Methodisch basiert die Untersuchung auf einer Dunkelfeldbefragung von jugendlichen Tätern, einer qualitativen Befragung von Experten und einer Analyse von Gewaltclips. Als Ergebnis identifiziert die Autorin unterschiedliche Erscheinungsformen des Phänomens und verschiedene Motive der jugendlichen Täter, die sich zum Teil von nicht gefilmter Jugendgewalt unterscheiden. Die Gewaltinszenierungen und Gewaltdokumentationen sind als radikale Form einer Selbstpräsentation beschreibbar, als eine Herstellung und visuelle Verbreitung der eigenen individuellen Marke. Dieses Selbstmarketing basiert bei den befragten Jugendlichen auf Gewalt, wobei Gewalt hier nicht zwingend eine Antwort auf Marginalisierungen ist, sondern ein selbstgewähltes Leistungsfeld sein kann.
