Die einzelnen Stücke sind hier erstmals in chronologischer Folge angeordnet worden, so daß der mehrmaligen Neukonzeption dieses Textes, den Hegel selbst nicht fertiggestellt hat, Rechnung getragen wird. Der Band enthält ferner "Texte zur Habilitation Hegels". Es folgen "Fragmente aus Vorlesungsmanuskripten", die Hegel für seine beiden ersten Vorlesungen im Wintersemester 1801/02 in Jena angefertigt hat. Es schließt sich als Reinschriftentwurf das ebenfalls fragmentarisch überlieferte "System der Sittlichkeit" an, das auf den Winter 1802/03 zu datieren ist.
