations, learning theory, and electron microscopy. A unifying theme throughout the collection is the emphasis on a solid mathematical foundation, which serves as the basis for the most efficient numerical algorithms used to simulate complex phenomena.
