On the Tragic
Free Download Peter Wessel Zapffe, "On the Tragic"
English | ISBN: 1636674887 | 2024 | 606 pages | EPUB | 3 MB
Originally published in Norwegian in 1941, this is the magnum opus of one of Norway's most celebrated philosophers, now made available in English for the first time. It examines the concept of the tragic and attempts to construct a more precise and useful definition on the basis of a "biosophical" look at the situation of organisms in their environment and their attempt to realize interests on multiple fronts through abilities they possess in a variety of degrees. This is a theory of genius, and of the dangers that frequently accompany it, and a sober account of the perils of consciousness for the human species. The robust and thorough treatment includes in-depth analysis of the relationship between real-world tragedies and those portrayed in theater and literature.

Nuts! The Battle of the Bulge (The Story and Photographs)
Free Download Donald M. Goldstein, Katherine V. Dillon - Nuts! The Battle of the Bulge (The Story and Photographs)
Brassey's | 1994 | ISBN: 0028810694, 1574882791 | English | 212 pages | PDF | 151 MB
This book is loaded with photographs before, during and after various battles surrounding the Bulge campaign. There is also a section covering the trial of the Malmedy massacre. This is not an indepth, play by play, history, but a day to day photo/narrative of what the troops, on both sides, were going through. Great addition to any WW2 history buff's collection.

Numerical Methods for Strong Nonlinearities in Mechanics
Free Download Numerical Methods for Strong Nonlinearities in Mechanics: Contact and Fracture
English | 2024 | ISBN: 1789450810 | 374 Pages | PDF | 93 MB
Numerical Methods for Strong Nonlinearities in Mechanics deals with recent advances in the numerical treatment of contact/friction and damage phenomena. Although physically distinct, these phenomena both lead to a strong nonlinearity in the mechanical problem, therefore limiting the regularity of the problem, which is now non-differentiable.

Novel Nanocarriers for Skin Diseases Advances and Applications
Free Download Novel Nanocarriers for Skin Diseases: Advances and Applications
English | 2025 | ISBN: 1774915340 | 420 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 27 MB
This new volume explores advances that have been achieved in the effective use of nanocarriers as drug delivery systems to address skin diseases. It presents the progress in the treatment via nanocarriers of acne, dermatitis, psoriasis, and infections. It also looks at follicular delivery as a promising strategy due to reduced particle size of these drug delivery systems.

Normal Modes and Localization in Nonlinear Systems
Free Download Normal Modes and Localization in Nonlinear Systems By Ioannis T. Georgiou, Ira B. Schwartz (auth.), Alexander F. Vakakis (eds.)
2001 | 294 Pages | ISBN: 9048157153 | PDF | 9 MB
The nonlinear normal modes of a parametrically excited cantilever beam are constructed by directly applying the method of multiple scales to the governing integral-partial differential equation and associated boundary conditions. The effect of the inertia and curvature nonlin earities and the parametric excitation on the spatial distribution of the deflection is examined. The results are compared with those obtained by using a single-mode discretization. In the absence of linear viscous and quadratic damping, it is shown that there are nonlinear normal modes, as defined by Rosenberg, even in the presence of a principal parametric excitation. Furthermore, the nonlinear mode shape obtained with the direct approach is compared with that obtained with the discretization approach for some values of the excitation frequency. In the single-mode discretization, the spatial distribution of the deflection is assumed a priori to be given by the linear mode shape ¢n, which is parametrically excited, as Equation (41). Thus, the mode shape is not influenced by the nonlinear curvature and nonlinear damping. On the other hand, in the direct approach, the mode shape is not assumed a priori; the nonlinear effects modify the linear mode shape ¢n. Therefore, in the case of large-amplitude oscillations, the single-mode discretization may yield inaccurate mode shapes. References 1. Vakakis, A. F., Manevitch, L. I., Mikhlin, Y. v., Pilipchuk, V. Nonthermal Light–Based Technologies in Food Processing
Free Download Nonthermal Light-Based Technologies in Food Processing
English | 2025 | ISBN: 1774917505 | 488 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 22 MB
Food preservation has existed since time immemorial with techniques that focused on prolonging shelf-life of food products. The current challenge, though, is to preserve food in terms of loss of nutrients, texture, and sensorial characteristics along with prolonging its shelf-life. This new volume, Nonthermal Light-Based Technologies in Food Processing, explores and provides in-depth knowledge and understanding of current and emerging light-based technologies and their application in food processing. This book also introduces the role of nonthermal technology for novel food product development.

Nonlinear Oscillations and Waves in Dynamical Systems
Free Download Nonlinear Oscillations and Waves in Dynamical Systems By P. S. Landa (auth.)
1996 | 544 Pages | ISBN: 9048146704 | PDF | 12 MB
A rich variety of books devoted to dynamical chaos, solitons, self-organization has appeared in recent years. These problems were all considered independently of one another. Therefore many of readers of these books do not suspect that the problems discussed are divisions of a great generalizing science - the theory of oscillations and waves. This science is not some branch of physics or mechanics, it is a science in its own right. It is in some sense a meta-science. In this respect the theory of oscillations and waves is closest to mathematics. In this book we call the reader's attention to the present-day theory of non-linear oscillations and waves. Oscillatory and wave processes in the systems of diversified physical natures, both periodic and chaotic, are considered from a unified poin t of view . The relation between the theory of oscillations and waves, non-linear dynamics and synergetics is discussed. One of the purposes of this book is to convince reader of the necessity of a thorough study popular branches of of the theory of oscillat ions and waves, and to show that such science as non-linear dynamics, synergetics, soliton theory, and so on, are, in fact , constituent parts of this theory. The primary audiences for this book are researchers having to do with oscillatory and wave processes, and both students and post-graduate students interested in a deep study of the general laws and applications of the theory of oscillations and waves.

Nonlinear Mechanics, Groups and Symmetry
Free Download Nonlinear Mechanics, Groups and Symmetry By Yu. A. Mitropolsky, A. K. Lopatin (auth.)
1995 | 382 Pages | ISBN: 9048145171 | PDF | 15 MB
This unique monograph deals with the development of asymptotic methods of perturbation theory, making wide use of group- theoretical techniques. Various assumptions about specific group properties are investigated, and are shown to lead to modifications of existing methods, such as the Bogoliubov averaging method and the Poincaré--Birkhoff normal form, as well as to the formulation of new ones. The development of normalization techniques of Lie groups is also treated. The wealth of examples demonstrates how these new group theoretical techniques can be applied to analyze specific problems. This book will be of interest to researchers and graduate students in the field of pure and applied mathematics, mechanics, physics, engineering, and biosciences.
