Free Download Senta Goertler, "Technology-mediated Crisis Response in Language Studies " English | ISBN: 180050456X | 2024 | 378 pages | EPUB | 2 MB The COVID-19 crisis was unplanned, unprecedented, and highly unpredictable, leading educators to rethink their pedagogies, policies, practices, technologies, strategies and more. In the months and years following, educational institutions were forced to adjust to new ways of doing their work, refinements with long-term implications for language learning and teaching. Much of the early research in language education which came about as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic focused on its negative effects, such as the lack of infrastructure and preparedness (Tao & Gao, 2022), (in)equitable access for educators and learners (Back, Zavala, & Franco, 2022), perceived lowered outcomes (Moser, Wei & Brenner, 2021), and emotional burdens (MacIntyre, Gregersen, & Mercer, 2020). In this volume, we capture some of the lessons learned during and as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in order to move forward as a field with intention and purpose, and to take advantage of any crisis-prompted innovation. The volume aims to provide implications for other current and future challenges and crises that require our attention in language teaching and technology. Contributions will bring additional depth to the pandemic discussion in each of the four parts: (1) Emergency Response, (2) Problem Solving, (3) Outcomes, and (4) By-Products.
Free Download Charles B. Hutchison, "Teaching in America: A Cross-Cultural Guide for International Teachers and Their Employers" English | 2006 | pages: 266 | ISBN: 1402037716 | PDF | 1,3 mb Scenario One Imagine a teacher walking into a classroom. The students stood up to greet the teacher on his or her entrance through the door, and remained standing until they were beckoned to sit down. The students then sat down, with their eyes fixed on the teacher, waiting for instructions on what to do next. The teacher was in absolute control, knew exactly what was going on, and what to expect from the students. On their part, the students knew exactly what to expect from the teacher; standing up to greet the teacher on his or her entrance into the classroom was normal. In fact, it was cultural. They had therefore not done anything extraordinary. The teacher proceeded to have a verygood class period. Nothing different was expected; this was a normal day. Scenario Two Imagine the same teacher, with the same expectations as in Scenario One, walking into a different classroom. The students did not stand up to greet him or her; they did not know about such a tradition, nor was it a part of their culture. In fact, some were standing and chatting with friends as he or she entered the classroom. Free Download Sustainable Supply Chains: A Research-Based Textbook on Operations and Strategy by Yann Bouchery, Charles J. Corbett, Jan C. Fransoo English | April 11, 2024 | ISBN: 3031455649 | 579 pages | MOBI | 10 Mb This book is primarily intended to serve as a research-based textbook on sustainable supply chains for graduate programs in business, management, industrial engineering, and industrial ecology, but should also be of interest to researchers in the broader sustainable supply chain space, whether from the operations management and industrial engineering side or more from the industrial ecology and life-cycle assessment side. As firms become ever more tightly coupled in global supply chains, rather than being large and vertically integrated monoliths, the risks and opportunities associated with activities upstream or downstream will increasingly affect their own wellbeing. For firms to thrive, it is increasingly imperative that they be aware of the economic, environmental and social dimensions of the supply chains they operate in, and that they proactively monitor and manage them. Finding effective solutions towards a more sustainable supply chain is increasingly important for managers, but raises difficult questions, often without clear answers. This book provides students and practitioners valuable insights into these kinds of questions, based on the latest academic research.
