Riesz and B. Sz.-Nagy no ticed in 1952 that [49]: "The existence of such a variety of linear transformations, having the same spectrum concentrated at a single point, brings out the difficulties of characterization of linear transformations of general type by means of their spectra." Subsequently, spectral analysis has been developed for different classes of non selfadjoint operators [6,7,14,20,21,36,44,46,54]. It was then realized that this analysis forms a natural basis for the theory of systems interacting with the environment. The success of this theory in the single operator case inspired attempts to create a general theory in the much more complicated case of several commuting operators with finite-dimensional imaginary parts. During the past 10-15 years such a theory has been developed, yielding fruitful connections with algebraic geometry and sys tem theory. Our purpose in this book is to formulate the basic problems appearing in this theory and to present its main results. It is worth noting that, in addition to the joint spectrum, the corresponding algebraic variety and its global topological characteristics play an important role in the classification of commuting operators. For the case of a pair of operators these are: 1. The corresponding algebraic curve, and especially its genus. 2. Certain classes of divisors - or certain line bundles - on this curve. Free Download Theory of Electron-Atom Collisions: Part 1: Potential Scattering By Philip G. Burke, Charles J. Joachain (auth.) 1995 | 255 Pages | ISBN: 1489915699 | PDF | 9 MB The authors aim to hone the theory of electron-atom and electron-ion collisions by developing mathematical equations and comparing their results to the wealth of recent experimental data. This first of three parts focuses on potential scattering, and will serve as an introduction to many of the concepts covered in Parts II and III. As these processes occur in so many of the physical sciences, researchers in astrophysics, atmospheric physics, plasma physics, and laser physics will all benefit from the monograph. Free Download Theory and Applications of Viscous Fluid Flows By Radyadour Kh. Zeytounian (auth.) 2004 | 488 Pages | ISBN: 3642078893 | PDF | 11 MB The purpose of Theory and Applications of Viscous Fluid Flows is to close the gap between standard undergraduate texts on fluid mechanics and monographical publications devoted to specific aspects of viscous fluid flows. After a general introduction, each chapter serves as an introduction to a special topic that will facilitate later application by readers in their research work. The book will benefit beginning graduate students and young researchers interested in a rational and systematic account of various theoretical and mathematical aspects of viscous fluid flow phenomena, as well as their modelling in relation to practical viscous and heat conducting problems. This volume complements, but is independent of, Zeytounian's Theory and Applications of Nonviscous Fluid Flows. Free Download Ágnes-Karolina Bakk, "Theorising and Designing Immersive Environments: Enchanting Spaces " English | ISBN: 3031660668 | 2024 | 287 pages | EPUB, PDF | 7 MB + 10 MB This edited volume discusses the topic of immersion, approaching it from the perspective of various media and stakeholders: experiencers and creators. While the concept of immersion has gained widespread currency in the last decades beyond video games, its critical theory has not reached the same momentum, meaning that there is no unified way of using the term. This causes many misunderstandings and stands as an obstacle to successful expectation management processes, especially in the entertainment industry. This book presents a nuanced platform of discussion to answer the question of how immersion can manifest itself in different media, and how creators are embracing the current trends within the experience economy. Free Download Philipp Budka, "Theorising Media and Conflict " English | ISBN: 1789206820 | 2020 | 350 pages | PDF | 816 KB Theorising Media and Conflict brings together anthropologists as well as media and communication scholars to collectively address the elusive and complex relationship between media and conflict. Through epistemological and methodological reflections and the analyses of various case studies from around the globe, this volume provides evidence for the co-constitutiveness of media and conflict and contributes to their consolidation as a distinct area of scholarship. Practitioners, policymakers, students and scholars who wish to understand the lived realities and dynamics of contemporary conflicts will find this book invaluable.
Free Download Theoretical, Experimental, and Numerical Contributions to the Mechanics of Fluids and Solids: A collection of papers in honor of Paul M. Naghdi By James Casey, Marcel J. Crochet (auth.), James Casey, Marcel J. Crochet (eds.) 1995 | 852 Pages | ISBN: 3034899548 | PDF | 19 MB This special issue of ZAMP is published to honor Paul M. Naghdi for his contributions to mechanics over the last forty years and more. It is offered in celebration of his long, productive career in continuum mechan ics; a career which has been marked by a passion for the intrinsic beauty of the subject, an uncompromising adherence to academic standards, and an untiring devotion to our profession. Originally, this issue was planned in celebration of Naghdi's 70th birthday, which occurred on 29 March 1994. But, as the papers were being prepared for the press, it became evident that the illness from which Professor Naghdi had been suffering during recent months was extremely serious. On 26 May 1994, a reception took place in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Berkeley, at which Naghdi received The Berkeley Citation (which is given in lieu of an honorary degree) and where he was also presented with the Table of Contents of the present collection. Subse quently, he had the opportunity to read the papers in manuscript form. He was very touched that his colleagues had chosen to honor him with their fine contributions. The knowledge that he was held in such high esteem by his fellow scientists brought a special pleasure and consolation to him in his last weeks. On Saturday evening, 9 July 1994, Paul Naghdi succumbed to the lung cancer which he had so courageously endured. |
