Narratives in the Making Writing the East German Past in the Democratic Present
Free Download Anselma Gallinat, "Narratives in the Making: Writing the East German Past in the Democratic Present"
English | ISBN: 178533302X | 2016 | 242 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Despite the three decades that have passed since the fall of the Berlin Wall, the historical narrative of East Germany is hardly fixed in public memory, as German society continues to grapple with the legacies of the Cold War. This fascinating ethnography looks at two very different types of local institutions in one eastern German state that take divergent approaches to those legacies: while publicly funded organizations reliably cast the GDR as a dictatorship, a main regional newspaper offers a more ambivalent perspective colored by the experiences and concerns of its readers. As author Anselma Gallinat shows, such memory work―initially undertaken after fundamental regime change―inevitably shapes citizenship and democracy in the present.

My Three Countries A Journey from Privilege to Slavery to Freedom

English | ISBN: 1543935184 | 2018 | 214 pages | EPUB | 49 MB
Born in Romania, Anna Untch grew up in a community that gave special privileges to Saxons. She spent her childhood working on the family farm and learned German in school. But after World War II, the reparations Germany owed the Soviets were paid in the form of hard labor. Anna, her sisters, and thousands of Germanic people were rounded up at gunpoint and marched to the nearest train station, where boxcars waited to take them to the Soviet bloc. What followed were years of slave labor, starvation, illness and little hope―until a daring escape changed everything.

Museum, Place, Architecture and Narrative Nordic Maritime Museums' Portrayals of Shipping, Seafarers and Maritime Commu
Free Download Annika Bünz, "Museum, Place, Architecture and Narrative: Nordic Maritime Museums' Portrayals of Shipping, Seafarers and Maritime Commu"
English | ISBN: 1800733887 | 2022 | 206 pages | PDF | 72 MB
A characteristic trait of the maritime museums is that they are often located in a contemporary and/or historical environment from which the collections and narratives originate. The museum can thereby be directly linked to the site and its history. It is therefore vital to investigate the maritime museums in terms of relationships between landscape, architecture, museum and collections. This volume unravels the kinds of worlds and realities the Nordic maritime museums stage, which identities and national myths they depict, and how they make use of both the surrounding maritime environments and the architectural properties of the museum buildings.

Multiagent Systems for Manufacturing Control A Design Methodology
Free Download Multiagent Systems for Manufacturing Control: A Design Methodology By Dr. Stefan Bussmann, Professor Nicholas R. Jennings, Professor Michael Wooldridge (auth.)
2004 | 290 Pages | ISBN: 3642058906 | PDF | 6 MB
The ability of production companies to rapidly develop and deploy effective and efficient control systems is critical for success in the consumer-driven environment of contemporary manufacturing. This book presents a novel approach to the design of manufacturing control systems, based around the idea of agents, semiautonomous decision makers that cooperate to process goods and meet orders. This new methodology is DACS - Designing Agent-based Control Systems. Developed at DaimlerChrysler's research labs in Berlin, DACS is the first methodology specifically produced for the design of agent-based control systems. Beginning with a detailed overview of agent technologies, manufacturing control, and design methodologies, the book explains the DACS methodology and illustrates it by way of detailed case studies. The book will be of interest to researchers and practitioners in agent systems, manufacturing control, and software methodologies.

Moderate and Deep Sedation in Clinical Practice (3rd Edition)
Free Download Moderate and Deep Sedation in Clinical Practice
English | 2025 | ISBN: 1009233319 | 451 Pages | PDF | 6 MB
With the number of surgical procedures requiring sedation increasing every year, most hospitals and other facilities now have a procedural (moderate/deep) sedation program. The third edition of this popular handbook provides concise, practical, and evidence-based guidance on safe and effective procedural sedation. Featuring contributions from national experts, chapters cover the description/definition of sedation levels, patient evaluation, pharmacology, legal and quality assurance issues, as well as sedation for specific populations (ambulatory/office settings, elderly, pediatric, ICU, emergency room, endoscopy, reproductive technologies). The book also reviews the specific clinical and administrative considerations for the nursing and PA staff often involved in administering sedation. Comprehensively updated to incorporate the most current, evidence-based information including updates to existing guidelines, patient outcomes data from the most recently published papers and expanded sedation-related content in sub-specialties. An essential manual for a wide array of healthcare providers to develop safer techniques, policies, and procedures for moderate and sedation.

Modellbildung in der Informatik
Free Download Modellbildung in der Informatik By Manfred Broy, Ralf Steinbrüggen (auth.)
2004 | 256 Pages | ISBN: 3642622674 | PDF | 7 MB

Modeling Spatial and Economic Impacts of Disasters
Free Download Modeling Spatial and Economic Impacts of Disasters By Yasuhide Okuyama, Stephanie E. Chang (auth.), Dr. Yasuhide Okuyama, Professor Stephanie E. Chang (eds.)
2004 | 324 Pages | ISBN: 3642059856 | PDF | 11 MB
This volume is dedicated to the memory of Barclay G. Jones, Professor of City and Regional Planning and Regional Science at Cornell University. Over a decade ago, Barclay took on a fledgling area of study - economic modeling of disasters - and nurtured its early development. He served as the social science program director at the National Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (NCEER), a university consortium sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Federal Emergency Management Agency of the United States. In this capacity, Barclay shepherded and attracted a number of regional scientists to the study of disasters. He organized a conference, held in the ill-fated World Trade Center in September 1995, on "The Economic Consequences of Earthquakes: Preparing for the Unexpected. " He persistently advocated the importance of social science research in an establishment dominated by less-than-sympathetic natural scientists and engineers. In 1993, Barclay organized the first of a series of sessions on "Measuring Regional Economic Effects of Unscheduled Events" at the North American Meetings of the Regional Science Association International (RSAI). This unusual nomenclature brought attention to the challenge that disasters -largely unanticipated, often sudden, and always disorderly - pose to the regional science modeling tradition. The sessions provided an annual forum for a growing coalition of researchers, where previously the literature had been fragmentary, scattered, and episodic. Since Barclay's unexpected passing in 1997, we have continued this effort in his tradition.
