The Role of Norms and Electronic Institutions in Multi–Agent Systems The HarmonIA Framework
Free Download The Role of Norms and Electronic Institutions in Multi-Agent Systems: The HarmonIA Framework By Javier Vázquez-Salceda (auth.)
2004 | 274 Pages | ISBN: 3764370572 | PDF | 8 MB
"It is not the consciousness of men that defines their existence, but, on the contrary, their social existence determines their consciousness." Karl Marx In recent years, several researchers have argued that the design of multi-agent sys tems (MAS) in complex, open environments can benefit from social abstractions in order to cope with problems in coordination, cooperation and trust among agents, problems which are also present in human societies. The agent-mediated electronic institutions (e-institutions for short) is a new and promising field which focuses in the concepts of norms and institutions in order to pro vide normative frameworks to restrict or guide the behaviour of (software) agents. The main idea is that the interactions among a group of (software) agents are ruled by a set of explicit norms expressed in a computational language representation that agents can interpret. Such norms should not be considered as a negative constraining factor but as an aid that guides the agents' choices and reduces the complexity ofthe environment making the behaviour of other agents more predictable.

The Practical Real–Time Enterprise Facts and Perspectives

Speed as a factor for success Our modern industrial society lives life in the fast lane. The catchwords "faster", "shorter", "more powerful" reflect what we experience in almost all aspects of our lives. Whether at home or at work, we are constantly on the move and in a rush. In our private lives we find rapid exchange of inf- mation most entertaining and we are fascinated by the wide range of inf- mation that pours in on us from all around the world, mainly via the new media. It gives us the feeling of being a part of the action everywhere and all the time. Seldom are we aware that the only reason this flood of inf- mation, often referred to as "overstimulation", does not lead to overkill is that we manage to organize our time effectively. There are many parallels to this in the business world. Here too, a great deal of time pressure is exerted from outside; goals are set ever higher and deadlines become tighter. In other words, demands on our time demand faster reaction. Crucial information travels around the globe - across all time zones - in a matter of seconds. In fact, instead of CET or CEST, it would make sense to have a single time zone for the worldwide network called GST for Global Simultaneous Time. In business more so than in p- vate life, we are almost constantly online.

The Power of Scripture Political Biblicism in the Early Stuart Monarchy between Representation and Subversion
Free Download Andreas Pečar, "The Power of Scripture: Political Biblicism in the Early Stuart Monarchy between Representation and Subversion "
English | ISBN: 1800733208 | 2021 | 270 pages | PDF | 1119 KB
In England, from the Reformation era to the outbreak of the Civil War, religious authority contributed to popular political discourse in ways that significantly shaped the legitimacy of the monarchy as a form of rule as well as the monarch's ability to act politically. The Power of Scripture casts aside parochial conceptualizations of that authority's origins and explores the far-reaching consequences of political biblicism. It shows how arguments, narratives, and norms taken from Biblical scripture not only directly contributed to national religious politics but also left lasting effects on the socio-political development of Stuart England.

The Politics of Personal Information Surveillance, Privacy, and Power in West Germany
Free Download Larry Frohman, "The Politics of Personal Information: Surveillance, Privacy, and Power in West Germany"
English | ISBN: 1789209463 | 2020 | 406 pages | PDF | 3 MB
In the 1970s and 1980s West Germany was a pioneer in both the use of the new information technologies for population surveillance and the adoption of privacy protection legislation. During this era of cultural change and political polarization, the expansion, bureaucratization, and computerization of population surveillance disrupted the norms that had governed the exchange and use of personal information in earlier decades and gave rise to a set of distinctly postindustrial social conflicts centered on the use of personal information as a means of social governance in the welfare state. Combining vast archival research with a groundbreaking theoretical analysis, this book gives a definitive account of the politics of personal information in West Germany at the dawn of the information society.

The Parametric Lambda Calculus A Metamodel for Computation
Free Download The Parametric Lambda Calculus: A Metamodel for Computation By Simona Ronchi Della Rocca, Luca Paolini
2004 | 253 Pages | ISBN: 3642057462 | PDF | 5 MB
The parametric lambda calculus is a metamodel for reasoning about various kinds of computations. Its syntactic definition is based on the notion of "sets of input values", and different lambda calculi can be obtained from it by instantiating such sets in suitable ways. The parametric lambda calculus is used as a tool for presenting in a uniform way basic notions of programming languages, and for studying with a uniform approach some lambda calculi modeling different kinds of computations, such as call-by-name, both in its lazy and non-lazy versions, and call-by-value. The parametric presentation allows us both to prove in one step all the fundamental properties of different calculi, and to compare them with each other. The book includes some classical results in the field of lambda calculi, but completely rephrased using the parametric approach, together with some new results. The lambda calculi are presented from a computer science viewpoint, with particular emphasis on their semantics, both operational and denotational. This book is dedicated to researchers, and can be used as a textbook for masters or Ph.D. courses on the foundations of computer science.

The Museum of Mankind Man and Boy in the British Museum Ethnography Department
Free Download Ben Burt, "The Museum of Mankind: Man and Boy in the British Museum Ethnography Department "
English | ISBN: 1789203023 | 2019 | 172 pages | PDF | 5 MB
The Museum of Mankind was an innovative and popular showcase for minority cultures from around the non-Western world from 1970 to 1997. This memoir is a critical appreciation of its achievements in the various roles of a national museum, of the personalities of its staff and of the issues raised in the representation of exotic cultures. Issues of changing museum theory and practice are raised in a detailed case-study that also focuses on the social life of the museum community. This is the first history of a remarkable museum and a memorable interlude in the long history of one of the world's oldest and greatest museums. Although not presented as an academic study, it should be useful for museum and cultural studies as a well as a wider readership interested in the British Museum.
