Singing Utopia Voice in Musical Theatre
Free Download Singing Utopia: Voice in Musical Theatre by Ben Macpherson
English | November 25, 2024 | ISBN: 0197557643 | 288 pages | PDF | 8.94 Mb
Singing Utopia is a unique and ambitious work which asks us to listen differently to voice in musical theatre. Across fifteen case studies from Florodora to Hadestown, Ben Macpherson hears something utopian in the extraordinary, emotional, and situational directness of singing voices as they escape the confines of everyday life. Yet, as this book discovers, the very nature of utopia is paradoxical, fraught with undercurrents of nostalgia, melancholy, and the perpetual threat of the dystopian. Singing Utopia listens across these fault lines in our understanding of utopia and asks what it means for a musical to give voice to an imagined world which is always a contradiction in terms. Who gets to inhabit such a world? Who is excluded? How can we locate utopia in musical theatre voices, and what might be the consequences when its complexities are exposed?

Silicon Non–Volatile Memories Paths of Innovation
Free Download Barbara de Salvo, "Silicon Non-Volatile Memories: Paths of Innovation"
English | 2009 | pages: 248 | ISBN: 1848211058 | PDF | 6,8 mb
Semiconductor flash memory is an indispensable component of modern electronic systems which has gained a strategic position in recent decades due to the progressive shift from computing to consumer (and particularly mobile) products as revenue drivers for Integrated Circuits (IC) companies. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the different technological approaches currently being studied to fulfill future memory requirements. Two main research paths are identified and discussed. Different "evolutionary paths" based on the use of new materials (such as silicon nanocrystals for storage nodes and high-k insulators for active dielectrics) and of new transistor structures (such as multi-gate devices) are investigated in order to extend classical floating gate technology to the 32 nm node. "Disruptive paths" based on new storage mechanisms or new technologies (such as phase-change devices, polymer or molecular cross-bar memories) are also covered in order to address 22 nm and smaller IC generations. Finally, the main factors at the origin of these phenomena are identified and analyzed, providing pointers on future research activities and developments in this area.

Science–Based Therapy
Free Download Science-Based Therapy: Raising the Bar for Empirically Supported Treatments
English | 2024 | ISBN: 1316514560 | 433 Pages | PDF | 3 MB
This is the first book to analyze empirically supported treatments by using the newest criteria from the American Psychological Association's Society of Clinical Psychology, Division 12. Clinicians, scholars, and students all need to stay updated on the treatment research, and this book goes beyond providing updated treatment information by pointing readers to other useful treatment manuals and websites for continuing to stay up-to-date. The chapters, all written by prominent experts, highlight the best available evidence for specific disorders by breaking treatments down into credible components. With an emphasis on treatments for adults, chapters also share information about treatments for youth. Other variables that influence treatment are discussed, including assessment, comorbidity, demographics, and medication. Each chapter also corresponds with a chapter in the companion book, Pseudoscience in Therapy, presenting a full picture of the evidence base for common treatments.

Road User Charging and Electronic Toll Collection
Free Download Philip T. Blythe, "Road User Charging and Electronic Toll Collection"
English | 2006 | pages: 379 | ISBN: 1580538584 | PDF | 4,7 mb
As highways, crossing points, and urban streets become increasingly jammed with traffic, more and more roadway authorities are turning to electronic tolling and pricing to manage traffic and road usage. This authoritative book offers professionals expert guidance in planning, procuring, and operating electronic tolling and road-user charging systems. It cuts through a seemingly confusing array of technology solutions so analysts and engineers can match the right technology to policy. Moreover, the book clearly explains pricing and traffic management principles so planners can easily establish and change policies and pricing schemes. This practical volume focuses on established and emerging technologies used in charging, enforcement, and classifying vehicles, and it comprehensively covers privacy, legal, trade, and other regulatory issues. The book presents case studies from around the world that detail best practices for pricing, managing traffic demand, and developing local, regional, and cross-border pricing and tolling policies.

Right to Identity Proceedings of the Special Workshop Right to Identity held at the 27th World Congress of the International
Free Download Right to Identity: Proceedings of the Special Workshop "Right to Identity" held at the 27th World Congress of the International Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy in Washington DC, 2015 By Paul Tiedemann (editor)
2016 | 185 Pages | ISBN: 3515112448 | PDF | 1 MB
According to the case law of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, the catalogue of human rights as it is expressed in the American Convention of Human Rights, as well as in all the other international codifications of human rights, contains a serious gap. It does not provide a particular right for the protection of identity. Therefore, the Court demands the creation of an unwritten human right to identity by case law in addition to the written codices of human rights in international law. The philosophers, lawyers and political scientists joined in this book discuss this assumption under different aspects and from different cultural and legal backgrounds (Brazil, China, Germany, Japan, and Turkey). The book contains contributions that analyze the meaning(s) of the concept "identity" based on an individual approach as well as on the basis of a collective approach. It deals with certain aspects of identity in the context of certain fields of positive law, including criminal law and family law, and it questions the real need for a new right to identity.

For centuries, critics, poets, poet-scholars, and philosophers have either openly proclaimed or tacitly assumed the long poem as the highest expression of literary ambition and excellence. Rethinking the North American Long Poem focuses on the North American variant of this notorious form-notorious because of its often forbidding and difficult character, particularly with respect to the dialectics of content and form, aesthetics and politics, matter and genre.
